Love it. Great job!
I WOULD GIVE YOU 1000 thumbs up and subscriptions man! Hours wasted last night on TC going in my 1970 charger… You just made my day
Your a genius! Thanks bro!
I counted 3 thuds, just like dad showed me when i was 8. Splines 1, splines2, pump. Pass it on
Thanks a lot !!simple bit clever 😅
This video literally saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars cause I was fixing to put mine in with just one click going in and noticed the starter didn’t mock up right, watched this video did what you said and it slid in another inch almost now everything meshes up perfect. Thank you!
This Comment made this video worth it. Glad ot Helped put! 🤘
i love this guy!
Thanks for the video man looks like I'm pulling the transmission back out 😂😂 but I'm with you, I'm learning.
Excellent info Ruben. Thank You! Going to be doing this myself soon.
👍
Excellent & well explained. Great help
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, you motivated me! I just bought two 440s and an old transmission to rebuild.
Yeah it's not to bad if you have any question I'm pretty much an expert now and the leading authority on this subject just give me a call haha 😆 jk please watch this video instead
Watch this video it's the best one out there among some others like John Wimburns as Great "Why a transmission works" videos kzhead.info/sun/odGScbBvoGVomXk/bejne.html
I looked in past the seal tonight on mt turbo 350. I wasn't sure if the convertor was going in all the way. I lined up the slots on the converter to the pump pins and slid it in.
I wish my dad would have told me. 😢. Most important thing ever said all year.
Thank God you did this video bro I've been trying to get mine on for two to three days on my 46re/518 already lol. I've only been able to get two "thuds" and I knew there should be three! Anyways thanks again brother for the knowledge.
Thank you!! I'm about to start installing one in a few minytes and I also iked and subscribed to your channel. 👍👍
Thanks Brotha. 🤘
I guess I've been luckier than all get out....I've installed probably about 20 of these and never had an issue....but now that I've said that I'm in for it....thanks for your video.
Bro thank you so much
Nice. Good video, love learning something new. Ive done many without trouble but if i get jammed up i will know. Ours is apart now too. Good luck to ya. Im passing my knowledge to my son in his vids and were having alot of fun.
Yeah tell em about the ol screw driver trick lol haha
Never had this problem before but I will always remember this in the future thanks.
No Problem man and if you forget there's always "that one video with that one trick" to go hunt for In a pinch
Geeze you sure are having your times with transmissions bro ..hopefully you get it all sorted an installed an she turns out it be a real good trans for ya after all the hours you got into it .. I look forward to see ya taking us for a ride in it an finally getting to the track for some fun bro !! Cheers 👍
Tanks for rooting for us...I'm looking forward to that drive as well!
Like that rapper kid 69 I'm telling everybody 😂👍🍻🍻
Thanks man. :)
Thanks so much I hade same problem like yours
Does anyone know if you change your gear ratio on your truck should you install a torque converter with a different stall speed or does it affect your torque converter at all
You did well
im doing my first one today and i want say thank you should go easy
Spent a few hours light night fighting with getting the torque converter back in. Hoping this trick works for me when I get back to it tonight!
Amazing it was so difficult. I rotate the converter as I install it. I'm not entirely strong anymore though, so I do it the wrong way but I'm really careful to make sure to get the tabs aligned and never just force it (this cracks the gear). Then the converter should not be jammed plumb up against the flywheel, there should be a gap between it and the flywheel.
You saved my life lol
Does this trick apply to a jeep wrangler 2016 ? Upon changing a bad torque converter off and putting back a new one?
Great video Ruben.
Thanks Dude. Hopefully all this can help someone out there. I know it has me lol
wow you are so smart
wish the people that did the gearbox swap on my car watched this first!!!! they didnt put the converter in properly and then used the bell housing bolts to pull the box closer to the motor. 2 seconds later. sump cracked!
If you are replacing the flex plate or have it out it always helps to line up the 4 holes and mark one of them with spray paint. Then you know you will catch the bolts in the right spot the first try.
Yeah I mark em with a marker when I take em off and if putting a new on and mark it while out of the Trans with a marker. Good stuff
I hope that's the same problem I'm having.spent about the same amount of time and it started feeling g maddening.gonna try your solution now
Interesting, I’ll have to try that. I’ve always stood them on the tail shaft to plop them in. But there’s a trick to it. The Roadkill guys had issues cause they had an early trans, I think 66 or 67 and older 727’s have a different spline count. That’s why their converter wouldn’t go in.
Oh yeah that will do it also. Thankfully I counted all the splines on this one
Your voice sounds like hermer the frog 🐸🐸 it's freakin awesome
Put 2 long bolts in the torque converter and use it like a handle. spin, turn, and push is the key.
what now? are saying attach it to the flexplate with long bolts? why would this be advantageous?
