Civilization 5 is the fantastic Turn Based Grand Strategy video game where you are tasked with leading your nation to a certain victory be it science victory, conquest victory or even an easy diplomatic victory. It can be tricky to pull off a victory especially in multiplayer however if you manage to exploit and glitch civilization V you can give yourself an unfair advantage against AI and rival Players. So naturally today The Spiffing Brit is going to be demonstrating an efficient way of destroying friendships by asking if CIV 5 is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits or if the Unlimited money glitch could perhaps put you at an unfair advantage... I mean surely spiff owning all the city states and financially dominating the world is a rough demonstration of just how overpowered this glitch can be.
So sit back and watch as the spiffing brit tests to see if Civilization 5 is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits or if the Infinite gold glitch is broken and overpowered!!!
This video game exploit video will be jam packed with a best bits funny moments montage style of editing similar to that of Valefisk, Robbaz and RTgame. So sit back relax and grab a cup of tea to enjoy with the spiffing brit!

    • @@noodlesinabowl3682 Yeah, I'm exaggerating a bit - you can definitely get some wonders, especially if you beeline them specifically. But it's certainly difficult to get most of the popular wonders like Great Library, and to get GL you have to play your early game specifically towards getting Great Library, which is a trade off. Personally on high difficulties I'd pretty much always prioritize getting out settlers and workers to expand and develop your infrastructure, and some military units to defend yourself over sinking production into early game wonders. If you start near an aggressive AI on deity they almost certainly will be coming for you at some point so you have to be ready for that.

    • @Steven Petersen I guess you're just suffering from the horrible affliction known as "not paying attention", and as a result not knowing what to do when it comes to it. The walk-through is at 16:00 through 19:15, and the gist of it is: 1. Give them all your stuff and gold-per-turn in return for all their cash gold. 2. Replace an improvement structure on one of the resources you're giving them with a fort to "cancel" the deal (because you're technically not providing the resource anymore). 3. That's it. You're still keeping the gold they gave you, with no repercussions. And it's repeatable.

    • No matter what your game plan is its pretty much best to put your first point into tradition since it more then doubles your culture gain so you get your next policy in 4 turns or less. Liberty is good but not for your first policy as it needs 4 cities to equal tradition and 5+ to beat it (I'm not talking about any of the nodes btw, just the culture bonus for unlocking the tree)

  • Spiff only took this exploit to 300 GPT, but I've managed to take it to a completely different level. The first thing to do is play as Russia--double strategic resources--then get the game going like he showed in the video. Once you want to start the exploit, do things just like he showed you, but use one unit of a strategic resource per exchange. Once you've had the snowball rolling for a while, you'll get to the point where you have about 1000 GPT and more than 9999 gold in the bank. At this point, you'll start struggling to make significant gains since the game only lets you trade 9999 gold or GPT at a time, and the AI only trades 200 GPT for 9000 gold. (This is on epic length, the GPT traded on different modes is probably different.) BUT! If you ask for more than that, say 500 GPT, then press the "What will you give me for this?" button, the AI can request more than a mere 9999 gold. They'll ask for luxury and strategic resources as well, just get rid of those and decrease the GPT you're asking for. Do the same thing but opposite when getting your gold back from the AI--type in 600 GPT and 1 horse, and take whatever they'll give you. With this method, after repeating 28 times (4 horses and 24 iron), I've managed an utterly ridiculous 375,422 gold and 51,449 GPT. Poland, my trading partner, is at -37,594 GPT. Yikes.

Civ II is my favourite though - it has the best solution to deathstacks (if stacked units aren't in a fort or a city, they all die if any of them get attacked and lose), and I don't get why this wasn't used in any other civ game (3 and 4 have stupid deathstacks, and 5 and 6 are awkward when you're trying to move troops through each other). The AIs are good at killing each other in Civ II as well, and the stock-footage wonder videos are cool. Civ 2: Test of Time version goes way into the future, and has fantasy and sci-fi modes (it's basically 3 civ games in 1).

  • Spiff! I'd love to see you use my favorite Civ V cheese. England, Archipelago, largest map size, max number of countries and city-states. Expand very aggressively and spec for aquatic units. Your goal is the English UU, the Ship of The Line. If you stack every bonus you can possibly give your naval units from social policies, and focus all your cities on Production, you can churn out a huge navy that, thanks to the Archipelago map, needs only a couple melee naval units to capture cities after you barrage the fuck out of them. I'm talking two-shotting whole cities here. Then, under the communist ideology, I believe, you can get "Gunboat Diplomacy" which makes you gain influence with city states simply by having military units near them. Naturally, that synergizes extremely well with your obscenely huge navy, and you can easily dominate the world congress. After that, it's a cakewalk to make everywhere the sun shines the lovely British Empire.

    • Idk that I'd really call this "cheese," per se. Frigate units are kinda just OP in general in Civ5. Like you don't even need to do England to do this kind of strat, just any civ rushing navigation and a healthy access to iron can do it. You can also easily use privateers to capture cities rather than using some land units (assuming no inland cities, against which frigate units become less good anyway), and they are also accessible with nav.

  • Im not sure if my old exploit of civ 2 still works, but what i used to do was go hard in technology so that you are far ahead of the others. Then you start to sell off your technology the round before the other civ will finish their own research of it. All I did was ask them what they would offer for this tech and boom they gave me everything. The trick however was that on the same round as you sold this tech to 1 civilization, you literally sell the same tech to all other civs. they will give you everything you want for it while literally making the tech useless since now everyone has it. Repeat as many times as you like.

  • Enrico Dandolo was actually a very interesting guy. When he was young he was resident of Constantinople and their emperor gave back trading rights to their enemies. This caused the Venetians to attack them. So as a response the emperor retaliated by imprisoning thousands of Venetians and restraining their rights in return. This caused the Venetians, with Dandolo onboard, to launch a retaliatory raid which failed. Still he managed to harbour this rage until he became Doge himself, then when the Crusaders wanted to have a visit to Constantinople, because that's what good Christians do: they attack fellow Christians in a holy war, and ran out of cash to pay for the transports, old Dandolo, now in his 90s and completely blind, had an idea: "What if we could strike a deal. Free transport in return for epic loot!" The Crusaders said, yes, didn't have much choice since their crusading boners were about to go flaccid, and when they landed he still recalled the exact layout from his memory and directed his men to haul all the goods to their boats. And this is why a lot of Byzantine relics, art pieces such as sculptures, iconic paintings and more are now part of today's Venetian cultural heritage. Oh, and when I visited the Hagia Sophia I came across the cenotaph of Enrico Dandolo, who was actually buried in Constantinople. I can only recommend the same since he invented what people tried to emulate in WoW later: summons for loot.
