Xiaomi 14 Ultra Photography Kit | Upgrade Your Camera Experience!
Reviewing the Xiaomi 14 Ultra Photography Kit, to boost your camera experience with more battery power and physical improvements. This unboxing and full tour of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra camera kit shows off all of the bits you get for £170 UK. Check out my verdict on the actual flagship smartphone in my separate review!
Now I'm already impressed by the excellent shooting experience on this mighty device, one of the best camera phones of 2024 for photo and video capture. However, if you have an extra bit of cash, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra Photography Kit is a worthy accessory. Not only does this improve the comfort and protect your expensive smartphone; it also adds physical buttons. You've got a dedicated shutter, zoom slider, video record and custom dial.
On top of that, this camera kit adds a secondary battery to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. So if you're shooting all day long, you hopefully won't face a dead phone before night time.
And you can also add filters to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra's camera if you have even more cash to spend on that!

Took my 14 ultra out for a photo session. Incredible photos, the best by far from any phone I have ever used. Competitive with my Leica Q too!
My question is: if you have the money for a flagship, why not an iphone or a samsung?
@@mastercrafter101-minecraft5 I had a iPhone 14 pro max and the Samsung S23 ultra. The interface of the Xiaomi is far superior to both and it takes much better photos.
Vivo X100 takes better pics
iPhone takes better videos especially in log @@fatphoca5009
@@TerriTerriHotSaucenot when I compared them back to back.
For that price tag combined with the fact that you already bought the phone itself, they could have included like two filters to play around with.
Kinda surprised by the same too! No filters or extra zooming kit, better to buy something else from other websites which offer cinematic kits
In some countries they include the filter kit which comes with three filters.
Here in China it only costs 700€
@@aspilobo 1499 eur without kit in Germany
In middle east, we get this with the phone for free along other stuff like vip card for service card
Amaaazing! I am suspecting that in future this kit could even be re-engineered to make those lens rings to be able to improve zoom and focus.
I can say it's amazing, tphone & the photography kit
Happy that you used the two steps of the shutter button. All other reviewers didn't so far and that's ridiculous. 😅
10+ years ago, as an accessory, the Nokia Lumia 1020 had a dedicated camera grip.
Man, those were the days.
@@rchgmer863 I still have both. The 1020 still takes great looking photographs. It is worth watching the video comparing the 1020 with the iPhone 13 Pro.
You're talking about that professional Camera that came with a smartphone inside. Good old Lumia days!
@@rchgmer863 I still have both as the 1020 still produces great photos.
@@figoxor Still a great camera.
Terrific 🎉🎉🎉
Nice one, tnx mate!
Great Review and a very useful piece of kit. Well worth it for holidays and photographers. I think we will be seeing a lot of this from now on. The Chinese innovation is starting to seriously accelerate now. The newer Android tablets from Xiaomi and Honor are fantastic tablets at jaw dropping prices. The gamers will have to for the more expensive processors but for media consumers you get amazing value from 200 to 400 in terms of screen size and speakers, a Bluetooth keyboard and you never have to suffer Windows again. And with Huawei you can decontaminate from Google.
I want one if have money. The grip looks so comfy and secure
Thanks for review. Could you please also explain if this whole system is easily installable on gimbal and any sort of stabilizers while moving for videography projects?
Not only do you get the official international version in Hong Kong or Taiwan for 865 pounds, the photography kit comes free for people who buy the phone on release day, and if that isn't enough there are 3 filters thrown in for free too. Rip off Britain!
we got the photography kit free and also xiaomi pad 6 for free. not really a rip off. just no filters xD
@@minnokhan1064 Nice!!
You guys are lucky, here in Sweden we get to pay about 1750 euros for the phone itself when is released. No freebies included! :(

