  • Time for my nerd emoji moment… That wasn’t the oldest operating steel coaster in the beginning, although there aren’t concrete details, that title either belongs to Montaña Suiza at Parque de Atracciones Monte Igueldo (Spain 1928) or Rodelbaan at De Waarbeek (Netherlands 1930). I believe Rodelbaan is the first entirely steel track though while Montaña Suiza only partly uses steel Also if you want more jank wooden coasters, ride Leap The Dips at Lakemont Park Pennsylvania. It opened in 1902. Yes… really, it’s the oldest surviving coaster, though it went through a large refurbishment in the 90’s to restore it to its original state. Ride operators have to push cars by hand to start them and pull levers for brakes. There’s also The Great Scenic Railway in Luna Park, Melbourne, Australia. It has operated continuously since 1912. It’s one of the last of its kind that requires a “brakeman” to stand in the very back of the train to activate the brakes and control the train speed by hand! 🤓🤓🤓 nerd moment over

    @xguitarist_@xguitarist_5 ай бұрын
    • Thanks for that nerd moment, and I will continue. Only 2(canyon blaster, and that kiddie coaster) can be considered coasters. Alpine coasters are a highly debated topic if they count or not, and the other ones are flat rides

      @theace7002@theace70025 ай бұрын
    • @@theace7002 My two cents, if bobsled coasters count, then alpine coasters should too. Flat rides are different rides and don’t count. There really isn’t a right or wrong approach though since there’s so many edge cases and exceptions since it’s really more of a “rule of thumb” kinda thing

      @crit8179@crit81795 ай бұрын
    • @@crit8179 Sorry for the wall of text but I love nerding out on coasters Tubular steel is different from just any steel. Matterhorn (Disneyland) is generally agreed to be the oldest operating tubular steel coaster, but it is known that there was a coaster called R2000 at fairs that predates the Matterhorn. Its history seems to have little documentation except that it was manufactured and operated in 1956 and sporadically operated in different fairs until around 2007, then just disappeared. Matterhorn wouldn’t open until 1959. The rabbit hole apparently goes deeper as there is a blog where someone tracked down the parents that pointed to R2000, photos and videos of the couple of installations of similar rides, and even one ride with tubular steel track in 1947. Nobody seems to know anything about this 1947 ride except for one photo that shows it ever existed. It’s thought that the patents to R2000 that reference “improving” a design mean that there was an earlier ride, likely this one, but we can’t be sure

It also isn’t the oldest steel coaster, Montaña Suiza in Spain is made of steel and was built in 1928. There are multiple other examples of older steel coasters. • So much misinformation and half truths.... 1) Rarest roller coaster in the world, not oldest steel coaster still operating (Montaña Suiza). Gravity Roller Coaster at Schnepf Farms runs infrequently (during festival, because they only run it when it is profitable to do so. 2) Kamikaze = Not a Roller Coaster 3) Alpine Mountain Coaster, has only been operating since 2011, was not open when Action Park existed, and nobody died on it, defiantly not 6... 6 people did die at action park 3 from drowning, 1 from an electrocution in a pond none on Alpine Roller Coaster (Which did not exist during Action Parks operation) 4) Canyon Blaster in Vegas, is a coaster... good for you, but it is not dangerous. In fact is is simply a small Arrow Custom Looper model. Thee models have been thrilling millions of riders since the 70's and there is still approx 30 variations of this model still in operation. I just want to clear that up before you harm potential business for these people trying to make a living. FYI some of these companies you cover are not hugely profitable, and they don't deserve to be smeared, harming their business with misinformation for a few clicks.

The last one is also a flat ride, yet I see the confusion. In conclusion roller coasters are completely safe and a 6 in over 1.2 billion riders per year (RCDB) is not that much

  • ngl thunderhawk at dorney is way more impressive then the steel coaster at the start because it is one of the oldest standing wooden coasters today.

