How to Make Silicone Molds (A MUCH better updated version)
My other two silicone making videos are incredibly long and I ramble on and on about every little thing. Their intended purpose was to help complete beginners, but I believe I confused more than I helped. This video is much much simpler and gets straight to the point. This is what I should have uploaded from the get go. If you've sat through those other videos...sorry. Lol.
WHERE TO BUY SILICONE:
Smooth-On: www.smooth-on.com/products/
Brick in the Yard: www.brickintheyard.com/
TAP Plastics: www.tapplastics.com/product/m...
There are plenty of other places to purchase from. These are just a few. I suggest looking on other sites, like eBay and Amazon, to make sure you're getting the best deal.

Thank You for the Captions! I'm deaf and it was nice to find your video
Brenda Nurre KZhead usually has a captions option on a lot of videos if its available & you press the three dots, usually on one of the top corners & most videos will let you choose captions in a number of languages. Although its pretty funny to read what it says cos of how inaccurate it is, but it's there if there's talking.
So sad I hope ur doing well now
I am sorry. Whish you best life ever.
@@leepenglee2011 ? shes fine. deaf isnt a disease or anything, she just cant hear. shes not "getting better". shes fine
Leah McLaughlin Maybe she didn’t understand. Sometimes people mistakenly read something wrong.
Where and what are the ghosts and coffins made out of? Did you make those? If so do you have a link on where an how to make them?
How would you design your own molds? Would you recommend using clay or cutting foam?
I thought about using clay and molding the clay to the shape I want to substitute as the acrylic pieces she uses. Itll be more original also.
have y'all tried bake clay for making molds? did it work? on the same boat here
its actually really funny you just posted this because i watched the clear silicone mold video literally last night and subscribed
Please do a tutorial on how to do the blood splatter resin pieces. They look so cool!
Is it weird that I watched that whole video wondering if my sister is a secret youtuber because I swear those are her hands! 🤔
Hi. I’ve been using, buying, making silicone Moulds for many years. You have created the neatest and cleanest I have ever seen. Well done! New sub 🇦🇺
Hi, I think you’ll really struggle to use a silicon mould and fill it with silicon as it will just stick to itself and will become inseparable. Is she really wanting the little dolls to be made out of silicon? Perhaps you could pour something else into your silicon mould as an alternative. I think it’s not an easy thing to make silicon toys mainly because they are 3D and not flat like these moulds, if you get what I mean? X
@@fireflysparks1105 I think this is some special silicone, for mold making but I can be mistaken.
What did she mix with the silicon?
Hi. I comment here cuz you said youve been buying silicone many years! And youre in aus. Im in sydney. Would you know where is good place to buy silicone for mould here? Thanks😌
@@amblapark9532 look on Etsy! I found out about botanical gardens AU a few weeks ago on Etsy and she has a lot of different molds
Oh this is just awesome. I'm new to the whole silicone scene and love this idea. I really want to try this out. I am just so intimidated by the mixing, the brands, epoxy and so much more that I almost wanted to ever learn more. This has made me do a doubletake. Thanks.
Me tooo. Love learning all I can. This was a good one!
I’m a crafty lefty too ☺️ glad to see someone else who embraces their left handedness 💖 I love the video 🙏
I'm a lefty also🥰
I have been spending way too much on molds! I didn't think I could make them myself until I watched this. Thank you 💕
oh wow. hav fun cuz there are so many diff types even at the craft store. called mold putty. usually a 2 part putty. u will hav so much fun and save so much money making it yourself and making molds of everything u can. lol. I know I do
L
This was great. Where did u get the acrylic pieces that you molded in this video???
kathy mik you can buy acrylic at Lowe’s and go to a trophy or Laser engraving shop and tell them what you want and they can cut it for you. Look up laser engraving on acrylic and you’ll see so much.
Can you use any type of item to make the mold shape? Stone skull?
