After hearing so much about this 4X4 Trial, we decided to explore this rock fountain, gravel covered desolated area..... and we had huge fun.
The Orange River is South Africa's biggest river and what a place to play!!

  • Awesome trip! We are doing this next week. Do you perhaps have the GPX tracks to save me mapping the route myself?

  • When did you guys do the trail? We did this trail start of February. The river was very high and we couldn’t stay at Ramansdrift. Melhoutboom was great albeit very windy and we had a proper sand storm. At least we didn’t get bitten by mozzies! But boy was it hot

    • We must have just missed you guys as we went there from 5 Feb, I agree Melkhoutboom was also windy for us and a sand storm ( the getting stuck was the highlight lol ) but that’s why we never camped there either. I think if you wanted to camp at Ramansdrift where the sign board shows you to go then it wouldn’t be a nice spot, we followed a track just before the campsite to the left for about 2 or 3 km and there was a few sights but higher up away from river so you couldn’t really swim or even bath in it and the water was running very strongly. Did you guys also go to Groenrivier?

    • @@graveltravels no we didn’t. Kamgab was final stop and then we headed back down south. To be honest the heat was getting to us and we had come up via a stay in the Tankwa. It’s definitely a route I’ll do again in cooler months.

    • @@greenestmachine71 We also battled with the heat, but I think the fact that we could swim made it bare able, I think winter could be interesting indeed. Let us know how it goes and what the temperatures are like.
