  • Anyone else find that excessive caffeine makes you overall more tired?

    @WhatIveLearned@WhatIveLearned2 жыл бұрын
    • Absolutely. But I have a very complicated relationship with caffeine, sometimes it gives me energy and sometimes it saps it, lol.

      @stupidrainbo@stupidrainbo2 жыл бұрын
    • Absolutely it does. I wrote a research paper about that in college. Caffeine revs and depletes your adrenaline, among other side effects, and essentially makes it less functional when you really need it and causing you to feel stress symptoms, like you're in fight or flight mode, which is exhausting because it's meant to be a temporary, rare state. It also can negatively impact your sleep of course, cause of rollercoaster high/come down feeling, and make you more prone to 'get it done or get irritated about it' mode which is also emotionally, and therefore physically, taxing. If you feel like caffeine may be causing you tiredness, I highly recommend taking a weekend or whatever kind of break you have to really try to FEEL your body's signals and figure out what you're truly wanting or needing when you start to reach for more caffeine. If you come to the conclusion you're just tired and want a boost, it's extremely liberating and eye-opening to just take a quick nap instead! In my experience you'll be able to figure out what your body is really wanting more in the future.

  • If I find myself getting drowsy and losing steam around midday, I sometimes take a quick power nap. You don't even have to fall asleep - just resting with my eyes closed for 10-15 minutes will give me a boost in energy. Just make sure you set an alarm so you don't overdo it. I avoided caffeine most of my life because I never wanted to be dependant on it and I always had such high levels of energy throughout the day. • "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is a slogan, but it doesn't say when it should occur or what it should consist of! I have been skipping "breakfast" regularly since I was allowed to do so. Eating early in the day usually made me feel sluggish, even nauseated. Since I have pretty much quit this habit, I have never regretted it, but still enjoy my "breakfast" nights, where I eat traditional breakfast foods after work. I usually don't get hungry until about 11 a.m. and sometimes feel tired after lunch. I will see what lowering my carb intake can do to offset this.

  • My pattern when I hold myself to it is 1. Wake up around equatorial sunrise of my longitude (I live at 45 N so this means well before the sun is up in December and long after it's up in June). I have a sun lamp set on a timer to help with this that lights up my room as if I had an east facing large window. 2. Go for a morning run. The colder it is the faster I have to run to stay warm. 3. Quick calisthenics and meditation 4. Shower, starting warm and progressively getting colder until it's so cold I'm focusing on embracing the cold instead of reaching for the valve. 5. Protein and fat based light breakfast, typically eggs. (sometimes caffeine, no more than three days a week) 6. Go about my daily activities outside or near a sunlit window as much as possible. 7. 20 minute nap in the early afternoon, on my lunch break if I'm working a 9-5. 8. More time in or near the sun if possible. I put my desk near a large south facing window for example. 9. Carb heavy dinner, my main meal, around equatorial sunset. 10. Sleepytime tea a little before bed as well as no blue light and minimal room lighting after dinner. 11. Another round of meditation. 12. At around 9:30 solar time (time zones can be weird, man) sleep in a cool room, I'll crack the window in cold months or just set my AC as low as economically possible in warm months.

  • As a person with low blood pressure, this is why we're recommended a low carb diet, as we already tend to suffer from low energy/feeling sluggish. Also, our blood pressure getting low enough will literally cause some of us (me) to crash (faint aka syncope.) Edit to add that we're also encouraged to get plenty of water and to add salt and caffeine to our diet. So now I'm wondering if there's a connection to orexin and low blood pressure. As a bonus, we're also recommended to get plenty of b12 and b9 (folate,) so maybe check to see if there's any studies that show whether those two help boost orexin? Lastly, we're told to limit our alcohol as it can be dehydrating.

  • TIPS DOWN HERE: Through my years of finding the ultimate natural productive state. I did find that fasting gets me so much work done. Im a very lean person and discipline feels easy to me. Been doing this for years. TRY THIS: 1. Dont eat breakfast till you’ve completed your morning chores and yet maybe morning work. Effect: it trains your mind to do these things in repitition thru the action-reward system in your brain like how you train a dog to do tricks before he gets his treat. The more you do this, the easier it gets. 2. EAT HEAVY DINNER because this is your reward for everything you’ve done for the day, and will make you more productive tomorrow and have energy for tomorrow’s morning fast. Also, food coma is a great way to get to sleep and avoid those sleepless nights. 3. We all need coffee to help us sometimes. HAVE YOUR COFFEE BLACK without sugar. It hits different.