@@dorrisatchell8361 It's a solid item, so yes
@@dorrisatchell8361 if you put like "vaseline" around the item, it will be fine
Cheers for this, been searching for "does wax stick to silicone" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Peyaniel Psychological Predominance - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is an awesome one off product for discovering the trick to be a candle maker for profit minus the normal expense. Ive heard some decent things about it and my co-worker got excellent results with it.
OMG! This was the first time I've seen a tutorial about making silicone molds that didn't leave me feeling intimidated. Thank you! Only have one question... I looked at the 3 links but there were so many things. Which silicone did you use?♡
@@LullaBelleCreation thanks!♡
Can I put baby oil on the molds that are matte to get the end results shinny?
Me too
@@christianmusic6034 No....baby oil will affect curing of the resin.
I was thinking the same thing. I've seen many that hardly explain or are very difficult (and expensive). This is one of the best tutorials I've seen on mold making.
Thank you for not talking< Nice background music. I like videos short, sweet & to the point, with captions for important points
🍰
The music was horrible and WAY too loud ..
@@clarkclarke well duh... this person is obviously a bot
Weird because I actually missed the talking. Don’t think I could remain quiet that long. I think when someone is sharing with you how to do something it’s 100% up to them what music and voice or no voice. Be happy for the free info !! 🥰
This is my go-to video for silicone molds. Super nice technique.
What happened here? I just found this channel. Where did they go?

Yay! A simple mold tutorial that isn't all talk or annoying music! Thank you! If you dont mind me asking, where did you get your coffin and ghost?
OMGOODNESS! Thanks for showing me how to do this a little easier. Tfs
What kind of hot glue is that? Mine doesn't peel off. It's more permanent.
How did you make the plastic shapes,
We used to do it a lot at school by using the laser cutter, you draw the shape on a computer program then send it to the laser printer and it cuts on the lines with a laser. Looks to me to be 6mm acrylic she is using. You could also use a jigsaw and cut the acrylic by hand although this won’t get you as smooth a piece as using a laser cutter. Some companies have laser cutters and they cut custom things out for you but it’s not too cheap! Maybe you can buy them somewhere, search for acrylic shapes perhaps? Or you things lying around that you want to duplicate by making a mould of it, good luck!
I needed this! I have a bunch of plastic molds that are just so hard to deal with, so now I can make the same molds out of silicone, thank you!!
This is a wonderful tutorial for someone who has been looking to make their own clear molds for UV resin thanks so much!
Which silicone did you use for this? I love how clear it is.
Trying to figure what you used to make them
I've watched several mold making videos and the two of your videos I've watched so far are the easiest to follow with the best and most professional results. Thank you for making the process seem so much more user friendly. You have nice energy that comes across to the viewers. well done.
I really wish there was information on where you got your fillers/cabs for the molds. I’m having the worst time even getting a general idea of where to look or what to search for.
When you pulled the hot glue gun out I was so worried you were going to just try and make the mold out of hot glue. I'm stupid sorry lol
I did too lol
Me too 🤣
Finally a DIY that give perfect mold. Just beautiful
When I pour epoxy with my counter projects I use a torch and a heat gun to pop the bubbles and it works super good for epoxy. I wonder if the heat gun would work for the silicone? That way if it is flammable the heat gun may pop the bubbles with heat without risking a fire??? Idk, keep a fire extinguisher close and do it outside? Can anyone confirm this theory if it works? Thanks for teaching us how to make a mold, I need to make some epoxy stars for a flag build I'm doing.
Is this just plain silicone? Nothing added?
I have never seen a mold designed so perfectly .... looks store bought! Well done ... excellent video. Watching in 2019 ... big THUMBS UP!
Uld you tell me tha name of the silicone? Thanks
this makes me wanna start making molds the sounds just UGGHHHH YES xd
Thanks for the link!
I have a question please? Where is an affordable place to find the shapes you want to mold, like hearts, stars, moon, seashells etc?
