Love the Prince, but you can see the problems already there in this fight.. Alicea had some quality, but would never go on to accomplish anything notable as a professional. A stunning win that aged quite badly.

You should listen to the HBO Commentary for this fight, they got creamy pants when Hamed went down in the 1st, knocking any fighter that doesn’t live in the Americas is their standard response. Unfortunately when Naz dropped the bombs Alicea got wiped out and they predictably reversed their opinion and were in awe of him. Contradiction seems to be a very American thing. No need to remind me of Barrera, by then Naz was not doing the right things in his preparation or team selection. There is no doubt Naz was a very gifted fighter in his prime and arguably the fans were robbed that he didnt fullfil his complete potential by making poor career choices. Still an all time great of these shores regardless 👊🏻

He always said it’s what he would do and he kept to his word. Not many people do that in any sport or in life in general. He single-handedly redefined boxing for the smaller guys and made them interesting to watch. Before him, no one really cared about the smaller guys.

ALL these 'elite' fighters wanted no part of him in the mid to late 90s. Didnt barrera decline frank warrens multi million dollar offer to fight hamed in 1995?
