    • I think it's the emotion that is visible that makes it so much better. Typically (not all the time, but most) the emotion is taken out of a sound when it's recorded because it's usually modified in some way (maybe not the voice, but the breaths or lack of voice cracks). When you can hear everything she's singing, in addition to seeing how it affects her, it becomes SO much stronger and more passionate. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk 😂

    • Sorry, didn't mean to be cryptic also. She sounds better live because a that's what a person gets good at, training their voice for years. They don't train to then be covered with effects and production. A good voice learned to be good, live, in the room, in the hall, in the playground, so it will sound good. Ariana Grande is another perfect example - she sounds great live. She has a very smooth and rich voice but in the studio, they smatter it with effects and production and it loses everything that sounds natural. Billy also sounds better live, because it's smooth, controlled and natural. EDIT: ....and make no mistake, love or hate Billy's voice, she is a pro vocalist. There's videos of her as a kid, SLAYING diva vocal songs with all the control and technique you'd expect in such a song. DOUBLE EDIT: I don't even like her music or voice, myself, so this is completely unbiased.

Kind of like Chester from Linkin' Park, if it's the last song, you'll hear it like it was on the album. If it's the first song, he's going to stick the mic into the crowd for the screams like, "Bro... this is hard, we didn't record the album in a day. You do the screaming."

This is one of those massive exceptions. I had heard her name only because my 16 year old vocalist daughter is crazy about her. For the first time around the Grammy hoopla I finally got off my keester to listen to Ellish. She’s a very special artist that will hopefully stay in the game for all of our benefit.
