I have been neglecting my Ecodiesel jeep wrangler and today I am catching up on some well-needed maintenance such as changing the fuel filter, air filter, oil change, and cabin filters.

Buddy , when you are home changing the air filter you should vacuum out the air box and wipe dust out , it will greatly increase the longevity of the filter👍
Aaahhhh “dry” rain
Best oil to use in the Eco diesel is AMSOIL Euro 5w/40. It keeps sludge build out of the motor, doesn’t burn off like other oil which causes premature DPF burn offs and is much easier on the whole system
Best video yet Casey! Thanks!
Needed this video, as I try to do most of the work myself. ✨✨✨
I’m almost done with my road trip to the Arctic Ocean from San Diego with my Gladiator Ecodiesel. I changed all my filters before the trip. I used Doc’s Diesel air filter. All good. I also put on a Trail Head Off-road pre filter that filters out any large dirt or bugs before they get to the air filter.
Glad to see your keeping the ecodiesel. Now for the deleting 😊
I have a 2021 JLUR diesel that I have the AEV snorkel with the pre filter. Have not had any codes. It works great for the dust. Plus the peace of mind when crossing water.
K and N Filters makes an engine air filter and cabin air filter for the Ecodiesel. I use them both in my JT.
Thanks for the information Casey. I had the Jeep Wave maintenance that came with my EcoDiesel Wrangler when I bought it new. I purchased an additional 4 oil changes in a maintenance package from MoPar and I am on the last "free" one now. I don't believe I will be able to buy another maintenance package. I don't want to pay over $250 for an oil change either. It looks easy enough but messy to change the oil and filter myself. I have a spare 5 gallon bucket and it looks like it will fit under my lifted Wrangler. Changing the fuel filter is even messier but like you show us, it is easy to do and much cheaper than going to the dealer.
I’ve got 37’s on my gladiator and it starts terribly. It’s really tough in anything technical offroad. Good call on the wrangler, The gladiator is huge and tough to wheel.
Thanks for the great video and content. Big fan. Just changed my fuel filter with your instructions. Was super easy. Mine was as dirty as yours at 26k miles. Used a 1 1/8 six pt socket. Worked really well. Thx again.
Great to hear!
I use a large cardboard box (Like one for a flat screen TV) as a working surface when I change my oil ect. Any small spills can be caught on it. It also gives a small amount of padding to work on. When it gets dirty just properly throw it away.
The snorkel with the cyclone sounds like a good idea
I just cleaned my radiator. Needed it. I’m going to keep a better eye on it.
I’d be real careful on any non MOPAR filters. Our dodge Cummins was changed with a different brand oil filter and the engine rod went out. Keep an eye on it.
Awesome video
I said "too much" a while back on the Demonator. #1 fuel cost We will stay tined to hear of more in the future. Dont get me wrong. The FUN....... 💯
What micron is the new diesel fuel filter. Did you check the owners manual to get the right spec? Just curious 😊
The biggest thing that helped my Ecodiesel from overheating is hood scoops from S&B. I can’t get my temp to go above 250 even if I try. I drove it up a mountain in 100° weather with the AC on full blast and my oil temp got to 245 max.
I installed those on my Ecodiesel JT for when I go down to the desert from Alaska. Only problem I can’t keep small import cars from bashing into me and keeping my JT in the body shop.
Thanks that's a great tip. I haven't had the issue but I've been a bit concerned because I will be towing my sled trailer (7×14) in the winter. And a smaller travel trailer in the summers
Any issues with the MC skids? They are at a decent price point relative to some of the other options available.
Back into the day with the 7.3L Fords, we had to change the air filters twice to an oil change. Reason? Diesels are not choked with a throttle plate like a gas so they move a ton of air through the engine. And Fords if that era pulled air from the wheel well. Brilliant, those engineers. 😡😡🤬
Had the fuel pump go out on my diesel gladiator. No updated parts yet but I was only down 3 days and 2 of those were because I didn’t have an appointment probably.
Awfully convenient you posted this. I just put in a last minute order for a JT diesel. While I’m definitely no stranger to working on vehicles. It is nice to see what all the “basics” are like with the eco diesel.
Engine oil should be warm before oil change. Doc's Diesel engine oil filter is rated for 1/2 the mile life as the OEM.
Good tips. I miss the white Rubicon , will you be doing sum videos with it again?
Yep
What diff skid plate is that?
I can't recommend the cyclone on top of the AEV enough. I went a year, if not more on one air filter going through Central and Eastern Oregon trails and it was still good for using longer. Cabin filter however...not so much lol
Nice!
"No Touch" tire shine works Great to clean your engine bay, just spray it on and walk away! You can wipe it down if you want to make it even better, but you don't have to...