    • There are older ones like wild one. But you said one of them so that's ok. Also, I've been on thunder hawk and mind eraser in 2021, guess which one is closer to me?

  • 0:00 roller coasters are not dangerous 0:05 no it isn’t 0:25 I feel bad for that guy😭 0:33 that’s actually a sick launch 0:55 the coaster he’s listed is a E&F Miler that opened in 2007… I hate to break it to you but it is not the oldest steel roller coaster in the world (& also if your curious the oldest steel coaster currently operating is Little Dipper at Conneaut Lake Park, it opened in 1950) 1:18 they do, their in a small park ready to have fun on a safe ride 1:31 the real reason why it’s only open for 5 days a year is because they reserve it for a festivals they have once a year 1:48 because it’s a profitable market 1:54 me 2:41 not a roller coaster 2:48 that was in a different fair that was in a third world country, safety laws are much less regulated then they are in places like America & Japan 2:58 yes 3:05 this report was from 1996, safety was much less regulated then 3:08 no 3:24 I don’t think an E&F miler kiddie coaster is gonna pull 4gs of force lmfao 3:31 yes it is 3:33 please stop calling this flat ride a roller coaster 3:45 fair enough, your right, it can happen, but there is a 1 in 750,000,000 chance of dying on a ride, you have a higher chance of dying by falling in your bath tub 4:17 I promise you it’s not 5:00 action park closed decades ago, a few years later it reopened, removed all the unsafe water rides & replaced them with safe water rides, & renamed it to Mountain creek, trust me it is very different from Action Park 5:10 no one 5:12 no I don’t think so 5:15 it’s not even close the most iconic ride in that area 5:35 pfffffff 6:03 yes it is 6:08 because it’s a resort & they wanted to make money well removing the action park name 6:11 yes 6:25 mountain coasters are honestly super underrated, I rode one in Park City, Utah & it was chaotic, they don’t get enough love 6:29 there’s upstop wheels for a reason 6:33 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA 6:47 lmao 7:18 there’s a reason why Las Vegas has the lowest rated coasters in the world (cough cough Desperado cough cough Big Apple cough cough rip Speed the ride) 7:23 as a coaster thoosie, I could only dream 7:35 because it’s a horrible hotel 7:49 Canyon Blaster is very well regarded as one of the best Arrows in the US 8:03 room inspections & coaster inspections are not the same at all 8:10 yeah because it’s overpriced & doesn’t have a lot there 8:11 alright that was genuinely a terrible accident I’ll give you that one 8:40 yeah he’s right 8:46 no, those are supports, they were very intentionally welded that way to keep the coaster up 8:52 they probably got paid tens of thousands of dollars a year for that 9:01 me when I operate Goliath at Magic Mountain lmfao 9:06 shocker 9:26 there aren’t any coasters up there ever since high roller closed 9:32 yeah 9:33 oh yeah it’s defiantly unsafe fs fs 9:41 oh look at that! It’s a ride, that not only is perfectly safe, but has had a total of 0 accidents ever 9:48 alright admittedly that ride is genuinely terrifying, I’ve ridden it before & even as a seasoned coaster enthusiast who’s ridden tons of coasters & are not scared of them anymore, holy crap this ride is actually terrifying 10:24 that’s actually awesome, I wish I could do that 10:26 nice! 10:32 as a coaster enthusiast, I can sum it up in 3 words. Coasters are fun. 10:39 “for those of you who are unfamiliar, a block zone is a section of ride that only one train my occupy. At the end of a block zone is a method to stop the train in case the block zone is still occupied. This is the safety system that prevents roller coaster trains with colliding with one another. 11:05 yes that was pretty goofy.

  • Technically kamikaze is a flat ride and not a roller coaster. The reason carnival rides are more dangerous than a permanent ride (one that can’t be moved) is because there is a higher risk of screws being loose/missing when the ride is constantly being packed up and set up. Most roller coasters are extremely regulated in USA, and some accidents that occur can be blamed on the rider for undoing their restraint, disregarding rules etc.