@@minnokhan1064 That's much better!
Xiaomi UK are giving this kit plus a tablet as part of a deal right now. Plus £150 off +trade in. I put in my old Oppo find x5 pro and was offered £229 +£150 off the £1299 price then getting the photo kit & tablet. Seems like a sweet enough deal. Considering it
The camera accessory is currently free along with pad 6 gravity tablet which is fine for kids to mess around on.. Just needs a case. Overall very impressed so far. Like spurt said the clip on accessory makes it even heavier and there's not a lot of advantage except showing off when out! The orange ring is neat though. Will I regret not waiting for Pura 70? Bloody hope not
is it ready to pre order for global version already?
Would you prefer the Xiaomi 14 ultra over the Tecno Camon 30 pro in sense of performance?
This is what the iphone needs to be an offer... I would buy it immediately.
Will come definitely after two three generations..
iPhone will simply add Shutter button in 1-2 generation
They did offer stuffs similar to this back in the days on their first ip if i remember correctly Now, yeah, i would do the same Still have a mac and an ipad tho, mostly for work since everyone in my place only use Apple 😂😂
Just buy Samsung
Why didn't you get the camera kit free with the phone and the free tablet? For £1,249 you could have got the phone, camera kit and a Xiaomi Pad 6....
He would have gotten the phone sent to him for free by xiaomi weeks before the release for testing
@@davidbezzant9820ah good point 😜

Can I get type C display out when the camera module is installed?
Have you had any issues with with this 14 Ultra like steam on camera ?
Who needs the Iphone when you have this
Who needs an iphone in general, theyre garbagé
Someone wanting an iPhone would need the iPhone, I believe.
@@And_Sun_Yk i want a porsche gt3..... i dont need one.
@@ChillyNuts4u considering the Xiaomi 14 Ultra costs as much as the iPhone, so does the S24U, that comparison makes no sense.
@@And_Sun_Yk what comparison? In both of my comments i didnt compare anything..
This is the first android phone with a camera sensor that is capable of a 14bit readout which is actually insane. The previous max was 12bit meaning smartphone cameras might soon be capable of 14.7 stops of dynamic range. Iphone 15 pro maximum was 13.4 at ISO 1200.
What does this mean in English?
@@TerriTerriHotSauce I'm not really good at turning technical jibberish into general easy to digest knowledge 😅 Sorry my friend
Damn
Have you tried it with other phones and does it work?
Xiaomi should hire you: you really can sell an eskimo ice, or, in your case, booze to a nondrinker 😅 This is a fancy rip off: how long do one keep a cellphone? 2,4,20 years? For that price you can buy a oneplus12+sony rx100vii (on offer). Sure one package offers advantages over 2 items, but is more limited too. As an amateur photographer having a tilting screen, a viewfinder, advanced focus capabilities, dedicated buttons is a must. I don't always carry my dslr, but the rx100 is always in my backpack (or pocket)
Can the grip be used (disconnected) as a remote wireless shutter?
You didn't mention if the user has to sacrifice the bottom speaker while having the grip mounted...
This is amazing...but is it better then buying a dji pocket 2 ?

What is the maximum fps for continuous shooting at 1080p and 720p ?

Sony did it first to be fair

@@camotech1314agree, I had 2 Sony Cybershot phones years ago (pre-smartphone). They took brilliant photos.
Excellent camera and I like the photo kit. The biggest problem is that the phone uses the grip battery first, so the grip easily runs out of power
Yeah. What a failure. The grip will stop charging till it only left 5% for U to use. Hope the software will soon. Maybe allow us to choose charge or not charge when it connects.
@@nickytan9074 I think the PM doesn't figure out the real needs of target users, many Chinese are complaining, XM has been working on it. I think next updates will fix it by locking the battery to a even level of the phone.
@@yilinchen8499 hi, it's been updated. It can set as no charging while grip attached. However, the 80% remaining charge mode, yes it will stop it charge at 80% , but it always displays a changing logo which is misleading. Also wondering while its displays the charging logo (while your phone is 80%), will it kill the camera kit battery? I think it's yes.
@@nickytan9074 Cos I used Chinese version, not quite sure about international version, but seems works fine to me after last updates, charging logo just a connection sign. From Tech view, when things got connected, software can stop active current exchanges, but not passive information exchanges, cos it still connects with each other.
Hello, does the Xiaomi 14 Ultra Global version you tested have a 5300mAh battery? I ask this question because mine has a 5300mAh battery. And let me be clear, it's a Global version. While at the presentation of the official Xiaomi Global version, it was announced that the battery was 5000mAh for the Global version even on their official website it's 5000mAh. This is the reason for my question and my concern. Normally, the 5300mAh version was only intended for the Asian market. Thank you for your reply.
No it's not a global version the global version has 5000mAh
@@leroyjiovanni8123 Thank you for your reply. Do you have the global version?
Yes. I'm holding gobal version and its only 5000mah. Wondering how U got a 5300mah with gobal version? Modified?

