In my last video, we destroyed a planet. And whilst it took a while but we got there in the end. However, an overwhelming large number of people in the comments asked if next time, I could do it in one shot. Destroy an entire planet in one shot.
Now, I didn’t think it was possible and I’m still not sure that it is, however, I am a man of the people and the people asked so they will receive.
So, watch this video to find out how I do this!

Space Engineers is a voxel-based sandbox game set in space and on planets, developed and published by Czech independent developer Keen Software House. In 2013, the initial developmental release of the game joined the Steam early access program. During the following years of active development, Space Engineers sold over one million units. In total as of 2019 the game has sold over 3.5 million copies In May 2015, for approximately a year and a half, the game's source code was officially available and maintained by KSH to assist the modding community. On December 15, 2016, the game entered Beta and was later officially released on February 28, 2019.
The game is a sandbox game about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Players build space ships, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses, pilot ships and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources to survive.

The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force
Yeah? Keep coping Vader
Nihilus casually snacking planets left and right
But the Force is insignificant next to the ownership of a PC that enables SE to do this without going up in flames instantly.
@Zer0sLegion Utilizing the force you could likely get away with simply removing all life from a planet and still have nonliving resources available.
Don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerous ways, lord vader
should be a mod that delete the planet and replace by an asteroid cloud. That would be more realistic I guess
You can already do that with the worlds admin controls. You just have to select the planet, memorize it's coordinates, delete it, and the manually Spawn a bunch of asteroids in the area. There just isn't a way to attach it to a weapon that I know of.
What if you make a weapon that shoots asteroids
@@johngerken4263 that's the problem. You'll lose the immersion whit you open the adm panel. It should be possible but I don't know C# (or c++) to make so I let the Idea here.
@@johngerken4263Same could be said of basically anything. Your solution takes longer, and is less cool than having it be triggered by some weapon.
@@windam.mk.4.340Not possible. Not in the way you probably mean, anyways. You'd need a fake asteroid (probably copy/pasting an asteroid model on top of a missile with stupid high explosion radius) or something, voxels can't be moved and even if you could, they wouldn't collide with other voxels.
I've messed around with this mod, and I found out that when the explosion happens on the ground, it only destroys the bottom 10-20% of the actual voxel damage. You put that thing underground, and it destroys SO much more.
That is how explosions work, yes
This would be really cool if you had a Solar System with randomly generated Planets spawning in
It would just be one less planet I guess
@Zer0sLegion if you were to/have done this (allowing planetoids to spawn like asteroids) to reduce lag I'd have a check for in atmospheric circle for voxel count and if voxels =/< a limit of your choosing, delete gravity and atmospheric fields
Just like… a huge infinitely(or just like 50 planets) generating, and having a full planet cracker for the sole purpose of dominance.
An advice from someone who lives in a hot country: keep your windows open at night preferably in the opposite sides of the house with a clear path to each other. If they are at different hights its optimal as it will cool the house for you. In the morning close everything up and draw your curtains. This will slow down the rate of your house heating up. (Depending on the curtains as long as those arent the transparent ones)
That or AC.
AC costs money, cool night air is free. Also AC isn't available in most European homes as the climate here didn't require it.
@esprit101 A/C here in the states is a standard requirement. It doesn't matter where you live here be it the burning hellscape of Arizona or in the freezing lands of Alaska. All modern homes are required to have heating and air. Also, there are these things called windows units... if you live in a house that doesn't have A/C you can always install a temporary one until yours is either fixed or a permanent one is installed or keep the temporary one forever.
@@moviemaker2011z i mean if they require that in every single place I'm sorry but the build quality must be horrible. Like in a good home ideally you wouldn't need AC. There's plenty of ways to make houses more efficient
@@thefewer5139 AC is needed if your house has poor insulation or is not adapted to the climate you're on.
This gives me a great idea for a mod: "The Gravel Gun" A sort of recreation of a weapon system the old and great BSGO game had(and the revive attempt by the fanbase probably has), a gun that uses small rocks as projectiles to mine asteroids (it was basically a low range/dps weapon only needing energy to shoot. Here in SE it could be remade as a small scale anti voxel autocannon using refined gravel (to get rid of that, also you can't use regular gravel as far as i know in SE) to clear voxels blocking ore deposits at range or lightly damage opponents. Has anyone the curage to make one mod like that ?
I remember reading a story of someone who made a gravity cannon using stone that could pen modded armor
@@socallmekarl4014 or using artificial mass and you found out how i build my rapid fire weapons of mass destruction
@@socallmekarl4014the funny rock gun was the meta back in the day. Just slap a dozen gravity generators with a big rock or some explosives and you could delete just about anything.
There's a theoretical space weapon similar to that that uses sand or particles of nuclear material launched at near relativistic speeds. The fun part with launching the nuclear sand close to light speed is that the kinetic energy causes fission upon impact creating millions of tiny nuclear bombs
@@johnfeistner467Ah, war crimes in a less Anakin friendly package.
Your reaction to the code was funny, especially for how easy and simple it looked, but then again I am a programmer myself (but even still that look simple)
I'm a programmer too, I just know people on YT have a very short attention span so if there's not an explosion on screen for a few minutes they start to get agitated 😜
I wouldn't even consider XML to be code... it's not like you can write a program in it and compile it. It's just a data container with specific formatting.
Same here. People just don't appreciate the finer things in life (although JSON would have been a welcome sight)
I've seen JSON usually more in things that send things over the internet. I see XML more in game development (i only have experience with game development in C# so that might be why)
@@AmatMNI have actually seen a game use JSON for settings and data structure before. Scrap Mechanic uses JSON instead of XML for a lot of its internal files. (and consequently, its modding system also uses a bunch of JSON files)
I for one love the ultra loud explosions of the nukes, adds a bit of realism to it. Plus, i just like to use them for a self-destruct mechanism on my super large ships. Also, a prerequisite mod for the nukes is the bigger explosions mod, which works by combining multiple explosions together into one bigger explosion (which is probably where the bugginess comes from). So you can bunch together a whole lot thermo-nukes and get something similar to what you saw in the video. There's still a cap to it, but still.
You can raise the cap which is what I did for the video. My problem isn't that they're loud, it's that they're way louder, regardless of range, than everything else in the game. Like, why can I hear the nuke, at full volume, in the vacuum of space?
is realistic in atmosphere, not in vacuum, and yeah a little too loud
Read this comment and thought "There is no sound in freaking vacuum so throw your realism out of the window.", then saw the answers and disappointed thought "Ahhhh, dammit someone was faster correcting him -.-"
@@Zer0sLegion how you raise the cap ?...i try it but i dont now what to do pls help
Sometimes, it is just really nice to watch massive explosions engulf an entire planet.
i think damage is how much damage against grids is generated as opposed to just voxels which might have their own script for damage based explosions
Voxels do have a damage threshold but it's below the damage the missiles do so it's fine.
I personally love the nuke mod. Great for scuttling charges for your ship.
Yeah, I may have blown up Starkiller once or twice.
"You can't just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars" - Samuel Hayden
I haven't watched the entire video yet, but I believe I know what's going on with Explosion Damage and Explosion Radius. Just a feeling. Radius determines the maximum size of an explosion, EI how far out it can deal damage from its center. Damage determines how much damage an explosion can deal within its radius. If the radius is only 5 meters, no matter how much damage the explosion deals, it can't spread outside that 5 meters. If the explosion could do infinite damage, it would destroy every single block inside its radius every time. Therefore, Explosion Radius is the one that would allow you to potentially affect an entire planet, but it would only do so if it had the damage to back it up and destroy every block.