@@pearlrival3124 Most bell housings don't have enough room to hold the converter from the sides so instead of trying to hold it all from the middle nipple use 2 long bolts in the flex plate holes. Now you have something to hold on to. Or if the converter isn't filled stand the trans up and let gravity help you.
Always be sure to again check converter engagement on pump tangs when bolting converter to flex plate. Sometimes you need to shim the converter when bolting it up .
Great Advice man! 👍
Can that works on jk gearbox as well
Dude... Just to state fact's.. my all Stock Swap 318/ A904 ... I realized I got so lucky.. I had two days to put it together.. or have it towed somewhere.. yes I had to tow it not running at first.. but I my shit bolted up and went together.. this wouldn't halted my entire life.. Food for thought.. thanks Boss..
Nice Man! 🤘
we all have to learn some how. I know this video will help someone down the road.
Yeah man. Makes it worth it knowing it might get someone out of a sticky situation.
I did on 904 I'm still having issue getting the torque converter to seat in output shaft is rusty
Hahaha.... File it right into the library of Congress my Brother.. I remember once while working at Classes industry.. told customer.. first find the Off set Bolt first.. besides all your great advice.. Them flange bolts.. yeah I was twice is right guy hahaha no bullshit here.. hahaha Keep at it Brother.. Oi Oi Oi
🤟 freakin pro now!
Like s glove
Just did one on a c6 corvette, the converter was spinning with the torque tube I thought what in hell how am I gonna get this to line up had to put a bolt in converter and use a ratchet to snag it against the torque tube access hole the using the flywheel access hole to use the flywheel 18mm bolt and rotate to the right so you don't break those loose, was finally able to get it close to the pad, then you gotta take a screwdriver and pry/rotate against the access hole and the converter pad to get the torque tube face to align good times it's like the more your know the more shit you try😂 eventually something's got to work... Hope this helps anyone...
That's why GM chamferred the hub.
Man I am sorry your having so many problems. At this point I’d consider taking it to a transshop . But your like me you want to be able to say you did all the work on your car. And hopefully you lurn be doing and hopefully the next time you gotta do it. It becomes second nature. So I hope you the best of luck I’ll be here keeping up to date on your video’s!
Thanks Man. Yeah I've been taking stuff to shops my whole life and those lessons are not cheap either as nothing I've had built my any "shop" has ever been worth a crap. So I'll just learn and do it right or do it till I get it right lol
Well in the Spring I’ll get my 73 Challenger out of storage. Just like Mr Hide I found my baby in a steel building Black on Black 340 car Now has a 71 440 with a tunnel ram duel 450 hollys mopar purple cam Keith black pistons block bored .40 over 906 heads hooker headers timing gear set. 727 torkflight 410 gear. She needs panted but there’s no rust holes in the body had a few tiny spots in the trunk. It’s got centerline rims 15x8 on the from 15x10 on the back maybe I’ll take it to duck tape drags one of these days.
One important thing is..when installing the transmission ' make sure you go in level..it you bump the torque converter and it hangs up..the torque converter could move forward..and then the pump will trash out..I use a piece of stout metal..1/8 thick on each side..bolt in..this will keep the torque converter from moving out..once it's in.unbolt them..
I actually installed and removed engine 4 times because - the torque converter didn't sit properly.
Slide it on spin it in, easy. If it doesn't go pull back a bit spin it in again, easy. I've never stood one on its tail.
Watched this way too late. Already broke something on my subaru legacy AT. Car wont go when i shift into gear now
Spin till you win.
Weeeeeeee!.....lol
Or just spin and spin the converter and it will eventually center up the gear. Might take 10 spins, but it will.
I'm not sure if you and WILL Thorpe are trolling me at this point 🤔 lol
@@MuscleCityMadness Nope. I'm pulling for you. I want to see Hyde get quicker!
@@johnwilburn the spin it till it drop thing just makes my spine tingle but will says it works too so it be an actual thing.

Inow you guys are my sons….
I hate when the Torque converters want to be a pain in the ass! I didn’t have one quite seated all the way in my 70 Bee, and couldn’t figure out why the trans wouldn’t bolt up flush…Lesson learned, do over!
I had to learn this breaking the pump gear in a 1989 Hyundai Excel. Next thing I learned: How to swap to a manual transmission! It's all just tuition in the school of hot rodding.
Yeah man I destroyed a Trans like that be careful man. It should sit about an 1inch recessed into the BELL Housing when seated. Hard lessons to learn but we learn them and keep rocking! 🤘
@@MuscleCityMadness agree!
Good information. #nonamenationals Quest for 500 subs. Go burn some rubber.
I can add this another reason why he automatic transmissions lol
😄
That's not how we do it. I can install converter faster than you can line up the pump gears. You've never rebuilt a transmission
save you a heart ache... get someone els to do it
