  • Apollonia is one of those woman what are just pure as they come, the old simplicity of courtship back then what a time it was. Beautiful film then and now

    • I think that was the point of her death in the story. He never ever forgave his enemies for her murder and when he returned to America he was determined to wreak revenge on those he suspected of killing the only woman other than his mother he ever truly loved. He only rekindled his relationship with his former girlfriend Kay in order for her to produce for him a son and heir to the family dynasty.

  • I love how she looks to her mother for approval to accept his gift. I dream of courting the women who will be my wife this way, in front of her whole family, her watching me and her father get to know each other, learning her culture and traditions, respectfully courting her ensuring her family she will be loved, respected and safe with me. I really enjoyed the music 🎶

    • It was beautiful, but not entirely innocent. She and Michael shared a very private, very intimate moment at 1:36. Surrounded by her family, yet completely connected to one another. It was a smile of promise. A knowing smile. A Mona Lisa smile.

    @brianleonellgomez8004@brianleonellgomez80043 жыл бұрын
    • Un amore puramente istintivo. Con Kay, c'era dialogo. Anche se poi le divergenze fanno esplodere il rapporto. Ma nell'ultima parte, comunque si ritrovano. Apollonia a New York? Avrebbe solo preparato ruoti e ruoti di parmigiane insieme alla suocera e sfornato figli. Kay sarebbe stata l'amante di Mikael, che non avrebbe certo rinunciato a lei.

It was a terrible accident. If he was killed as was intented by his enemies, she wouldbhave been left a very sad young widow.

  • The scene where Apollonia and Michael are walking together under the watchful eyes of the women in her family, she stumbles against Michael and you see some of the women smile and laugh. In the novel, the reason for their humor is that Apollonia was not only known for being graceful as a doe but had walked that path since she was a toddler. They knew full well it was no accident but a ploy to touch Michael, if only briefly and appreciated her cleverness, possibly reminding them of their own courtships. Interestingly, it’s Apollonia that controls the moment, she subtly expresses her physical attraction for Michael and a promise of much more, if he continues to be patient and respectful. Sadly such subtlety, respect and patience is beyond the comprehension of today’s society where instant gratification is demanded.

    @brianboisguilbert6985@brianboisguilbert69852 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, you are right, instant gratification is the order of the day. Too many intrusions from electronic media have blunted our sense of wonderment in the little things that give life breath.

  • I remember if it were yesterday when the movie first came out in 1972. One of the scenes that always cracked me up was @ 1:38 when they're eating at the table. The older Italian lady on the left hand side of the screen is obviously not an actress.But what makes it nice and realistic is, that she's just sitting there eating away knowing that she's being filmed and kind of laughs/smiles because she sees the big panavision camera and film crew etc. And she finds it a little funny and awkward not fully understanding 100%, what this whole filming was about though she may have had an idea after they explained it to her numerous of times so that it would make sense to her. I'm sure it was someone from the village.She fit the part perfectly because she was part of the village and that's what made it realistic. Please don't take this as if I'm being disrespectful it just always made me laugh because it was obvious that she knew that she was being filmed.

    • My take was they left is as is because it's almost as if she was smiling at the flirting between Appollonia and Michael. The smile was almost saying "I see you all and i remember that".

  • That type of courtship was established to maintain the honor of a mans daughter, to ensure the boyfriend was not going to sleep with her without marrying her. Now…. You cant even say “woman” and courtship would be seen as toxic masculinity. Pure & innocent Apollonia is rolling in her sad grave 🥺