Casey, how long did the engine have to crank before it started up after changing the fuel filter and priming the engine?
it was longer then normal but fired up pretty quick after a priming.
Did you put oil on the o-ring on the oil filter cap before installing it?
Ya always
Where do I find the fuel filter?
super clean 3/1 ratio, spray entire engine down, don't use a hose, always a pressure washer (uses less water) . Spray the entire bay down with super clean, wait a minute or so and pressure wash. no special brushes needed, superclean will literally melt the dirt away. Spray well with water then use a ph neutral soap to denature the acid from the superclean. I use a foam cannon. My engine bays always look brand new
I don’t think a pressure washer has any business being used around an engine bay personally. Engines can be cleaned with normal hose pressure just fine.
Hey Case, what’s the story on the red jeep in your garage? Always see it just chillin in there.
Don't mind if I answer... it's his old jeep he wheeled before he got the ecodiesel and it has some problems. He's planning to fix it and sell it long term.
Sorta. It's paid for and owes me nothing so I like have iit to wrench on and it's great for the island. I wanna shoot some local winter wheeling day trips in it this year.
@@Casey250 ah I see, cool. Thanks, I was curious.
How many Jeeps do you own? Only asking because I’m jealous
3?
Injoy
Hey Casey! Love the channel. I have a question. I'm about to buy a Rubicon Gladiator. I'm torn between the diesel and the gas. I have a 6.7 F350 diesel that had the catastrophic fuel pump. It cost $10,000 to replace pumps, injectors, lines, filters, etc. Is the diesel gladiator reliable, or is it something to stay away from? I see a lot of bad posts on forums about the diesel. What are your thoughts?
I have 2022 JLU diesel, I love it. I just turned 40K miles. I did bump the fuel filter "protective house" and it broke the fuel filter. I will be looking to get an underbelly skid plate. I have had no issues with the diesel, its still stock and i'm pushing 26 mpg. I know there is a recall for the fuel system and i was told there should be a fix soon, not sure is the 2024 have that issue.
I love the power and fuel economy of the diesels. I just don't want it to be in the shop for a month or more, waiting for parts like my powerstroke.
I have a 2021 JLU Sport EcoDiesel. It now has 46,000 miles on it. I have had one Derating episode when I was driving in the mountains at 105°. All it took was for me to pull over. Turn off the engine and start up again. Annoying but I still love the diesel engine. It has really good acceleration and doesn't slow down on hills (except when derating). Maybe I should have cleaned out my radiator like Casey did. I have cleaned thousands of bugs off the windshield and grill so there must be some on the radiator fins. I do worry about parts availability since the EcoDiesel has been discontinued by Jeep and by Ram. If I had it to do all over again, I might go with the 4XE instead of the diesel. It looks like diesel and gas engines are on the wrong side of the government mandates. Still, I think I will wait for better battery technology before I trade my diesel in.
That sure was a nasty air filter!! Lol
The air filter being dirty will clog up your EGR/CAT on diesels (among other things). Keep that clean.
VERY important!
Snorkel on a gas engine. Air filter is clean, no codes. It actually gets more air,it’s colder, it’s cleaner. All 3 things are better for the engine.
CFBR
Wait til you find out how much diesel fuel costs in California. 😢 I'm an hour from the Rubicon and diesel is the same price as premium here.
Yaaaa just got here. Holy moly. Almost $1 more a gallon
@Casey250 all the locals are complaining about it on the local social groups again. Lol enjoy the Rubicon, temperature should be real nice in the day if the rain stays away.
Casey no more eco diesels. I know you have had challenges they are blowing them out. Would you consider a new one?
1000% I would.
@@Casey250 thanks Casey. I agree. They are discounting Gladiators big time.
Fumoto Valve.
Make your life easier. Get an EZ oil drain plug or a fumoto drain plug.
How many miles are on this "much needed maintenance" vehicle ??
I don’t think Kasey does maintenance as often as he should. Everything we looked at should’ve been done long time ago.
Get a catch can on this baby. Make your Jeep last longer
From what I understand, absolutely. There are some things that absolutely scare me about the eco-diesel that are not mentioned. Some thing to do with the EGR also! I’m having a real hard time finding videos and information on high mileage eco-diesel’s. Is that because they explode before they hit high mileage? There must be certain things that can be done such as what you said.
Nothings going on why ask ?
Holy fuck, that air filter was FILTHY
The air filter looks like it had a shiny plastic wrap over it when you installed it Wierd looking
Only an idiot doesn't get an engine warm before an oil change, what the hell is that? Also should be changing that fuel filter alot more. Look out for the CP4 HPFP Recall in the ecodiesel.
