    • Shaq’s main skill later in his career was being enormous, and jack-hammering his ponderous mass into the key for an easy 2. He was relatively thin here and couldn’t do that. Barkley was a great player, but he wouldn’t have been able to guard, for instance, Olajuwon that way. He would have been completely cooked.

  • I watched this game as it happened. Charles outplayed and outthought Shaq and used headfakes and posting up inside to force Shaq to foul or lose position. Shaq pulled that backboard down and that was impressive but Charles took him out of the game early with those fouls. Also someone said Charles was 6 foot 6 inches and though some listings say he's that tall he was only 6'4 which made him going up against a 7'2 monster even more impressive. Shaq learned a lot during this game though and stopped committing and going airborne later on. He used his size and positioned better too later on. He gained some more muscle in the next couple of years and was quite accomplished by then. Having Kobe didn't hurt either.

There's a good video that talks about Barkley doing stuff like that but when I watched this game he did those head fakes and Shaq fell for it every time. Those two or three fouls called on them were in your words bs but Charles knew if he got Shaq airborne, he only needed to be under him and he'd get those calls. Kinda genius when you think about a guy who was legit 6'4" going head to head on both ends of the court with a 7'2" powerhouse.

  • I miss how they covered the NBA, great story lines, good sound bites in between, the anchors were great talking about the game and the players, the camera angles. It just seemed so perfect, good times, great teams and team play. And the most important part, the players play hard, respected each other and there wasn't any crazy insane hate towards each other, nothing like today. They weren't swinging at each other and they didn't dress like thugs or clowns, like they do today. Jordan the billionaire baller was ice cold in his suits. Today it just seems more about egos and stats, minus the Denver Nuggets.
