  • the previous Malibu was a good looking car I saw this one in person I was like wow it looks great

  • let's be fair...this is not the first recent Malibu that people actually want to buy. the 08-12 car was fantastic and showed that GM was serious about engineering again and not just making money.

    • +jon368100 Except that it was really plasticky inside and had some issues like visibility and a small trunk opening. It also wasn't the most reliable car out there.

      @MaestroTJS@MaestroTJS8 жыл бұрын
    • +jon368100 That is fair. The '08 Malibu was a really good car for its time, people forget what the competition was like the same year. The 2013 model was a retrograde step.

      @Drive571@Drive5718 жыл бұрын
    • Drive571 I know exactly what the competition was like, and cars like the Accord, Altima, and Camry had nicer interiors. The Camry's was also relatively crappy but still a notch above the Malibu's. (Now if you want to compare the Fusion and the Sebring, well....) An all-hard-plastic door panel even in top trim levels is a serious let-down. But what I did forget to mention and which is true is that the car did DRIVE beautifully--I'd argue it drove better and more quietly than the cars I've mentioned above, except that it was underpowered. It also had a couple of stupid problems which they never bothered addressing during its run (the intermediate steering shaft and the door lock actuators), not to mention the most ridiculous headlight bulb change of any car I am aware of.

    • +Maestro_T I love the 2011 Malibu LT I bought my mother and I think it rides better than the brand new 2015 Camry SE I recently took on a road trip. The Malibu does feel under powered but I could live with it. It's also so much more quiet than the new Camry at freeway speeds. As for the headlights I had a lunatic rant on Chevrolets FB page. Had to change the headlights while on work in Phoenix, sitting in a parking lot at 10pm at night whe it was 108 degrees out trying to take the bumper off the car to change the headlights... I was so pissed!

      @DJR5280@DJR52808 жыл бұрын
    • DJR5280 No idea how you changed them at all. I've seen a video and also a web site that showed it step-by-step. I'm a bit handy with small repairs but I think I would throw my hands up at that one. I have a car (Mazda 3) which goes through headlamps constantly so I guess it terrifies me to buy a car where I'd have the prospect of having to pay $200 (or whatever) each time the bulbs go out. I'm surprised at the new Camry being loud on the highway. My uncle owns a 2007 Camry, I'm not really very fond of it though he has had very little go wrong with it. How has your mother's Malibu held up?

  • I looked at the 2015 Malibu before purchasing a Camry XSE (2015) 4 cylinder. I didn't take it out for a test drive as I just didn't like the interior all that much and as an aging model I wasn't given a fantastic discount when I asked about pricing. Looked @ the Accord but to get leather navigation and pushbutton start it was about $2,000 more than the Camry (albeit it seemed like a slightly better car). I hope this car gets a warm welcome and good reviews. I think to get anywhere it needs to be a bit better and slightly cheaper than its Japanese competitors.

  • I've rented the new Malibu and it is very nice. I found though that the Malibu LT, fills more solid than the Malibu LS. It looks good on the outside, it is very quiet, it handles better than an Accord or Optima. Only issue is the stop/start technology. It will drive you crazy when you are sitting at a light. So I had to learn to creep towards stoplights, so it wouldn't shut down. Also, when it does shut down on a hot day, you immediately feel the air conditioner, losing its cool. The 2.0T version feels a heck of a lot better than the 1.6T version

    • +elton john GM seemed to be on the right track with the Impala but didn't get it quite right here. The fact of the matter is that they can't just produce something that's "as good" as the competition to increase their sales and their brand image. They have to make something better. This is what Toyota and Honda did back in the day and it's what GM/Ford/Chrysler need to do now. Can it be said they have caught up? That may be debatable. But they need to surpass.

Although Chevy has gone a long way, and it is better built than previous Chevy's I have driven, my 10 year old Camry with over 100K is still way better from a driving and quality perspective. • Mirz_786 The 2015 and 2016 are very very different both in and out. I've driven a 2015 for a week and just rented a 2015 Camry SE when I drove from Denver to Phoenix a few weeks ago. The Camry was not as solid or refined as the Malibu. The Camry powertrain was more noisy and had a whine sound to it like a CVT. The Malibu was more quiet at highway speeds as well. All in all the Malibu is a better car except for the stop start feature which I hate. I would still take the Camry as the current bodystyle looks more modern than the Malibu and the interior is more modern than the Malibu.

