  • This is the last update on the Pikachu x Furby Ice burg. A few days after posting this I started to think the Pikachu furby images were fake, After spending a few hours this morning looking into it and finding the original image of them both together in much higher quality (check my community post to see the image) it definitely gives this story and the images more credit. (thanks to Rhymesmcfist on twitter for finding the link to this pic!) I'm going to leave it up to you guys to decide/continue any research into this at least for now. Maybe someone reading this is an expert and can tell if the catalog images are tampered with or not! The original image looks real, the articles are definitely real, But something about this entire story just seems strange to me. If I or someone can get there hands on an original catalog of the Toy fair presentations from tiger electronics during the year 2000 we will finally know the truth! But I have an incredible headache from this stuff and I have the Heart Gold Oddity Quest video project to work on, so for now I'll leave it here! Thanks for watching the new video and going on this wild ride with me! Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this eventually. Phin

Also you would have to be able to place it in front of a second Pikachu and watch them "battle". If all you do is press it's hand and it moves, it's not a Tiger Electronics Interactive Pikachu.

    • I didn't own one myself... but my younger sister did! Which is interesting, because she never played a single Pokémon game in her life. She only got (very casually) into Pokémon because I adored it and she ended seeing a few of them she liked the design of, including Pikachu, of course. That universal appeal is the reason why Pokémon is the most lucrative brand in the whole world, after all. To get back on topic, though... I don't remember what happened to it. I think our mom threw it away once its "fur" got moldy or something, unfortunately.

    • Furby caught on before the alleged controversy, so it is entirely possible there was concern parents might not want to buy them for their kids, maybe even the creators were starting to see them that way too. Its more likely though that the market was just becoming too saturated by animatronic toys for their liking.

    • THE MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTION: Will you go to Heaven when you die? Have you lied, stolen, used God’s name in vain, or lusted (which Jesus said was adultery, Matthew. 5:28)? If so, God sees you as a liar, thief, blasphemer, and adulterer at heart. If you die in your sins, you will end up in a terrible place called Hell. But there's good news. Though we broke God's Law, Jesus paid the fine by dying on the cross: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John. 3:16). Then Jesus rose from the dead and was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses. He fulfilled all the prophecies of the promised Savior. Please, today, repent and trust Jesus, and God will forgive you and grant you the gift of eternal life (Ephesians. 2:8,9). Then, to show your gratitude, read the Bible daily and obey it, join a Christian church, and be baptized. Visit t.co/jp8bFXYtmE and t.co/xnaFXWz1gr

  • As fascinating and completely on brand for the 90's as the Furby Pikachu is, that heart wrenching quote from Banksy and your philosophizing made this video a triumph. It begs the question; when a person is posthumously rediscovered, and their name spoken once more, do they then live again?

    • @@BlueBoyPhin Ok but that Banksy quote is a reference to a very old piece of literature which , yeah I can see Banksy as the kind of person to read books that are hundreds of years old. the original quote said a man dies twice and only mentioned it as a literal man , even using he/him/his pronouns- as in this logic was not applied to women/children/etc so the changes Banksy made to the quote were likely to erase the connotations of prejudice within it's original word choices.

  • It may have also been because Pikachu canonically doesn't speak human language, so Nintendo may have had push-back on the licensee Tiger Electronics, which in addition to the delay on Yoda/ET, may have caused Tiger to not go forward with the Pikachu. This may also mean that prototypes are out there, in China likely, or maybe some in Japan, the plush-skins of them, and possibly even the robot frame (if it wasn't just a furby frame with different software).

  • I actually have one of the Interactive Pikachus, Although it ran out of batteries it just feels like a heavy plush. it's actually really soft and can be used as a regular plushy to hug, it's quite nice to have.

  • I think it might be worth looking into the creepy animatronic Pikachu that keeps popping up in Pokémon Presents to see if maybe the Furby was the inspiration

  • So happy to see this video~! I'm hoping this will bring some light to these dudes. Around the same time these were found out about, someone also found out about an Interactive Mike and Sully that Tiger was planning, and they ended up finding the prototypes for them. So there's still hope we can find the prototypes for these guys! :D

  • It also probably didn't help that Furby's around this time got really torn a new one by the FBI freaking out about them and thinking they could record government secrets and stuff. Didn't know about the earthquake, but that would also be a problem. D:

  • I had one of these as a kid, they still have some for sale on ebay and i think about getting one for the nostalgia. It was awesome it would talk randomly on its own and want to be taken care of. The eyes on the final model don't move but it reacted to clicking its hand and moved its mouth and ears

  • KZhead suggested this to me and as soon as I saw meowth it brought back memories. I wish I knew where I saw or read about these! I feel like maybe it was a magazine, either Toy Fair or like one of the Pokemon magazines from back in the day? I used to stare at that meowth really wanting it.. so I had to have seen it somewhere? I wish I could offer more than that

  • I remember my brother had one of those talking yoda's as small child. I remember seeing under the skin of it by looking under its eye skin and being freaked out seeing a robot under it. I never had a furby as my parents really were not amused by noise making toys. I don't remember ever having any. My parents only let my brother have his creepy yoda and his singing spiderman toy because they thought he was so adorable with then. But those were the exceptions. Don't mind, noise making toys are indeed annoying normally. Except the spiderman toy, that was just adorable.

  • I had the pikachu one! I remember his cheeks being a different material and that always bothered me since I expected it to be soft. I think I had broken mine fairly early on(throwing it into action was common) so it still would say it’s standard pikachu sounds but it sounded muffled and pretty robotic.

  • This made me think of the year like over a couple decades back i got my brother in-law a "Fortune Telling" Yoda. Basically a talking magic 8 ball in the style of Yoda. He proceeded to ask it if his son deserved any presents... it gave a rather negative answer and made the kid cry. He loved it.

  • wow this video is a masterpiece. The editing, the music and the background footage all combine to create the aesthetic of the early 2000s internet. The story telling was on point and left me at the edge of my seat, despite it being about something I wouldn't have dreamt to care about. I have no doubt you could make videos like this about anything and be super entertaining. Thanks for the hard work.

  • I wonder if those were the prototypes for the animatronic Pikachu toys we all clearly had. If like you said, they were displayed and not well received, they ditched the Meowth and went for a "cuter" Pikachu (mine was still pretty horrifying) Though I don't think I got mine until at least 2002.

And after a few minutes of confusion i came outside to see this exact toy stuck on a tree. Years later I adopted a dog named eevee and now this pikachu is in pieces 😂

  • Longtime pokemon collector here! I had the animatronic plush Mew shown in the promo near the beginning and end of the video!! I’m pretty sure I still have it somewhere, it’s actually one of my childhood toys. The Mew had the weird moving eyes showcased and spoke and wagged its tail. I don’t remember if it responded to you or just made noise when it felt like it lmao. I could try to look for it, I’m pretty sure I never got rid of it. I have vague memories of that pikachu existing but it’s very possibly a Mandela Effect, and I’m conflating the pikachu with a similarly looking pikachu plush that only had the light up cheeks and talking components 🤔

  • This was one hell of a nostalgia wave, Idistinctly remember having this pikachu. The cheeks would flash and ears and tail would wiggle when you pressed its hand or belly. I remember it having it doing a couple of different noises including a long "chaaa" sound and I remember having to take the battery pack out of its butt and turn it off at night because it would make noise randomly. I had it for YEARS until all the motors stopped working and it sounded like it was underwater.
