Hubby retired from architecture after 56 yrs. He enjoys cabinet building as a hobby and relaxation. He also enjoys what you are doing. Keep up the good work.
Great to hear it . Thanks ! Interesting , before getting into cabinet making I had a dream of being an architect . I ultimately found out I’m more suited to this . It’s a blessing to find ways to use our abilities in the most fitting way.
Great stuff! Since it is your first time with the domino, make sure you use dust collection, otherwise your mortises can get funky. Great looking cabinet!
That’s a great point ! yes I noticed that but was trying to push forward with getting the footage. I really didn’t even think about it but I actually do have the vacuum that can hook to it . I use it for the festool orbital sander . Definitely going to hook it up and see the difference. Appreciate it!
I’m a below average cabinet maker, and the Festool domino makes it look like I know what I’m doing correctly for sure. You sir are very talented, I like watching your videos for a better look into different ways of going about fabrication.
It definitely was easy to use which is what I’m looking for . Thank you ! Glad there could be something useful. Everyone seems to do it a little differently.
@@cabinetwise it changed my method of using dado’s for my face frames. Hard to get even pressure when you are running 8ft long boards through. So now the domino replaces that part of the fabrication and still allow me to finish my face frames off the boxes so I’m not wasting time taping off boxes to spray and still leaves my small shop open enough to manage pieces.
Well done! Everything turned out great, good job!
Appreciate it ! Thanks for watching
The Domino is designed to be used with extraction. I know others have mentioned it, but it' makes a neater job. Recently found your channel, I'm now a subscriber. Great videos
That’s definitely good to know . Yes many have mentioned it and will do it that way for sure now . Thanks for the support !
There is a setting on the domino to automatically cut the opening tight, a little wider or a lot wider to give you some play if needed. You shouldn’t have to wiggle the domino back and forth as you cut. Love the 1/8th shadow line. I’m going to steal that design tip from you 😊
Glad you like it ! It’s all yours ! Enjoy , haha .yes thanks others have said the same . Didn’t realize that the first time trying it .
Im a cabinetmaker, like the way you do the inset end panels.
Thanks , good to hear !
I have been a trim guy for 15 years...I am thirty-seven now. I just started my cabinet shop about two years ago and I am loving it. I watch and soak up everything you do. You have helped soooooooooo much. Thanks for your video's
Wow that’s fantastic to hear ! There’s so much to do and learn in this trade . Keeps it interesting that’s for sure . With your background in trim work it’s a natural fit !
I operate a beam saw in a cabinet factory up in Canada. I like your clean and tidy shop setting !
Ah nice! Thanks appreciate it . Trying to get it more set up by the day . Still a work in progress
I love the details and precision in your work. Thank you for explaining your steps so clearly.
Thank you , I’m glad you find it helpful.
Very nice work! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thank you! It’s a pleasure
So great to see you uploading again! I've learned so much from your videos. My online apprenticeship continues. Thank you!
Really glad to hear it !! Appreciate the support. It’s amazing how much can be learned online by drawing from a variety of perspectives and experiences.
@@cabinetwise Absolutely! Not that long ago you would only learn from the guy to your left and your right. Now (if you have the will) you can pickup little tricks and tips from around the world.
Perfectly said !
I can’t believe it! You’re back!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
It’s true! Thanks !
Thanks for the build. I'm just starting into cabinet making. Trying to learn some new techniques. I stumbled on your easy drawer boxes build video and implemented those pointers. Very insightful.
Glad it could be helpful. Enjoy the journey!
Thank u for the video ! Been using a domino for 4/5 yrs now in my finish carpentry business! However , now I hope ppl hv a little insight into how much detail work goes into what I call fine carpentry! Look very professional! Molder was a great help! Thk u also to your beautiful wife !
Yes indeed ! Much detail and work . Appreciate it !
First time I tried a domino with the dust extractor I wondered what wizardry just happened before me. Try it. Simply amazing. I would also crew the base to the face frame for good measure. Counter sunk of course. Beautiful cabinet.
