Mercedes Trucks and Buses - All 2024 Safety Systems TESTED!
Mercedes Trucks safety systems 2024 tests.
As of July 2024, all trucks, buses and touring coaches newly registered in the EU will have to comply with the regulations of the updated General Safety Regulation (GSR). The regulations have already been in place for new vehicle models since July 2022.
The GSR mandates a whole series of driver assistance systems to further increase road safety for all parties involved. In particular, the electronic assistance systems can contribute as far as possible to keeping moments of inattentiveness due to fatigue, stress or distraction from having serious consequences. This benefits not only truck or bus and touring coach drivers and passengers, but also all other road users traveling by car, bicycle or on foot.
With assistance systems such as Active Brake Assist 6, Active Sideguard Assist 2, Front Guard Assist, Active Drive Assist 3 or Traffic Sign Assist, Daimler Truck more than meets these requirements.
The systems form the new standard in all vehicle variants and represent further added value for the eActros 600 and all other battery-electric models from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, the Actros model series and here also the new generation of the Actros L, the Arocs, Atego and Econic model series, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks as well as the city, intercity and touring coaches of the Mercedes-Benz and Setra brands.

Am I the only one who's heart stood still when I see the truck getting so close to the bicycle? 🧐 what a reliable breaking system 👍👍👍
Yes, i am truck driver
Reliable my ass. It's empty + in a controlled environment. The brake is fresher than the vegetables in Walmart.

You absolutely are because this is testing with no danger involved. Grow up, sissy.
I mean the peterbuilt can do the same lol

Thats what we need to Drive safe in Trucks! incredible Work. Love all Systems
Bro, these brakes are tested on an empty trailer. Any truck will stop in much the same way. But when this truck is pushed from behind by another 20-25 tons of cargo when braking, it will not stop so quickly and will blow everything to hell😅
@@cr1stal184The braking distance is actually faster when loaded. you have 40 tons that press down on 5 axles and give it immense amounts of grip for braking. watch some actual tests with european trucks and you will see that loaded or unlaoded doesnt really matter. Stopping distance is nigh the same. For American trucks however,,,,,, i will never understand why they have such bad brakes that they brake worse when loaded
@@Madhuntr You dont know what your talking about, I drive an Actros & the accident prevention system is SHIT !!! & when it rains it doesnt work at all !!!
@@RebelsInc969 i drove an actroy as well AND i am a certified Mechanic for trucks. you obviously cant read properly since i never talked about the safety systems just about the braking itself. and those are extremely good. Thanks for the view. The best Mercedes-Benz truck.

That camo paint scheme, doesn't hide anything on a truck :)
The camo paint scheme is just used to hide some of the body lines until the vehicle is officially unveiled.
@@Racer7331of course, everyone knows that. It's the same on cars. What was I saying is that on trucks it does not make any sense! The lines are perfectly defined!

so genuine question, does it do damage to any of the mechanical parts? Like does the brakes need to be changed, or some things recalibrated? Because going from cruising speed to a complete stop that fast is bound to break something
Generally vehicles are designed to stop more than once. Even when locking the brakes, only the tires would need inspection. The most difficult situation for brakes is a long period of braking, like for example using your brake to maintain speed on a downhill. People have cooked their brakes this way.
As a truck driver, I can tell it can do the job more than once. At least until the brakes pads can and the system is not overheating (due to extensive braking).
i assume those tests are done with optimal settings? dry road, optimal tire pressure etc.? it was close basically all the time. So lets say weather is wet or the tire has less grip, then an accident is practically unavoidable. Or did I miss something?
The system gives a chance to the driver to intervene until it's too late. Then it takes over. Anything else probably will be illegal.

Adaptive cruise control keeps its distance, seeing that a slow object in front of it slows down in advance, maintaining a given distance. Why drive at the specified speed until there is a possible collision?
Adaptive Cruise control is an option, whereas these systems are now standard on all vehicles

Welcome to Europe
As well as all the electronic safety, it looks like that Camo Actros may also meet the new EU Cab size/aero/safety standard as the cab looks larger and more of the cab is in front of the steering axle. The front corners look a lot more rounded which I think is also a required change. 👍
It means that the people from Volvo did not drive through Romania to become one of the safest car brands.
Looks great right up until your load crashes through the trailer and the cab.
If only there is a thing to avoid that. Like actually securing your cargo properly.
@Dragon.7722 you do no know what you're saying, I work with metal we get delivered rolls of metal where one roll is all you can have on the back of the lorry they're transported standing up because it's actually safer then laying them flat because with vibration they'll just unroll killing anyone who's close enough, but with sharp unexpected braking they'll just roll through your cabin like a tyre that runs away on a motorway 🛣 I don't care how secure you think you have that roll or how many straps you put on it.
@@GuidedArrow Then you put something infront of the rolls so that it can't move freely in case of emergency breaking. It's possible to secure pretty much every load, the limiting factor is either time or money.
@Dragon.7722 and if you worked in the industry, you would know every day they save on both. So is it possible to secure it? Yes, there's even special trailers for the rolls, but do people use them no

So what? Its better that this truck actually stops...
that truck is dangerously quiet!!!! what if a pedastrian's view is obscured and not able to see the truck? the pedastrian wont be able to hear it either!! we need the big wonderful sounding v8 trucks back!!