I always wondered whether or not Space Engineers has its own version of far lands. The engine should break at some giant distance from the center but I don't know where and how this happens. Considering that this is 64 bit game, this distance may be extremely far away and it also may not contain any spectacular terrain because every planet and asteroid have its own voxel grid
In theory, the further you go, the less accurate the physics would be but it would be so far that it would be difficult to actually experience.
I'm playing on official server from Keen and it can drop you 5,6 light seconds from Earthlike. It's almost 1,7 mln km and everything was fine with engine.
@@Zarentha Yeah, i've been way further than that with no issues as well.
@@ZarenthaThat's weird. At that distance, you shouldn't even be able to move. As an American I can confirm that 28C is only 82F. To put into perspective to all the people in the UK it is currently 34.5C with a heat index of 38.3C where I’m at currently. 28C would be a good day to go out and walk around town.
🚨Whoop whoop🚨It's the weather police🚨 Hello my friend, I live in the United kingdom where it is cold and rainy 95% of the year. This isn't 28 degrees outside, this is 28 degrees in my office, which raised to a 34 before the end of the recording. This is not a comfortable temperature for most people in the world and especially in the UK. Additionally, due to all the rain it is very humid in the UK, so high temperatures feel hotter than they do in countries that are normally hot. We also don't have AC in the UK so we have no way cool down our homes during the heat so high temperatures are also less bearable over here. Thank you for understanding that different people in different parts of the world are different based on differences in their environment.
As an American I get an average temp of 18c (about 65f) in the summer, It use to rain a lot more though. 30c would have me dying
I've been to death valley in the middle of summer. I've been to far northern Canada and driven on frozen lakes. I've been in tropical rainforests in the summer and temperate areas. I live where we get 70 inches of snow a year and some years much more. Yet l've never been anywhere people don't bitch about the weather. 😂