Rarely, even standing up. Somatic Experiencing, a physical therapy for PTSD, is what finally resolved my chronic fatigue, that was caused by trapped energy in the nervous system. Definitely a completely different situation than the info in this video, which is also very useful. • I just thought I'd share my own experience after having tried fasting for the last 2+ weeks because of this video. I started fasting two weeks after I saw this video on the day it was released. I restricted my eating hours to 8 hours before sleep (didn't eat any solid food in between but would always have coffee with butter when I'm hungry, and if available, some broth) because I noticed I was getting extremely tired after every meal, and because of that I couldn't get anything done. Two weeks after watching this video, I restricted my eating window the next day without much preparation or practice in advance (not recommending this!) except making sure I drink more water, take more salt, take supplements, and have better meals when I'm eating. In my experience, staying hungry wasn't as challenging as I thought it'd be, especially because of butter coffee (which I have 1-2 times in the span of the 8-10 hour fast). The sensation of hunger usually comes at the time of day you'd usually be eating and subsides after a short while. What really surprised me was how fast it worked and how it's still been working ever since. The effects were present on the very first day, and I had a lot more energy than I normally would throughout the day until I have a meal again and I'd get drowsy for a while, but nothing like what it used to be. The first night I couldn't sleep, not because I was hungry, but because I just had way too much energy. After a while, I noticed that I could get around with a bit less sleep than I'd usually have and I could sleep a lot better. So the effects have been very very positive for me.

    • You are potassium deficient...hence that effect. We are suppose to get 4700 mg daily (thats approx. 7 cups of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and fresh leafy greens daily) from the foods we eat. Carbs have little to none and also inhibit the minerals derived from leafy greens, fruits and vegetables (fun fact). Eating carbs or worse refined carbs ( eg. manufactured salad dressing, pasta,s white and wheat flour based products etc. etc.) are essentially inhibiting mineral absorption. Hence why leafy greens, vegetables and fruits are so important, they have the potassium and the other minerals needed to maintain balance in the body. At least 7 out of 10 people have this issue, some more severe than others. Constant high or elevated blood pressure is also another symptom of this.

    • How do you all not pass out from eating once a day? My blood sugar will drop and I’ll faint if I miss breakfast

    • @@yikes6532 u might have to work up to it. also, a normal person shouldnt fainting from that level of blood sugar. if that is the case, u might have some kind of issue

    • @@yikes6532 when u approach the fasting point that is around 4-5 hours after not eating your energy will dip super low but if u manage to push through that then literally the opposite would happen (or at least it would for me) where I would feel boundless energy and would be able to focus on tasks almost endlessly.

  • This is sick! I kinda knew a lot of these things, but knowing why is awesome. This video has inspired a new game plan! Intermittent fasting, skip breakfast, eat protein and fat for lunch, eat healthy-ish carbs for dinner. The carbs help put me to sleep. I’m thinking for healthy carbs: rice n beans, potato, veggies, etc. For lunch, I might honestly be eating eggs, avacado and meat. People always see breakfast as the time to eat eggs, but I’ll be breaking my fast at noonish instead of 7am!

  • A video about magnesium and its link to stress, anxiety, and depression would be great. Dr. Tracy Marks recently posted a video about it, and hearing your take on it would be awesome.

  • Great video and tips! 👏 One major correlation I think makes people a lot more tired is how much time they spend in the scroll hole (Mindless scrolling social media). Many think this is a break but its actually a lot of work and decision making for the brain and depletes it fast. Solution = Learn to focus your mind! 😉

    • I suspect it feels like it tires you out because anything highly addictive/stimulating/repetitive (which infinite scrolling is precision-engineered to be) down-regulates dopamine receptors, after which every aspect of life feels worse.

  • Everyone!! Something to consider. If you are suffering from insomnia and find that drinking an energy drink makes you sleepy, it might be because you are supplementing a vitamin B deficiency, which, once your B levels are rectified, allows your body to properly put you to sleep. There’s a chubbyemu (or side channel of his) video that details this.

    • by "supplementing a vitamin B deficiency" do you mean taking vitamin B when you have a deficiency of it or do you mean simply having the deficiency?