The car can hit 0 to 60 in 5.3 seconds and turn the quarter mile at 14.3 at almost 100 mph with a top speed drag limited at 153 mph. The only one at the dealership was a 2LT stickered at $29,000.The interior was so cheap with its hard plasic everywhere and awful cloth seats, there is no way it will attain large volume any way but fleet sales. • +Steve W You must be going to the scammiest car dealership on the planet, then, because every 2016 Malibu 2LT I've seen (avg. cost between $26,750 and $28,500 here) has the leatherette seating and fairly decent interior material quality. I don't get into my Chevy Malibu expecting Audi materials, and you shouldn't either, at any rate. It's a family sedan, and it does what it needs to do even better than the previous generation did, which did its job better than the generation before that. My point? Each generation improves on the strengths AND weaknesses of the past generation.

  • I just bought one of these, and it is likely the last GM car I am ever going to buy built after 1993. they're engineers and designers getting more and more retarded every year, and I'm convinced they are getting them out of drug rehab these days, because you have to be smoking crack with some of the thought processes evident here. I would give the car about a 4.5 out of 5, but there are a number of small things about this car that were not thought out that drive me absolutely insane.

Isn't that ironic to say the least?

  • Don't ever buy GM. Various mechanical pieces are likely to break when you hit around 40000 miles. And that is the point beyond the bumper to bumper warranty. Terrible resale value. Research on the interenet. Also if you are in the market for a new car, don't watch reviews like these on youtube. They just review what can be seen with the eyes like the quality of the plastic in the interior. Most of the things in a car that matter in a car like mechanical reliability and trustworthiness of a brand cannot be seen with eyes and are not touched on by these poor youtube reviewers. Go to sites like consumeraffairs or car complaints to assess the long term reliability of a car. Watch youtube reviews only to pass the time. Don't make a decision based on these. You're going to regret it.

  • More pleasant than a Honda Accord? How much did Europeans pay you to make that reference? Consumer Reports = European favoritism in America.

    @Fussinated@Fussinated8 жыл бұрын
    • What are you talking about? Neither the Honda Accord or Chevy Malibu are European cars.

      @RiffRock51@RiffRock517 жыл бұрын
    • John Noonan "What are you talking about?" Promoting European cars. "Neither the Honda Accord or Chevy Malibu are European cars" Exactly! However Honda Accord is the best seller behind Toyota Camry and better car than any European junk. Now, observe; Chevy Malibu is presented as "An American car with European feel" just like many other American cars that is considered lesser brands to European cars. If this Malibu is more pleasant than a Honda Accord, then Honda Accord is even lesser to European junk or a even lesser than a "wanna be European" car. In fact this Malibu and Honda Accord are both better cars than European cars. However you will never hear a comment as that "Malibu is a more pleasant car than a VW Jetta" Even though VW screwed Americans real good. By the way, beyond the European issue Malibu is not more pleasant than a Honda Accord anyway. For someone who is claiming such a thing there should be an ulterior motive.

Just sit back and relax and consider me as someone who speaks absurd things. “He simply compared the Malibu to the Accord.” Yes, and I wasted my time complete trying to explain what I said an why, because you obviously know better.

      @Fussinated@Fussinated7 жыл бұрын
    • Fussinated You might be reading too deeply into the review. I think your original claim was that CR gets paid off by European car manufacturers to promote their cars. I don't understand that statement. Look at CR's ratings for midsized sedans; the VW Passat models rank low: 12th and 16th on that list out of 20. Ranks 1-11 are from Asian or American manufacturers. And CR has published reports detailing the VW emissions cheating scandal. I don't understand your claim that CR is secretly promoting European cars like Volkswagen. CR ripped on the disappointing Mercedes CLA. The VW Golf scores CR's lowest possible rating in reliability.

  • I would not spend $28,000 or $35,000 hours for a Chevrolet Malibu! The car will be worth around $10,000 who's in the next 4 years as opposed to a similarly priced Camry which would still be worth at least 15 or 16. The Camry or the Accord will most likely last a lot longer as well since GM can't seem to build a car with a decent fit and finish or a car interior that can hold up over the years.. my friend has a 2013 Malibu with less than 50k miles on it and the interior squeaks and rattles more than my 18 year old Camry with almost 400k does.

  • Malibus from 2008 to 2012 were the cars with more recalls in american history, terrible terrible cars quality from GM. They touched bottom and from that experience GM has tried hard to improve but not hard enough. The decent Malibu (2.0, leather, etc.) price competes with Toyota Camry which is wayyyy much better in every sense. The small Malibu, 1.5 engine, I mean you don't do much with that engine, even the Ford Fusion Hybrid has more hp (188) than this small Malibu (160).....not a convincing car at all.
