    • For one part, I do think it’s because Shaq wanted to see Dwight reach potential he could have. I remember there’s a segment on inside the nba where Shaq and Chuck wanted to explain how to post up properly and mentioning Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard. Then there’s the obvious offense Shaq took when Dwight took on that Superman name

  • Shaq’s personality is one that is kind of sensitive and territorial. I think he felt like Dwight Howard at one time was a threat to his legacy (even though he never was), especially when the whole Superman thing came about. Not only that, he became a Laker also.

He was always a talented athletic big man; but man his post work was always horrific; and shaq is always bothered by big men who ain't on the block eatin' bbq chicken.

People disliked Rodman but any of his competitors would’ve taken him as a team mate in a millisecond. The diff. is hard work and commitment on the court. He also ruined his situation with Stan, then continued to rub people the wrong way at every stop after (LA, Hou, ATL, Wash, and even LA again). I grew up around Dwight & although & as great as he was, he never filled those shoes. We were all waiting for Dwight's offensive game to take the next step, but it never did.   • The simple truth is Shaq is super insecure and hyper-sensitive. I always wondered why there was beef and it seemed like it was all coming from Shaq’s side - i’ve been following this beef for years. This is the only conclusion I could come to. If you’re confident and as strong as you say you are, Shaq should never have been so threatened by Dwight - yet he was and it came out as him making fun of him and calling him out pretty non-stop there for a while. Insecurity is at the heart of a lot of beefs.

  • I think Shaq's issue with Dwight is multi-faceted. Part of Shaq's dislike was the main reason why Kobe disliked Dwight. They both saw worlds of potential in Dwight and he failed to live up to those expectations. And yes, Dwight taking on the Superman moniker was another reason.

    • It’s far deeper than that. Whether or not he became a top 10 caliber center doesn’t take away from what he actually was able to accomplish. Shaq acknowledges other great centers that weren’t on his level but when it comes to Dwight specifically, he REFUSES to acknowledge Dwight’s accomplishments and hof status. It’s ridiculous and petty. Give that man the flowers he deserves as one of the great talents of the game.

    • It wasn't just the nickname. There were very obvious comparisons to Shaq. Both were #1 overall picks drafted to Magic. Dwights played twice the amount of time in ORL & dominated in his own way, but as great as Dwight was in his prime, he failed to live up to the expectations he placed on himself. I'm not a fan of what the narrative became, but Dwight played into it the moment he embraced the Superman persona.

He was the most dominant physical force in the league for years along with being one of the top players. He was the best defender in the league. That new arena they built was on his back. The nickname was the biggest part of Shaq's problem with him. He still doesn't like when Kenny calls Dwight Superman. He's a big baby at times. Dwight never disrespected him in any way while he was in Orlando. Shaq went after him for no reason on a regular basis.

  • No one hates dwight he was just supposed to be so much more. Still love him and he deserves to be an all time great. His peak was amazing just way to short lived. And that peak we saw him reach was not his peak his ceiling didn't exist then all of a sudden he regressed way before it was time. I don't believe he'll ever be great again but definitely always one of my favorite players and a great human. That's something we forget to talk about. The ballers are still humans and his character is one of the best

  • People just didn't understand with Dwight, to be a great center you don't have to be a 25-30 per game scorer , being 20 points per game and the best defender in the league is pretty great. Obviously not Shaq, Kareem, Moses ,Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing great, but still a best player on a title team level player if they could've ever gotten him an elite guard in his prime before the injuries.
