    • Interestingly, Julie Andrew’s wanted to do “My Fair Lady” for Jack Warner. But he was concerned about her lack of movie acting and decided to go with Audrey Hepburn instead. Not getting “My Fair Lady” is what made her available for “Mary Poppins,” and she wound up earning the Oscar for it. Also interesting, there is a group of stars who have EGOT - an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. Somehow, Julie Andrew’s has two Emmys, three Grammys, and one Oscar but no Tony award despite playing Eliza Doolittle for as long as she did.

  • I met her once as a kid. I grew up in a family of electricians in the Hamptons so celebrities to me just meant parasites in my town but Julie Andrews was the exception. My brother was a huge Mary Poppins fans and my dad had a job working on her house so we got up early and went with him. I volunteered to help the maid tend to the garden since Julie Andrews was asleep. When she came out, she had this aura about her that was just so welcoming. My brother got extremely nervous and star struck. He hid in my dad's truck and she was kind enough to wait for him to be comfortable enough to come out and say hi. Little known fact, she's actually written 2 books. One was quite popular which was The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodgles and the other was Mandy. She happened to have a special collected edition of both of them with artwork of a girl that looked remarkably like I did tending to a garden. She signed it to me and I always considered that to be such a thoughtful gift. Julie Andrews, in the off chance that you read this, I was that weirdo that gave you the cactus instead of flowers and I still use our meeting as a standard for treating others with patience, respect, and kindness. You're in a league of your own!

  • Eight years ago, when my daughter was 6, we took her to Disneyland for the first time. You would think she requested that we see all the princesses right? No, not at all. A couple of her favorites, but what blew me away was her telling me how excited she was to meet Mary Poppins. It caused me some anxiety, as I didn’t know if Mary Poppins even made appearances in Disneyland. Luckily, it turned out that she did, and I have a picture of my little daughter with a huge smile on her face, holding hands with Mary and Bert. Over the years, we’ve watched many Julie Andrews movies and my daughter has also realized that Mary Poppins is a fictional character. But to this day, she is still a huge Julie Andrews fan ❤️

  • This is easily one of the best of these videos. Julie Andrew’s is, and always has been, a triple threat. And it was caught on film time & time & time again. She is a legend and an icon. Mary Poppins & Sound of Music may be all time classics, but films like Throughly Modern Millie and Victor/Victoria prove how timeless she is.

    • Mrs Potts has a small child, she isn’t in her 80s. The hair in the end was just a powdered wig wig that some used in 1700s when the movie is set in. But Anne Hathaway would have been perfect as Belle if the movie had been made a couple of years prior!

  • My grandfather has late stage Alzheimer’s, he can’t remember my moms childhood or my name anymore, however he finds sooo so much solace in watching The Sound of Music everyday. No joke, 3-4 times a day sometimes. He’ll bring you throughout the movie and pause the tv the exact second before the start of certain songs that are his favorite without fail. When I visited recently, we watched the sound of music 2-3 times and I felt so much every time. These were the only times during the 3 day trip where we were able to have a pretty cohesive conversation. That means so so much to me. I watched the movie a lot as a child and it’ll always be one of my all time favorites. Although you’ll likely never see this, thank you so much for being such a huge part of keeping my family close during this time and making these last moments ones filled with heart and music.