It's a great invention on paper But if a Volvo truck or bus does this then what about the traffic behind that hits it because of this emergency stop braking system
the speed control is very useful ... sometimes you miss a sign .

is the truck loaded with 40 tons during these tests?
sure not.
You can't load 40 tons into it lad
@@medvykk7184 this is a 40 ton truck and my question was whether it was loaded with 40 tons during these tests
"The Effect of Vehicle Weight on Stopping Distance." The heavier the vehicle, the more work the brakes must do to stop it, and the more heat they absorb. But the brakes, tires, springs, and shock absorbers on heavy vehicles are designed to work best when the vehicle is fully loaded. Empty trucks require greater stopping distances because an empty vehicle has less traction.
Without loading additional weight as in a real case, these tests are unfortunately not representative. 🤔
That's very lovely but I feel sorry for whoever is following that truck. Because they're going to smash into the back of it lol
security distance
And the motorbike rider drives away oblivious to what just happened and the 100 vehicle pile up they left behind the lorry.
Was dann passiert kannst du dir ja denken.
Rip to the perosn driving behind that truck.
That’s what you call antilock brakes
The break checkers are going to put it to the test. There going to see what it takes for the system to fail. Just so they scam insurance money. The trucks should also come with forward looking cameras as factory default. Along with a vehicle data recorder . To prove that the system worked as designed but the offenders made certain that the vehicle had no chance of stopping in the allowed distance causing the incident. Otherwise as soon as they start getting hit with those there going to sya the computer didn't stop the truck. 🙄

man thats gotta be expensive as fuck
What about a system to keep trucks behind a car at a "2 seconds" distance, because there are some truck drivers who stay "glued" to the trunk of the car in front of them??? 🤦 Maybe truck manufacturers will see this comment.
Looks good until the truck is loaded down. Or the bus is full of people and weighs more
I will only trust this trucks if VanDamme does splits on them
The video is an advertisement only. The real tests are done fully loaded. Otherwise it makes no sense.
It leaves the braking way too late. What happens if the brakes are too warm, or wet, or if the truck is fully laden?
Most of the test scenarios in this video only seem to be if the driver is not paying enough attention. If the driver is not paying enough attention to need system like that then he shouldn't be driving the ones where something pulls out from a blind spot yes grate idea but still seems more like an expensive excuse to be able to hire less experienced drivers As well as trying to just out right get rid of drivers to save cost buy uesing driverless vehicles its just going to led to more jobs layoffs and thats not the way to go forward
Experienced drivers kill people everyday all arround the world, it's human error. These systems are good to reduce the risks but drivers should be aware at all times.
These safety systems are all good until they fail. My cars active city stop censor gets covered in road grime as I drive and has no safety washer system. What happens if these systems fail and the vehicle fails? Is the driver at fault? Well they certainly are in the UK where loads of cyclists and pedestrians are killed every year by lorries. Thats why the drivers still need more training.
When will new buses get the new side mirror camera instead of the regular mirror one. I was once hit in the head by the Intouros mirror, that did fucking hurt and i am the avrage hight of 1.8m so it isnt like i am super tall or something
are you serious? just go 20 cm away from road...
Thats the load ruined.
I do not like the way how these systems are working. Postpone braking until the last seconds and then braking until stop causing a dangerous situation for those coming behind. Should reduce the speed earlier and only to the extent necessary (not until stop)
You are missing the point that these systems are safety features. As in they take over control unless the driver doesnt do something, for some reason. Ofc a normal driver would pay attention and react sooner, but its for when the driver for whatever reason does not.
@@henninghellerud OK, then imagine that situation when temperature is cold and road is wet. In that case also not a proper solution to apply full braking in the last seconds because that will not slows down enough the lorry and hits the barrier by high speed instrad of stopping. I stand by my opinion AEB should intervene earlier.
@@eszgabor i can agree that in some of these test its too close for comfort. But i like that these systems gets implemented, and i recon they testing it under slippery conditions aswell. I think we can agree on we’ve rather have these trucks than rely on the driver always paying attention.
@@henninghellerud Yes, absolutely positive the implementation of these safety systems to not rely only on the lorry driver if he is awake and listening to the traffic.

uhmm ...ya but when they cut in front of you and the brakes slam on not sooo nice . As you speed up to pass and it turns on when you get too close to car your passing .... you must change driving habits too us it .
There's a difference between passing and about to collide. The system will recognize you trying to pass another vehicle, So it won't activate because it doesn't sense a collision
