Okay, because some people don't seem to get how Kickstarter works. People are only charged for their pledges if the campaign is fully funded. No money was taken from anyone who submitted a pledge.
People are just confused with all the news about these donations websites and get worried. Your work is very cool and I think your more manageable project might be more successful than you think. Blair witch project (1999).... gl man we need creative people like you. Also the setting is quite fitting :).

I loved Overlord and Dollhouse so much! So sad that the next one in the series is gone. Hopefully, we might see the series in the future!
I’m just a random viewer who knows nothing about leading a project like this, but if Heretic is revisited in the future, maybe you could split it into two or three parts? That way, you can gain interest in the project based off of the first part, and possibly bring in more donations for the second/third. Like a Dollhouse kind of situation with the story picking up immediately where the previous one left off. Again, I have no experience in this type of thing, but it’s an idea.
That does seem like a great idea. That's basically what the creator of Astartes did and he's now making a sequel on a larger budget backed by a multi-billion dollar company (hopefully it maintains its artistic integrity). I think part of the problem with live action is that once you're on location, it's way more expensive to break things up into parts. So if you have a scene that takes place in a house, for example, then there's a scene towards the end of the film in the same house, you aren't saving any money by filming the first scene and then coming back later to film the second scene. This is because of actor/crew schedules, permits, equipment and props, etc. etc. Once you've started filming, it's all or nothing.
This will bring up some recurring costs like above-mentioned. For independent small-scale production party it would be a big deal.

It’s mind-boggling. And please don’t GW the benefit of the doubt. They’re a piece of shit company. The only reason the creator of Astartes is even working with them is because they forced them to under threat of lawsuit because GW’s policy on fan projects is backwards logic. @@maxducks2001 Yeah I'm familiar with the situation regarding Astartes (and the really shitty sound edits), I just didn't want to drag people into it on an unrelated video 😄 I have faith the creator has the talent and passion to continue the project, but it's obvious with Warhammer+ and its terrible quality Astartes II will struggle in ways it shouldn't.

Im actually little heart broken. Since having started reading into SCP, it is absolutely fascinating to me. And Evan does such a great job at visually realizing it. And it makes me sad to see this happen.
Even with Heretic being cancelled, we all know that ya’ll will always create amazing films in the future just as you’ve done before!
Aww man, I just listened to the interview on the Art and War podcast. Sucks to see this cancelled, but I hope you can learn whatever lessons need to be learned from this, and come back stronger next round. Your talent and drive are incredible, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Found out the coordinates and it was relatively close to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant
The numbers at around 6:26 were co-ordinates that when put in google maps, put a pin on Reactor #4 at Chernobyl

This is a bummer. Filmmaking is damn hard. The fact that any independent film gets to distribution is a miracle. All the best on your future projects.

Two very important adages: the first is 'Don't throw good money after bad.' I can see that you understand that. You're moving forward despite the time, effort, and funds that went into the project, and that's a good thing. It's awful the way things worked out, but I found some bittersweet satisfaction in how you said you were moving on to more achievable projects. You don't need some randy to applaud you for being reasonable here in the face of disappointment, but eh, I'll do it anyway. But the second is 'Hindsight is 20-20.' Think long and hard about the 'mistakes' or 'missteps' you made during production, and then apply even more thinking to whether you could have foreseen them at the time with the information and knowledge you had. If there's stuff you genuinely think you overlooked and shouldn't have, then by all means, live and learn, but don't beat yourself up over the stuff you couldn't have known or reasonably guessed. You do amazing work, bro. Been with you for a while, and I don't intend on leaving. You do good work and you put a lot of care into it. Can't ask for much more. .......and if Blumhouse says they'll give you a few million bucks to do 'SWAT vs. Knockoff-FNAF' or something, holy cow, please do that, because I will watch the everloving daylights out of that.
Damn Bro, That really sucks. I would have definitely helped but I just found your channel and am in love with your videos. Hope you can do more SCP again! I know the pain this has caused you having tried and failed to start films of my own but for someone with such great films and that is definitely a massive asset to the SCP community I really am sorry it didn't work out so far.
Hey that’s a tough project to put together, gotta still give props to the team for attempting such a big project, especially one that is a million dollar with straight up industry standard.
Game of Thrones was pushing over $10 million per episode in the last few seasons (and sometimes $15). Stranger Things? $6~8 million per episode. The Tick? $5 million. American Gods? $8 million. Terra Nova? $4.5 million for its pilot. Fucking 13 Reasons Why averages $5 million per episode. $1 million for TV/movies in 2022 is absolutely chump change. $650,000 is basically nothing in this industry.

