Man this gets me all the time. Snape was never a bad person, he was just broken. Alan Rickman potrayed his character beautifully. May his soul Rest in Peace.
What is a bad person? A good person? Snape should teach you, among many things, that "the line between good and evil is drawn down the center of every human heart". -aleksandyr solhenitzyn
lol what how was he not a bad person do you know what a death eater is????? he was a fully evil death eater before voldy killed lilly as he was completely ok letting voldy kill james and harry
For those people who always had problems with Snape because he was a bully to the students, had been a death eater and is viewed by some as more obsessed with Lily than in love with her, I think that the books are sprinkled with bits of information that give lots of clues into his character and understanding of some of the bad decisions he made. It is pretty apparent that Snape’s family life was very unhappy. His muggle father appeared to be abusive from the glimpses we get. And other muggle children in his community, like Petunia, treated him badly because his poverty resulted in his odd dress and appearance. When you combine this with the fact that he was an extremely smart, bookish boy who appeared to also be a loner, you can see why he would be a prime target for recruitment by a group like the Death Eaters. There are plenty of real life parallels to such things, taking away the magical element of course. At one point in the books Harry referred to himself, Snape and Voldemort as the Lost Boys who found a home at Hogwarts. When Dumbledore brought Snape onto the teaching staff at Hogwarts Snape was still very young. In fact, he was only a couple of years out of being a Hogwarts student himself. And we know that Snape had been bullied as a student at Hogwarts. Now he was in a position of authority. And it is highly unlikely that he had experienced much social development of his own in the meantime. For all these reasons, I think it is easy to see why Snape became a bully as a teacher. You would hope that people who are bullied would avoid doing the same thing to other people. But unfortunately, we know that people who are bullied often become the next set of bullies. This is not trying to excuse Snape’s behavior toward the students he was teaching. But it is a way to understand why he would behave this way. As far as whether Snape’s feelings for Lily fall into the category of love or obsession, I don’t think it really makes a big difference in the end. Either way he risked life and limb, and put himself into danger, over and over in order to fulfill the vow he made to Dumbledore to protect Lily’s son. Snape was in the end a very flawed man who was also a hero and one of the best literary characters I have ever had the pleasure to encounter in a story. He was my favorite character in the entire series from the moment we heard that wonderful monologue in Harry’s first potions class. And to Harry he was the bravest man he ever knew.
@@blackeyedlily @blackeyedlily Brilliantly said and what you have written is often overlooked. Snape being a good guy was the biggest cinematic plot twist since Vader told Luke he was his father. Never saw it coming..
well he did protect harry in other instances... but i get what you mean
I actually thought there was always something fishy about him killing Dumbledore. The way he had been built as a character, being very mysterious, having a name that seems evil from the start, and being someone that all the signs will say to hate, yet sprinkled with acts of kindness THAG leave us confused, such as the numerous times he saved Harry. Simply making him a bad guy would’ve wasted the potential of the character that ended up being born, and I had faith Rowling wouldn’t let that happen. Though I must admit, I never could have imagined such a drastic turn around, and one that involved his entire life. Easily my favorite character.
@@peterd1623 yeah i deeply agree with you. In the books he sometimes was honestly very annoying but still i always had complete faith in Dumbledore so when he killed Dumbledore it was very fishy that how he could've possibly dicieve some one like him. I admire Rowlling for such a creativity.

Today, after rewatching it all over again, I'm an absolute fan, I give this franchise a standing ovation as one of the most genius masterpieces ever made! @@user-jo3go8fe3g It's a movie... What did you expect? Not based on true events, you know.
@@jcdenton6577 You're right, it's not based on true events, it's actually based on a book series where Snape is infinitely more cruel and unpleasant than he's ever depicted in the films. Snape was a complex character, he was brave and he was clever, but he was by no means a "good guy". Snape was perfectly happy to serve the dark side until Lily, a childhood crush, was in danger. He then proceeded to terrorise her son, as well as the rest of the non-Slytherin students for years and years. Snape lavished at the idea of Sirius receiving the dementor's kiss. And even during this memeory sequence in the books, he scavenges through Sirius (now Harry's) house to find a letter and photo from Lily, including a photo of Lily, James, and Harry, and he tears off the part with Lily and the end of the letter where she states her love, and leaves the house in a mess. Snape is a creep; he was _obsessed_ with Lily. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks Snapes love, while genuine, is in anyway healthy.

Seen worst but I still love this scene :, (
Nah. The most emotional. Not question about it. Well, except maybe when Sirius dies.
That face he makes before casting the patronus and after it flees... work of a true artist
and pretty much every single scene that man has been in tbh, but this scene alone proves why his performance is the best of these movies... (although Gary Oldman was pretty awesome too)
His expression..his eyes..the love for Lily. I am very glad Alan Rickman portray Snape. Rest in peace the great Alan Rickman.
Mind explaining this scene? What is happening here? With the patronus fleeing and dumbledore asking "after all this time?". I forgot
Daniel M I can explain a few of these, the scene is dumbledore and snape talking about how Harry has a horcruz (can’t remember how to spell it ) inside his scar so he must die too . The doe is Lilly potter just like Harry’s patronus was a stag like his father . As for the last question I’m unsure too .
@@smellyfeet11 Lily's patronus is a doe, and Snape's patronus also was a doe because he truly lived Lily so much. And it hasn't changed. So when Dumbledore asks, "After all this time?" He means "you still love Lily, after all this time?" At the making of that memory, it had been a couple of years since Lily had died and many more since she and James had married. But Snape never let go. And that is why Dumbledore is surprised, at love's potential and at the best side of Snape, the unwavering love and selflessness. And Snape loved her to his last breath, answering "Always."
100% did not expect to cry at a harry potter movie, but this part destroyed me.
This scene makes me cry, which I rarely do in movies/shows. The music and the *acting* when Alan Rickman sees Lily’s body, and he falls to the floor. You can _see_ the agony and despair on his face, the love that he had for her. And when he clutches her dead body… I get so emotional.
Snape went from being a treacherous monster to being a misunderstood angel in less than a minute 😭😭 THAT it art