New Objective "Shoot a Hole into Mars"
I got a challenge how fast can you mine a planet bare, and retain all that materials. The goal is to get mine as fast as possible within the base game stuff no mods, and how much materials can you get from the mining. There is no limit on the amount of ships, amount of Player help, nor limit on size of ship, so long as it's vanilla. For practice you could use the same world you already have in these videos. Will it take a day, will it take half day, a quarter of the day, couple of hours less then 30 minutes?
Well, if I can get other people to do it for me, then that makes it easier. I'll just sit and watch😜

Still would like to see the rail gun manage it. It would take some doing, and be a semi massive project but could you just position railguns around the planet and have each one go off after a set period of time so that they hit the planet with very little time in between thus bypassing the explosion limit. Or just make a ship that can eat the planet. Yum!!
I need someone to raise the explosion limit really, there's no way of doing it with multiple railguns.

You can using the 2CM lasers mod and, i think its called the Bigger explosions mod? I made what I call the "Archimedes Cannon" and mounted it on a custom-made ship I built for it, that did the trick.
Bigger explosions requires mods to use it's framework to achieve bigger explosions, like the nuke mod I was using does.
Bro that nuke going off jeez
So, you destroyed the future of the planet in one blast. ...It just took a bit for the reality to set in. Well done.
I still want to make a mining drill that is able to mine straight through the planet. I made a nice Mining rig and platform, that uses a script to control the drill, but couldn't find out how to make a blueprint for the rig that also builds more of the rail it moves along, and then moves down to it. I can probably do that now, which I will try, but it was the last part I needed to complete to finish the drill... that and speed up the refineries, as they produce planets worth of iron, silicon, and nickel, yet also take slightly longer to process than the drill can mine... which tends to stop it an hour into mining and require a manual restart so it finishes the mining segment.
So the real death star is an autonomous station for creating and launching thermonuclear missiles?
Spreading the railguns across the face of the ORB would-could spread the explosions, spreading the damage and making sure more voxels are affected.
As a programmer, I find it funny that at 1:03, that's not even a real script. It's just a modified XML configuration file for the missle. Lol

I would actually assume that the radius IS the radius, but the damage is either lessened with distance from the centerpoint, or distributed/subtracted from any dirt it eats through. Possibly both.
We tested that in the video and proved that wasn't the case.

Great video !
Glad you enjoyed it
3:15 both are made for measuring different things, from 0-to-100. With F you’re measuring between the most common actual natural temperatures of very-cold and very-hot (I know, so imprecise, isn’t it?) and unless you’ve got real world problems you’re not going to see beyond that. It literally just tells you how cold-or-hot it is outside, on a scale of 0-to-100. While with C you’re measuring all temperatures between the freezing and boilings points of water at sea level (which is a much nicer definition, than some arbitrary *feeling* point on either end of the scale). But if you get to 100 you’ve been dead for a while, and you regularly see the negatives in winter; it’s much better for scientific notation. We Americans are too stupid in general to use a more complicated scale, we like bigger numbers, and we disagree so much with each other that we *need* twice the amount of degrees to argue over. Though at least we aren’t using K to depict livable weather. 0-to-100 with K is a whole lot of DEAD- that scale’s for wildly low temperatures, and nothing else. I myself use metric over imperial, because it’s a better system for base-ten measurements of distance; and I use F over C, because it’s a better system for base-ten measurements of temperature🤷♂️. If our distance measurements are so bad (I agree, they’re pretty bad), then why are *your* temperature measurements so bad? They literally have the *same* problem. Though admittedly to different extents. X-x- EDIT : though if you’re interested, 0 to 100 F = (about) -17 to 37 C (it *isn’t* a nice round conversion). That’s a scale where the bottom is very-cold, and the top is very-hot (unless you’re in a particular *violent* part of the world, or having a particularly *bad* week). And it’s almost-but-not-quite a 2:1 conversion, offset by 32; so if you’re willing to accept a bit of variance, and you don’t have access to Google, do [F-32/2=C] OR [C*2+32=F]. It’s almost right for all you’ll ever need it for, and much easier than multiplying fractions in your head [C = *exactly* F-32*5/9].
I just find it funny that America is one of 3 countries in the world to use Fahrenheit and one of the others is an ex-american vassal state.
An interesting project would be to combine the Kinetik Devastation mod, which I think uses the same explosion system as the nukes, with a lightspeed mod, and then try to build a planet cracker by accelerating an object to relativistic speeds before slamming it into the surface.
The explosion radius of that mod is the same as the nukes, I would be the same amount of damage.
