    • @@bugsmoney1264 You do get to the bag quicker than if you slowed down standing up though. The lay down increases your drag much more than you can generate with feet alone, so you can go full speed over a larger percentage of the travel path. The reason it's not done at first is because hitting a ball and running to first is significantly slower than any baserunning. For that reason, players are allowed to overrun first base as long as they turn right to indicate that they're not going to try and take more bases. Without this rule, most infield hits would result in throw outs and the game would be much more boring.

  • If that's legal then they need to update the rules because that's really dangerous and maybe even intentionally malicious. Maybe they should take some inspiration from roughing the passer in football, where a foul may be called if the physical acts are "unwarranted by the circumstances of the play". Sliding that far past the bag into a player who isn't in a position to defend themselves and after you're already forced out would certainly qualify as unwarranted, in my opinion.

    • If he wanted to hurt him, he would have. He was trying to break up a possible double play, something all baseball players are taught to do.

    • It is, I'm surprised I haven't seen this anywhere here and Jomboy didn't mention it, but you're taught to go in and break up a slide with spikes down. Cleats up and into the leg like that is just dirty baseball. It's trying to hurt him within the rules, if you go in spikes up, you're trying to hurt someone or you don't know how to slide.

      @Alexander_Grant@Alexander_Grant22 күн бұрын
  • Something people are forgetting about the "late" slide part is Rhys is a bigger guy that missed most of last year with a leg injury. Guy probably hasnt slid much in the last 12 months. As a bigger guy myself when I slid in softball i often over estimated how close to the bag i needed to be when i went for it