Not only would people have not been charged and we'd receive zero dollars by the end of the campaign. If we were able to get that amount, 200k would mean we would have to make something completely different given the demands of the script, which would be a failure on our part to deliver on what people were pledging towards. 200k is indeed a lot, just not for Heretic.

I remember thinking "Wow, I'm super happy that this project still managed to get like $200,000 of support right after christmas and during tax season where people have the least money, people really love this series, maybe it has a chance", like, glass half full kind of stuff. We were all hyped up for SCP: Heretic because it would be the most epic video with more Action within it but what we got is just plain sadness

Sad to see this happen but I'm glad you guys are still on your feet and good to move on from it. Regarding future projects, how about animation like you used to do? I've seen pretty magical stuff done with Unreal Engine films, and I think something like Heretic would work amazingly for it.

It's a shame that Heretic didn't take off like you wanted, but knowing how well you've done with previous projects, I'm confident you'll do great things regardless. Whether or not you'll succeed in future isn't a question to me - but I do hope everyone involved is doing okay, mentally and emotionally. Creation is an exhausting endeavour, especially on the level and scale you lot do. Make sure you're looking after yourselves - and we're all rooting for you!

Honestly I had no idea this was even a thing until a week or two ago when wendigoon promoted it. I still remember being pleasantly surprised with the previous two chapters.

Given that these numbers lead straight to reactor 4 in Chernobyl and given the current world stance with whats happening I think getting filming access in a partly restricted area with armed gaurds might be a tad costly
The other short films made were absolutely amazing, and it's going to be really sad to see this project not be completed :(

I just got into this by watching a marine and internet city react to your content and honesty it is really good. This is the stuff I want to watch on streaming platforms or in a movie theater. The fact that this was next after overlord would have been awesome

I wish that this had gotten all that it needed but it's understandable. I hope that you still get it as close as you can with what you have, and even do more. The SCP videos were honestly a favorite and got me into SCP. As for what you're new project will be, I am hyped. Thats something that has always been interesting to me.
For people wondering, there is co-ordinates at the end of the video. If you run these co-ordinates through Google Maps EXACTLY, it is the 4th reactor unit of Chernobyl's nuclear power plant. This is the one that exploded in the Soviet Union in 1986. Maybe their next movie will involve KGB/GRU-P, and maybe UIU/FBI? Considering the fact that the GRU-P and KGB are Soviet secret police units it wouldn't be too far off a bad guess.

I actually loved the GTA-style milsims u guys did in the earlier SCP videos, so I was wondering if u guys have thought of doing that instead of live-action.

Personally, I think you may have been able to market it more if there were smaller rewards. Even something like a patch for a pledge of $25 or up might have gotten you some attention. I hope it happens in the future

At the end of the day, you exhaust all options, you do everything you can, and shit just comes up short. That’s just life. We live, and we learn, and we move on. I’m disappointed to say the least, but the transparency and honesty goes a hell of a long way towards helping me and everyone else understand. It sounds like you tried literally every single avenue possible to get it to work, and it just didn’t. But there is a silver lining to this. You learned. You now understand the costs associated with what this project would have required, what future projects could require, and better ideas on how to properly market your product and make sure it gets the true funding it needs. Do I understand any of that? Absolutely not. I’m just a massive fan of overlord and and a fan of SCP in general, but I thought that any positive comment or thought in the situation can help. But let’s look at it in an even deeper light. You started with SCP re-enactments in video games, and ended up with a “medium-length” film that could rival most full length action/horror movies. That’s a huge accomplishment, and not something everyone can say. But you can. I have full faith in the fact that whatever project you work on in the future will have true love for the source material, and when love for the source is poured into a product, that product is almost always 10x better than some soulless multi-million dollar one. I dunno, I guess to summarize what I’m trying to say is thank you. Thank you for being honest and transparent, thank you for doing everything possible to keep the project afloat, and most importantly, don’t get beaten down by this. Life is full of bumps in the road. It wouldn’t be life without it. But the vehicle that is your life will still keep moving along to greener pastures.

I rather not let this property be sold off to a streaming site because they could own the rights and potentially try to copyright SCP itself and that's a huge problem for the fandom
@LCL The attempt itself is a threat, considering how much potential damage was/could've been done by the Russian person that tried to trademark it there.
he stated that in the video. if they would make the deal they had to cut all scp stuff out because it is public property. they can not license this without any legal problems.

@@thetalesofdaneandco You don't know what you're talking about. Russian copyright law was why there were difficulties overseas, SCP would be protected in the states. I wouldn't jeopardize the IP I owe my success to, nor could I get away with it if I tried. Neither you nor the OP listened to the video where I state that anything tying it directly to the IP would be removed on an embargoed version, then put back on the KZhead version (Following a three month embargo) in order to comply with creative commons copyright law.