Nice
With that money you get a very good mirorless and a decent lens ...
This costs around 800€ in China. You can barely get a Sony A7R II
@@aspilobo you can get a decent a6400 with some nice all around lenses. And i was talkimg about europe since this guy lives in europe/uk
you never confirmed if this case allows for a vertical on desk position without a fall
So what's it for?
Have you noticed a rattling sound from the camera or back when shaking the phone ? Coz i have this issue and not sure whats causing it. You can hear the sound pretty clear!
It's the lenses in the camera. All Mi Ultra phones of the past have had the rattle :/ Open the camera app, zoom 5x and you won't be able to hear the rattle anymore.
Couldn't wait to get the camera kit, problem is it doesn't work properly, you cant use EV compensation when in pro mode, if you set it to say,, shutter speed or ISO instead, that doesn't work in normal mode, set the zoom lever up, it doesn't work in pro mode, and you cant re-allocate to another function other than zoom which doesn't work in pro mode, surely most of the folk willing to fork out for the camera kit are photographers, professional or armature looing for that familiar feel and control, so why set the dam thing up this way it makes it almost useless, /gutted
The first thing that concerns me, is the idea of having a lanyard on something that only slides on. If you lose grip of it while around your wrist, what stops it from sliding off and you watching your nice expensive phone bounce to it's doom?
There's a button on the side that clicks onto the case so it doesn't slide off. You have to press the button to take the grip off.
I just received my 14 Ultra with Photography Kit. I'm a bit disappointed that this new grip no longer work wirelessly like the grip for 13 Ultra
does the 14 ultra fit 13 ultra?
photography kit included in the box for gobal version? yes/no
Very expensive vs China here in the continent but seeing how its beyond Samsung/Apple in competitive hardware plus those very cool photo gimmicks i can see why they wouldn't spare us the pain.
That camera bump is so big that Xiaomi and Leica could have probably fitted a full frame sensor in there!
Noup, it would need to have double the volume. And it wouldn’t leave room for cooling sistem nor sensor shift stabilisation
I wonder if this camera kit would fit with 13 ultra or not?
yes, it even fits with iphone 15 pro.

Will you be doing a review on the Samsung A55 ?
For that price including the phone better get a proper Mirrorless camera that will give you more photo quality because that's the selling point of this phone, and keep a cheap smartphone as an actual phone!
Reminiscent of the Sony bolt on camera kit from years ago!
Gutted i didnt upgrade when they had the deal on including the kit.. might have to wait for the 15 to come out.. cant be late to the party!
Lg G5 had exactly this and was slated.
Is the phone and the added piece of camera tech worth the money is this phone as good as the Samsung 24 galaxy ultra. Chris what is the best for this price please thank you😊
I have the s24 ultra, and just bought this phone, got the camera kit free and a tablet. The 14 ultra might have a great camera, but the software is so limited! I can't use nova launcher with gestures, loads of apps I use can't be used. You can't import your nova launcher backup.... It's basically an android iPhone. Hopefully I can send it back. Galaxy s24 ultra is so much better imo.

So their solution is basically went back to the Digital Camera - which is cheaper with better results - and the smartphone is not a replacement anymore 😅😅😅
Smartphones are good because you have 3 to 4 focal lengths only using “prime lenses”. But I’m seriously thinking about buying a compact camera for my everyday snapshots and selfies… tho I don’t see anything good on the market. The problem with zoom lens is that they usually don’t keep the same aperture… so in that category smartphones, dispare using plastic lens and shit simply have the edge
for a accessory that cost so much it doesn't even have a zoom len included