Thanks ! Yes eager to try that now
orthopedic surgery specialist, your only fan from Saudi Arabia, enjoying the cabinet making process, keep it up
Wow nice. Lots of people far smarter than me watching . Ok I will try to step up my game ! Ive actually noticed from my Instagram quite a few people from Saudi Arabia seem to enjoy my content so you’re not alone …Thanks for the support !
Great video
Thank you
You said Festool domino, half of KZhead now hates you lol. I love what you are up to on the channel! I am a plant manager at an automation company that has a side hustle in my wood shop hoping to build into a semi retirement gig.
Bring on the hate as long as it comes with views 😂🤣 no really i only want peace haha . Thanks appreciate it! Oh wow that sounds complicated . Cool job, . Well you clearly have the abilities I’ve see your stuff . Keep it up!
Be cautious using the domino machine without extractor as I have broken a bid due to build up of saw dust can also heat up the bits more cutting sawdust over and over. I’m in Ireland and a small furniture /cabinet maker
Appreciate the tip, yes I’ve been hearing this from various people since posting and I’m definitely doing that from now on. Didn’t even think of it in the moment. Welcome and thanks for the support !
Domino provides best results using extraction.
That’s what I’ve been hearing . Appreciate the tip. I didn’t even think of that in that moment but i’ll be doing it that way from now on!
I just stumbled on your channel, It going to be exciting to watch your channel grow, you have a very relaxing way of showing us your method of woodworking. Just wondering what state you are in? Best of luck to you and your wife, and dog😀
I really appreciate that thank you. Glad you appreciate it . We are in California
I’ve been a cabinetmaker for 23 years, we build very similar although I’m jealous of your Castle machine. One of the tools I love most is my mallet. It’s made by wood is good and has a green polyurethane head. Check it out. 🤙🏻
Yes I’m definitely lacking in the mallet department. Will do . Thanks !
Good job, nice video. Congrats for the new tool. But I think you should take safety more serious. You should really use the riding knife
Good tip , appreciate it ! Sometimes I get too comfortable after doing this work for 2 decades . I’m not sure if the riding knife is something that it comes with but I’ll look into that.
He's talking about the lack of a 'riving' knife on your tablesaw. Especially important if you're cutting smaller pieces like your feet that could get trapped and cause a kickback.
Ah haha ! Yes ok now it makes sense . Yes I agree I have some bad habits . Even the push stick I was using was quite worn out and pathetic looking . These are things to definitely consider . I have had wood kick back and it’s no joke!
please use dust collection! domino will break without it
Yes that’s a good point . Didn’t even think of it but next time I will !
The domino is an awesome tool...but definitely designed to be used with the dust extraction...you'll be happier and so will your new machine..vac keeps the hole clean and reducing heat and friction..give the bits some extra life....awesome design on the cabinets by the way
Thanks! Appreciate it . Yes this is what I’ve been hearing . I will definitely do that now . I do have the vacuum from festool I use for their orbital sander . Just didn’t think to connect it when doing this. Eager to see the difference.
How did or would you attach the feet without the fest tool before? Thanks
Depending on the situation I would either use dowels or just screws .
The other day, I bought my domino. I noticed that without dust collection it gets packed up with saw dust.
Yes you are right . I wasn’t even thinking . Next time I’ll hook up the vacuum .
Take this as helpful comment please, you said you wiggled the machine back and forth to elongate the holes. There is a setting on top to safely do that
Aha ! Good to know . Yeah I was really trying that out in real time so I have a lot to learn about it. I appreciate the tip . I’m going to play around with it a bit more this afternoon.
One important counterintuitive tip about adjusting the mortise width on the domino...you only change the setting with the tool running, never with it off. The smallest setting is the exact with of the domino, the other two are a little or much wider. Never change the setting with the tool off or it could damage the tool when you switch it on.
Ok interesting also good to know . Thanks !
Rule #1: Read the manual Don't run the Domino without a vacuum attached...😉 Plus: You can widen the hole by using the green dial...
I do know that now. Thanks for the tip! Many have said the same . When I did that video it was the first time ever using it . Just opened the box and went for it . It came with a Manual?? 😂 I should go look into that . Maybe that’s what those papers on the floor were.
@@cabinetwise 👍
