  • When I was fourteen I had a paper route during the late 1960's. I would collect money at the end of the month and stand in the doorway to wait. The nightly news would usually be on in the living room and I would get a bits of the war. There would be updates on how many US soldiers died in recent action as well as how many of the enemy were killed. I remember watching/reading about Tet and Hamburger hill and wanted no part of that. When I was younger I had strong allergy attacks and went to a hospital twice a week for shots. My mother was fairly certain this would keep me out of the army and had the necessarily documentation. At the time the war was raging and there was on end in sight.
