All this was made possible by Chris Reid at / speyside_snaps and I have to thank him for making this possible.
So sit back, relax and enjoy this very special episode.............

This made me laugh Dan. I had a 2minute ripping of the pigeon out of the clamps but I had only had myself to blame! Great vid.

Hi Dan, I've just found your channel and love the passion, enthusiasm and excitement shown in the vlogs. The Goshawk is on my wishlist and hope to tick the box fairly soon but, prior to that, I'm off to Mull next month and will use the tips from your vlogs about your hunt for otters. Keep up the great work.
Thanks very much Ian and thanks for following the channel I really appreciate the support. Goshawks have got to be my all time favourite raptor to photograph they are just awesome! Hope you have a fantastic trip to Mull, I’m sure you will it’s a wonderful island. All the best 👍🏻
Very nice work dan. 👍
Thanks very much, appreciate it 👍🏻
What i like about your videos is less about the gear and more about the subject.well done
Thank you I appreciate that 👍🏻
Fabulous birds . Thank you for sharing .
Thanks very much and I completely agree with you they are fabulous 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography Yes indeed .
Brilliant once again Dan. Just for the life of me can't get over the sheer quality of those shots, and your singing the praises of other's while being modest about your own work and I'm not sure why! I love the work of Trond Westby and Morten Hilmer, but in my book your up there with them without a doubt. Great work. Stick to the one z9 though Dan, or with that divorce the cost of that second one might get a bit to expensive lol. Can't wait to see your unicorn shots, their going to be awesome haha. Best to pops as always.👍
Dave your comment has definitely put a huge smile on my face thank you so much I really appreciate it 👍🏻
Wow. Another cracking video and so me stunning shots. Looking forward to the next one

You lucky fella, some marvelous shots and footage of such an elusive raptor, what a top spot, you were obviously in your element. Been fortunate working in the Kielder Forest area for many years have had several sightings, especially courtship displays, well done brill video as usual 👏
Kielder Forest is somewhere I’ve been wanting to visit for quite some time and you’ve definitely peaked my interest. Thanks for your comment I appreciate it 👍🏻

What an amazing adventure. The photos/video was worth the early start! Great work
Thanks for your comment and support I appreciate it 👍🏻
Another fantastic vlog Dan. The Goshawk - WHAT a bird! Great to see you got some great images & footage & the joy is obvious in your face, words & emotions. Lovely work mate, & some great advice re lens/focal length suggestions too. My 400 F4 on a full frame sounds ideal, & I also have a Sigma 60-600 Sports lens for some different compositions & an option to switch orientation to portrait. Cheers for the heads up, looks amazing & well pleased for you mate. All the best to you & pops 👍 Keep on keeping on! Best, Nick
Thanks Nick I really appreciate your support and positive feedback. I definitely think that zooms are so much more flexible in these situations and the range of your Sigma sounds awesome. All the best mate 👍🏻
You have a new subscriber my friend! What amazing footage and photographs you've got there!

Thanks very much for your comment and support it’s appreciated 👍🏻
Awsome video and images Dan! Goshawks are on my to do list using cameratrap soon!
Thanks very much and good luck with the camera trap 👍🏻
Absolutely breath taking footage Dan!! I've never seen such clear and smooth footage of a bird of prey as that. What a beautiful bird of prey the Goshawk is too - never seen one in the wild but I might need to visit Chris down the road from me soon after watching that! You well and truly nailed it...oh, and ofcourse I've subscribed! Really looking forward to watching more of your content. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much for your comment and sub it’s very much appreciated 👍🏻
Well done mate....I dont need to get to the end of the Vlog epic mate 🙂
Cheers mate, a big thanks to you for initially putting me in touch with Chris 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography Not a problem, so happy that you got to experience it.
Thank you for this vlog Dan, the Goshawk is a truly magnificent bird of prey as are most of them. I would love to have the opportunity to photograph one at some point.
Thanks very much Lee for your comment and support 👍🏻
brill mate
Thanks Ian 👍🏻
Fantastic video and images! That's a species I would love to photograph one day - definitely making a note of Chris's details... Totally get what you said about the ideal focal distance - so many times in hides I wish I still had a 300mm!
Thanks Geoff I really appreciate your comment, drop me an email on dannwillis79@gmail.com if you get chance 👍🏻
Enjoyed watching your video once again, my only niggle is the light from the trees behind. The 400mm 4.5 lens is a really good lens by the sound of things it might be a worthy addition to your kit and it works really well with both tele converters.Just a suggestion I don't want to be the cause of your divorce.
😂😂😂 you might just have got me set on the 400mm. Thanks for the comment Malcolm and I completely agree with you on the light tree in the background 👍🏻
Here's a challenge for you ...... try n bag the ultra elusive and extremely rare .. Wildcat . On another note .. remember back in the 80's on the news about the Exmoor Beast ....and the poor footage/images of it ..that was shown . Has anyone ever made a concise effort to capture on camera if there possible offspring roaming the area ? .
Now that is a challenge Colin! I struggle to believe that with all the people putting out camera traps and trail cameras and not capturing anything resembling panthers wether there’s much truth in the Exmoor Beast but you never know 🤷🏻♂️
Magnificent birds, both the goshawk and the sparrowhawk. Certainly a hell of an experience for admirers of these fantastic predators. Great video footage and images. I would say however that the background to that perch is very distracting with both vertical and horizontal bands presumably caused by pale coloured oof tree trunks/ branches? One observation I would make is that a lot of wildlife photography content on KZhead these days appears to be taken at these commercial set ups and whilst the images obtained from these can be, and often are, superb I sometimes get the impression that successful photography is coming down to simply having plenty of money to buy success.
Thanks for your comment Robert. I must admit that the background is a little distracting and you are absolutely right it comes from the bark on the trees behind. As for the hide, this is not a commercial hide and money won’t get someone the chance to get in there. Chris has worked tirelessly on this place and trust with people is what gets you the opportunities. I certainly do not have plenty of money and so combine my own tracking and fieldcraft with some time in hides as well.
Hi Dan did you stay in accommodation and if so was it close to were you were for the goshawk hide ?
Hi Andrew, I stayed in Aviemore and drove to the hide as I was photographing multiple species over the course of a week. Unfortunately Chris no longer has the Goshawk hide but he is developing a new hide which looks very promising 👍🏻
Great vlog mate and such a fantastic bird 👍 Does Chris take bookings for his hide and if so how do I get in touch Cheers Dan and keep up the good work 👏
Thanks very much for your response. This is a non commercial hide so I would suggest getting in touch with Chris and take it from there 👍🏻
@@danwillis_photography Ok mate. Cheers for that 👍
Dan, whats the full address of the Goshawk hide please.
Sorry Paul it’s not a commercial hide and I can’t give the address. Feel free to contact Chris though on the instagram address I’ve put in the account 👍🏻
Thanks Dan.
The posts in the background reveal how unnatural the whole set up is and spoils the images for me , not comfortable with baited hides and pigeons nailed to posts to be honest but its a beautiful bird and i would love to photograph it in the wild
Fair points, the posts you refer to are actually trees that have caught what little light was in the clearing in this forest that the hide was situated in.
Do the pigeons cry when the hawk eats them? It looks painful.
In most instances the pigeon is deceased before the hawk begins its meal. They kill with their talons and incredibly strong crushing power of their feet. Often the pigeons are killed in flight prior to the Goshawk perching and beginning its meal.
When you’re filming yourself talking, do you film that on a camera or on your phone?🤍
I film myself using a combination of DJI pocket 2 and GoPro Hero 11 👍🏻
Stunning just stunning
Thank you 😊
