  • This is a great concept. “The advanced stuff is the boring stuff.”

    • As it was explained to me by Tom Stow.

  • It is worth mentioning that Tom Stow coached the great Don Budge. In 1938, Budge became the first player to win all four Grand Slam tournaments in the same calendar year. The only other male player to do this was Rod Laver. Stow was instrumental in Budge’s development as a player.

    • True about Tom with Budge. Tom also coached many other top world class male & female players.

  • Hey Brent About 15 years ago, as a beginner, I purchased your topspin backhand course and that is still my best shot today as it really taught me the fundamentals. So a big thank you. I had a quick question on the practice you do. I am just about to go up to the 60s but mainly play against people half my age as the local people my age struggle to give me a competitive game. The problem is the younger guys hit the ball so differently to the better older guys I play in tournaments. I am guessing at your level this issue must arise for you too. Any tips on how you deal with this in practice?

    • Good to read about your backhand. Glad the course helped. I know what you mean about younger practice opponents. It's definitely a different game compared to your own age group. So two things ... I schedule a practice match from time to time ve. a younger guy b/c I like to have to work with faster ball speeds and more court coverage by that younger guy. When I go back to my age group, it's waaaay slower. And then secondly, you have to get more resourceful finding guys close to your age who are good. Might mean a little travel on your part. 90 minutes drive, whatever. Play more tournaments and start building a list of same age players who are good and relatively close to you.

    • @@webtennis Thanks for your quick reply Brent. I must admit I prefer the faster ball so enjoy playing the younger guys and I still compete in open singles leagues here in the UK Pre Covid I had some good contacts but that episode and some parental bereavements since then has meany I have had less opportunity to play tournaments and reach out to people. However, I am playing an aged tournament next week so will look to reignite the fire!