Pennie White I would suggest searching Etsy for resin pieces in the shapes you would like
Thanks Briana! :)
Thanks for mentioning the sites thats a lot of help. what Products do you recommend from each site?
@@LullaBelleCreation you don't sound rude. I think people that are new to this just want to know what you used so they can get the same results you did. Plus maybe people can't always afford to experiment buying different kits. That's why you're showing what works for you isn't it? So we don't have to make mistakes?
Mind if I jump in? Tell me if it's not welcome, I tend to be annoying like this in real life too. People asking what products: Impossible to answer unless you want to know what she used in the video, which she's shared. I found CraftyLefty's videos while looking for silicones, but I'm making molds and the things I'm making from the mold will also be silicone. Long story, but I need to know how much flex is in different types so I watch these videos and wait for the part where I see the person bend it. Now that you know this lefty's situation, I'm going to try and assist in getting some info to you so you can learn on your own and make fewer mistakes than if you hadn't seen this video. 1)You WILL make mistakes 2) Nobody I know who has a creative drive has money to burn. She posted this video to help people, and she has. If you just want to come on here to make people feel responsible for your budget, you might want to rethink some things. 3) See #1 ☺I have some experience with silicone (a rubber) and urethane (also rubber). I don't like urethane so I don't use it. ☺I haven't cast resin, I've done wax and plastic and will be casting silicone into silicone molds. ☺She put a link to SmoothOn here, that's who I've purchased through and they have a page where you can send questions and they give detailed answers, but be specific and detailed with your questions. I usually get answers in less than 24 hours. ☺SmoothOn has a youtube channel with lots of videos/tutorials. Subscribe to it. If you're looking for food-safe silicone, that's where you'll find videos, and there's a search box on their website that you can type "food safe" into. The product descriptions are very detailed and 'food safe' is usually at the bottom of the first paragraph on the product page ☺Find and DL a 'durometer shore hardness chart'. Do an image search or find the one on SmoothOn's site. That chart is priceless, I'll give you a for instance. CL mentioned the OOMOO silicone. I've used the OOMOO30. The number in the product is most often the Shore Hardness. The lower the number, the softer the silicone--but note there's a letter before the number so look in the correct column. In this case, the Shore is OO30. The one in the above video is A15. Looking at the chart, OO30 has the feel & flex of a gel shoe insole (and that's exactly what it feels like. Squishy, and tears relatively easy). the A15 is up the scale so it's harder; feel & flex of a rubber band. I learned this by reading and trial/error. Just like you will, just like CraftyLefty did. After you learn, pay it forward because someone will be in the shoes you're in right now. And if they criticize you for not giving them the answers they want or not making their life less expensive? Come find me and I'll write something for them. Now go make something that's never been made before.
Jackie Sullivan Thanks for this info! I found the chart and that helps a lot, especially when in regards to the different sizes of items I need molds for and how easy/difficult it may to to unmold an item with no give.
CraftyLefty I LOVE your video. Thanks so much for taking the time to make it. Don’t let the complainers get under your skin. People forget that manners should still be in play online. You’re awesome!! ❤️

Thank you so much for the links. I've been trying to find silicone mold base that's actually a clearish/translucent to use with the uv resin I love working with. The colored molds dont work very well for anything deeper than just surface forms. I've got so many things I want to form & make that they dont normally already sell the molds for. Thats amazing that you use the fridge to slow down the cure time so your bubbles are released, 🤩✨💛 thank you for this!

My wife is starting to get into crafts more. We are new at making molds. Was wondering if anyone uses filler material to displace some of the molding product ( silicone) required in making the molds. I know that you wouldn't want to near the actual shape, but seems like in some of these molding videos, there are relatively large areas where a filler objects could be placed, to reduce the volume of silicone etc.. required,, without risking the mold. Is this done?
@@LullaBelleCreation Thanks, for the reply. I haven't done this with crafts, but other construction type situations and it worked Ok also.