Imagine how Harry felt after seing those memories... The man he hated actually protected him Edit: omg didn't expect all these likes
Or even before that when dying Snape tells him, he has his mother's eyes.. I think this is the real moment he understands that Snape never was an enemy. The look on Harrys face always hits me hard, well acted!

I disagree. The biggest hero to me is the Weasleys, Regulus Black and Harry himself. Snape's not even in the top 5. He bullied children just for fun.

I can say no words different than "this is one of the best, if not the best cinematic masterpieces of all time".
When everyone clapped I just burst into tears Unbelievable!! The expression on his face while saying always is unbelievable
For me, there are two times when Snape's face is the most absolutely beautiful. That is right before he cast his patronus, when Dumbledore asked if he's grown to care for the boy, and the other is right before his death, when he realizes Voldemort is going to kill him, he lifts his chin slightly, and looks him in the eyes. Severus Snape lived and died with a pure, unconditional love....and ONLY dear, sweet Alan could have pulled this off so beautiful. RIP precious Alan and Severus. And yes, his expression when he says ALWAYS, is breathtaking too
the clapping completely ruined the entire scene. so cringe
@Tyler Ikr I would be so annoyed if I went to the cinema just for cheering and clapping. Luckily that doesn't happen in my country, its more of an American thing
Fuck me you are cringe
Best chapter and one of the best scenes
Nah the one where Snape finds the marauders map and they all insult him was funny as fuck.

Calm Yourself one of the best twists in history
Prince’s Tale❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s probably the worst chapter. Great finale, don’t get me wrong, I loved it. The Severus twist is fantastic. But everything that comes before the battle of hogwarts is like mission impossible achieved by three clueless teenagers. The writer just pushed too much on the accelerator

Literally Snape is the most important character in hp, he not only saved harry, he created Lili's protection that destroyed voldemord just by saying "spare Lily", he was the maker! No wonder why Dumbledore was always protective with Severus
I'm not crying. You're crying 😢
You're right :'(
We all are crying

yes i am
I AM😭😭😭
am i the only one who never hates Snape?
Abigail Tay I only started properly watching the movies this year when they came on ITV as they do every September, and I could never find myself hating him, no matter what he did or what he had appeared to have done (cough cough philosophers stone). been my favourite character from the very beginning
i’ve always loved him. there’s something so real about his character that i enjoy so much
nah I didnt, I kind of have the same traits as him
There were moments where you did hate him but then moments where you empathized with him, it was never easy for Snape to do all this stuff for Dumbledore yet he chose to do it anyway and my guess is he did it mainly for Lily because he loved her that much
Never hated him, I always thought he was severe but rightful, I had many teachers like him.. and every time they will be the ones will teach you the most in unique way
Now both of you are memories. Rest in peace, Alan and Michael. Thank you for my magic childhood ❤
He is the bravest nan ever He knew he couldn’t defeat Voldemort so he decided to devote his life to the son of the woman he loved and the very woman who never loved him back 😭😭
The hardest part about this scene is that we learn what Snape really means when he says Harry has his mother’s eyes. It’s not how they look, it’s how they see others. Harry and his mother both saw the good in people and would never hurt a fly intentionally, they’re both incredibly kind people and see others as if there is always good inside of them, they don’t judge, they don’t hate, they’re genuine loving eyes that want the best for those around them. It’s a heartbreaking moment to see, especially Snape and Lily as kids and how tragic that story was…
Damn I never thought of it like that till now- its even more heartbreaking 😭 I love it. This actually makes a lot more sense.
Well not entirely true for Harry you know, i mean he casted a Cruciatus curse on Amycus Carrow (Against a death eater of course but he still count as a "fly") and you really need to have the intention for that to work ...
Yepp
Wrong take, that's not what he meant to say. What part made Severus think that Harry sees the good in people like his mother?
@@diegokucharsky7165 I mean, how do you tell Harry that the recently discovered Sectusempra almost finished Draco forever?
When Snape says always, it always leaves me in tears because that just shows how much love Snape had for Lily. It’s probably one of the most wonderful scenes ever when we get to find out what type of person Snape truly is
To add to this, the reason Snape is my favourite person in Harry Potter is because of how intelligent he is. Throughout the entire series, he is the one man who was on both the dark and light side, while hiding his true commitment to the light the entire time. It was Snape who gained the trust of one of the most evil & powerful wizards of all time, and even then Dumbledore still dies even with Snape's help, the fact that Snape had to maintain through 19 years this level of composure makes him soooo badass to me. Not to mention he looks like Owen Wilson and Keanu Reeves combined 😂
@@cruzjacknife8699 snape was a death eater for a time, and definitely killed many innocent people. He was dark for a number of years.
