One of the greatest adventure stories in Hollywood history gets a new interpretation in this action drama from Academy Award-winning director Peter Jackson. In the early 1930s, Carl Denham (Jack Black) is a daring filmmaker and adventurer who has gained a reputation for his pictures documenting wildlife in remote and dangerous jungle lands; despite the objections of his backers, Denham plans to film his next project aboard an ocean vessel en route to Skull Island, an uncharted island he discovered on a rare map. Correctly assuming his cast and crew would be wary of such a journey, Denham has told them they're traveling to Singapore, but before they set sail, his leading lady drops out of the project. V-Rexes... one of the most stunning action scenes in movie history. ten years later and i still can't believe an adventure movie of this scale and with such an iconic character was made. the whole background was mostly miniatures so the cgi artists focused their attention on the animals, so cool. this movie is enough to make me forgive Jackson for the awful Hobbit 3.

Looked this up to see if it still holds up all these years after watching Kong Skull Island and Godzilla vs Kong, yep, still an amazing movie and still an amazing scene. The only thing I'm not crazy about is King Kong's creature design. I like how the Monsterverse Kong looks like a mythical monster that resembles a Gorilla, wherein this one is just a giant Silverback.
I actually prefer that. The Kong in Skull Island is basically just a human and is done to make the CGI and motion capture easier. I love how this Kong actually moves like a giant gorilla. Feels more like an actual animal.

Why is it, in every Peter Jackson movie, the creatures are truly believable? Not only should we give credit to Peter Jackson, but also his team of animators he chose to hire for this task.
I would agree with you on King Kong, but maybe you should see the Hobbit if you want to see how far Jackson's CGI effects have fallen.

I don't have any problems with the special effects in this. The movie looks awesome in its entirety. For me the main problem lies in some big inconsistencies throughout the film, like Ann managing to survive a horrible situation like this (without a single wound) and the idea that those men managed to bring Kong from his island to a big city very distant from it (a feat which was conveniently hidden on screen).

It's cool how an amount of detail went into the dinosaurs in this scene. The one that got it's head smashed in by a boulder was the same one that Ann first came across back when she was getting attacked by a giant iguana thing (not in this video), the dinosaur that kong first attacked was also the last one to die and probably the biggest, and the one that came out from behind kong to make it a 3 vs 1 battle was killed in that cliff point.
I miss this movie, remember I was like 6 or 7 years old watching this movie while clinging and clutching to my dad. I miss him. But the only worst part in this movie is The gorilla die at the end. Y. Why do it had to die. 😭. Im upset. But still love this movie 💖

Amazing attention to detail that needs to be appreciated: the little pops when the T-rexes close their mouths is the sound of the air rushing out of their mouths due to the immense bite pressure. The same thing happens to crocodiles and alligators in real life.

We've only confirmed the bite force of a Tyrannosaurus Rex to be that strong, but V-Rex appears too different from T-Rex; head-shape, body shape, claw count, leg proportions, it's much more likely to have been a Carnosaur than a Tyrannosaur. The difference between the two is staggering; carnosaurs were built to be able to tear prey with sharp teeth, but since their prey was either too big to take down or too dumb to put up much of a fight when caught, they didn't need to develop an overpowered set of jaw muscles more so than they needed a skull that could withstand the bite force and teeth that could pierce through their prey's hide. They were built to hunt giant animals like the sauropods who grew so big that the only way they could eat a live one is for some to literally strip slices of flesh like bacon off of a living animal, thus preventing a need to make any killing blows to the neck or arms. So even though technically Kong should have bled to death by the time the fight was over, he still could have taken a V-Rex bite; it wouldn't have been nearly as deadly in terms of bite force. If it had been a T-Rex, however, the fight would have been over the moment the second one bit into his arm...

I hate that Kong struggles with V-rex so badly. Gorilla are one of the worlds top 10 strongest species, with silverback lifting roughly 2,000 kg. That is 30 human. Yet it semi struggles with these V-rex.

The reason ive come back to watch this scene a few times is that for some reason it seems to have a real feeling of weight being thrown around by these massive beasts. Also the sound really is top notch, when the dinosaurs are trying to bite and you hear that chomp it really feels like a big bite.

I think that they have ruined this film with this new remake.
awanderer this chi still holds up but the new Kongs chi looks so much better when compared to this I gotta say though sorry :(

Kong 2005 still my favorite but Kong SI is a good movie too. But talking about Kong itself ... the New Kong is my favorite, cos In some way they made Kong from Skull Island less invencible and more real in that aspect than PJ one, (putting aside the difference in size) for example: the fact that Kong was bleeding a lot, after attacked the helicopters and he needed to be saved by the humans in 2 different times. While Peter Jackson's Kong didn't bleed from this fight as the other one, for example that 1:40 V-Rex Bite that is easily above a Normal T-Rex Bite with 35,000 to 57,000 newtons at its back teeth. That's more than four times higher than past estimates and ten times as forceful as the bite of a modern alligator. He just show pain, no more.
Only James Newton Howard's score can make this look even more epic

Kong is supposed to be utilizing 25 000+ pounds of force with each arm, meaning that his fur, flesh and bones have to tolerate at least 50 000+ pounds of force each, likely even more than that, since he's been seen holding his whole body weight with one arm. And the T-rex bite is believed to have been around 12 800 pounds of force (these are V-rexes, by the way), so no, a T-rex bite would not be likely to bite Kong's arm off. And you can't really make such assumptions, because neither King Kong or the V-rex were real creatures. So you just don't know.

Chris Taylor Not T-Rex fan boys. Peter Jackson's King Kong fan boys. Jackson or someone from his technical crew named them that. It was originally Virtual Rex because they were computer generated versions of real dinosaurs. Eventually it changed to Vastasaurus Rex.

I just never understood why the T-Rexes (sp?) were so hell bent on eating this little tiny woman. All the energy they expended chasing this chick and fighting Kong for a bite size snack doesn't make sense, especially after one of them had already eaten another freakin' dinosaur.
Just like in Jurassic park 3, the T-REX is eating a dinosaur, sees a small group of people and pursuit them. Its like someone is eating a feast, sees a potato chip and does everything just to get it xD
