How I wish they could return to this kind of music. Not that I hate their current genre but it's songs like yellow that made Coldplay what they are. They had their own genre and no other band was able to be like them.

I just think that people criticizing this have not quite got the thing. This is actually the point about Coldplay being a little different than most of the rest of the businness (at least still at that time). I feel like Chris sometimes just absolutely wants to sing, and if he does so, he may sing as he feels. In some cases the result can be not very "proper" or correct, from a technical point of view. But this makes it attractive - it's got this extraordinary and refreshing authenticity.

Viva La Vida is my favorite era because of that. Coldplay exploded in creativity and a huge desire to play freely. No coincidence that they managed to record many more songs than in any other of their eras. I think this was the time where they discovered their true potential and their true sound. A little bit underrated these days.

I have a very similar vocal range to Chris and this song is quite hard for the baritones. He does his own thing to cut through those high notes with some head voice and I think it makes it unique and beautiful. When I listen to Yellow cover from a relaxed tenor it doesn’t give me the same chill sense...

One of my favorite band of artists of all time. With tons of fans yet appropriately would never be a favorite of the “mainstream masses” some of Coldplay’s best songs would never be released as a mainstream single because so many people wouldn’t understand what makes it so good, like green eyes for example.
