To be fair, I would definitely NOT testify in my own criminal trial, regardless of innocence or guilt. It's just a bad idea. He should just say "my lawyers strongly advised I not testify, so I'm not going to." And leave it at that. No one is stopping him from doing it, he's just trying to make himself a victim.
