13 Reasons Your Car Loses Power Due to Misfire When Accelerating
When your car loses power while accelerating, it can be incredibly frustrating. In this in-depth video, I'll explain the 13 most common causes of car acceleration problems so you can get your vehicle running smoothly again.
Here are the key troubleshooting steps to fix sluggish car acceleration:
Fuel system components - Clogged fuel filters, failing fuel pumps, dirty injectors can restrict vital fuel flow under acceleration when the engine needs it most.
Air supply issues - A blocked air filter or intake leaks throws off the air-fuel ratio, undermining combustion.
Ignition system problems - Faulty spark plugs and bad ignition coils prevent proper firing of the cylinders.
Sensor failures - Malfunctioning camshaft, crankshaft, mass airflow (MAF), and oxygen sensors send incorrect data to the engine computer leading to timing issues, reduced power mode, and more.
Exhaust restrictions - Catalytic converter blockage and stuck Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves cause damaging backpressure, choking the engine.
Compression loss - Worn piston rings, leaking head gaskets, faulty valves reduce cylinder compression essential for generating power.
In addition, a PCM reset can help restore lost car acceleration by recalibrating the engine control module. Don't forget to read a detailed guide on troubleshooting car acceleration problems from the link below:

Hi Guys, please show some love by subscribing this channel. www.youtube.com/@AutocornerdPros
Thank you so much for a clear and detailed explanation. Much appreciated Richard (South Africa 🇿🇦)
Thank you really well made video.
Why do some mechanics always will tell you if your car is not accelerating it's the gear....you need to change the gear of your car....and in most cases when you do so your car start working properly maybe for a while or luckily you might start enjoying your car back again
Great job
I have 2018 Camry has no problem until 60 km/h after that when accelerating losing power times to times. When idling car very smooth, look like nothing wrong. Transmission could be a problem for this cause? New spark plugs installed and throotle body cleaned already. thanks.
Thank you I have learn something good from you
Great video thanks. 😊
Thanks. I am going to delete this channel as KZhead demonetized it for no reason.
Great job bro
AND ? AS IF WE DIDN'T KNOW !
Thank you for the very informative video. May I ask a question please, I have engine management intermittently on instrument panel. Car is Range Rover evoque, 2015 registration. Had many different diagnostics: (I personally have no problem with the car at all ) 1. EGR valve need a change 2. EGR good, but cooler need stuck in open position What is correct cause Thank you
You are rich go pay too fix it 😊
My 98 oldsmobile eighty eighty when the motor heats up it Wants to cut off , and sometimes I mash the gas and I don't have no power. Have to cut the motor off let it cool down than it will run good again , than it starts it all over again.
I appreciate your video well done. I have a 2006 dodge magnum 2.7l recently i noticed some hesitation at low speeds from a stopped position almost like somebody set the cruise control on and off and so forth a few days later it check engine light came on auto zone checked codes and it read P0404 egrsystem P700 trans (ml) and a low voltage system P0562. I watched some videos did some research and next morning wiggled some sensors connections and checked the air in let to throttle body and their electric connectors got in car ti start it and they were off. The guy mentioned a battery could throw these codes and in the last few weeks I did have to jump it for leaving doors open while I cleaned out inside at car wash and other time left lights on however it had been starting okay. When I took it to my dads who I take care of 100 miles away I had oil changed as it was needed I still felt hesitation and noticed around 1.5 rpm the car kinda does that hesitation thing like the cruise control feeling I mentioned but it does it alot and at 1 rpm occasionally at 2rpm it shifts hard. My dad has a dirt driveway that’s steep and sometimes it gets very close and I can hear the grass underneath the car. Is there some vacuum or connections down there easily displaced. In the last few months I have heard a vacuum sound coming from somewhere. The car does have a sealed transmission Please respond with any suggestions
Also need to addd that rpm intermittent shifting or mild jerking if you will I notice around say 40mph however I feel it at other times and getting bad gas mileage
It might have vacuum leaks, you can perform smoke test or spray carb cleaner over engine bay when it is running to test vacuum leaks

on my 1987 Honda CRX, i found out just how sensitive it was to the heat range on the spark plugs. too hot and it would start misfiring after a full throttle pull through first until the plugs cooled down.
Are they OEM?
@@Autocornerd492 there's two different heat ranges listed for OEM NGK spark plugs. Most parts stores get them mixed up and easy to end up with the wrong ones
I got a 2001 that idles high, but when I put it in gear and drive, it gets sluggish but when I get to a steady speed it runs fine, just when I'm driving slow it runs like crap. Any idea where to start? I've replaced all coil packs and plugs, fuel injectors and a few other things. And unfortunately the obd doesn't work so I can't run a code on it
Did you check idle air control valve, throttle body, air filter, vacuum leaks?
Thanks for the lecture, 1) Please sir my car doesn't start one hand i have to crack and crack and crack before it will start, Secondly, 2) the car goes off when am acceleration and about to clam a speed bomb the car will not accelerat again, i need to start the car again before i can accelerate, Please what's the cause if it, thanks
Did you scan trouble codes?
My fiat palio lose power when i left my feet on accelerator then i turn the key off and on it back again till i left my feet and go on
Any code on scanner?
❤
Good ideas but I would have mentioned, out of fuel, for one. Everything you mentioned are good points but don't overthink it try the simple/cheap things first. Common problems could happen but more common problems will happen.
You are right. Always start with the most simple things for diagnosis
👍👍👍
when driving my car loses power and gain back power what could be cause that ?
Hey, can you please tell exact situation?
Same here but now no error code. After sometime it totally failed. It has a 2-9 code. Looks like a wiring issue as the other time it was the same. Probably the TPS wire got frayed again after 6months
My car has no power I did plugs and now it has a misfire but no check engine light.
Bad throttle body give it a good clean
@@swimwithcoachraven1532 I've been thinking the Throttle body is going bad the limp mode does flash as I'm starting my car and when I'm driving it feels like something is holding the car back it used to take off real fast once in awhile. When I would be going down the hwy.
Tida car have dis problem
My Toyota Allex is loosing power
Did you scan codes?
My toyota Epsom won't start
Does it crank or not
Number 14 reason no power. No more new car smell. Time for a new car.
How about changing evrything?can be this can be that thubs down
Your rude nobody can diagnose exact answers why even bother at least he’s taken time to give ideas appreciate that he took the time
My ford figo is loosing power
Hi, i have explained different causes in video. Did you check?
