Anne is the QUEEN of grudge holding. In the book this scene happens 3 years after the “Carrots” incident. And she continues to not talk to him/be his friend for another 2 years. That’s FIVE YEARS. It says in the book at she forgave him in her heart when he saved her, but because of her pride she just refused to talk to him. I actually think she liked the rivalry with him. It was easier for her to be his rival who she wouldn’t talk to than to be his friend.

Anne was a world class jerk, and Gilbert had world class patience. Calling her "carrots" was not cool, but he immediately tried to take the blame for her outburst, for crying out loud. She *smashed a slate* over his head, screaming like a banshee at him, and he *still* didn't want her to get in trouble on his account. Pride or no pride, Anne was *horrible* to him, and the fact that Gilbert not only put up with it, but persisted in trying to win her over is a massive testament to his character.

Ever. I love the part in the movie when he ignores her at the Christmas ball. She deserved that so much! Such a whiny baby. She seriously needed to chill out .

What makes Anne annoying is the same thing that makes her likeable. She is proud and it is that pride that prevents her from outwardly forgiving Gilbert on the spot here. As much as we all want to say we would act differently, there are plenty of everyday spats and occurrences that we may never apologize for. Also to be fair... she is only about 13 here and she was already a really emotional girl haha. When I was that age and angry or upset about something, I cried and I hated crying in front of people so I would rather seem rude than burst into tears XD

Modern ideas of what and should be or not what Anne. Anne was highly feminine and dainty, she’s a practical princess overall, minus her brief learning curve as a young child. The Sullivan production is the best by far.

My grade 5 teacher was obsessed with Anne of green gables and had the whole collection on DVD so every Friday towards the end of the day we would watch Anne of green gables and when we finished watching it (it would take a few months since we watched it in parts) we would start over.

I am just sad that the producers messed the last movie up so much. I wish they’d have stayed true to script and made a movie for every book.

I’ve seen many versions of Anne of Green Gables and the 80s version is my one and only favorite. I read all the books as a kid. It’s not that the others weren’t any good, I simply felt the 80s version captured the heart and soul of the novels and characters the best. I include the scenery as a character too. Next to Anne, the scenery is as much a part of the story as she is. Anyone who ever read LM Montgomery’s novels would agree. All the actors were perfectly cast, and let’s be honest, could there ever be a more perfect Gilbert Blythe than Jonathan Crombie?! I don’t think so. RIP Jonathan Crombie the good ones leave us too soon.

Seeing the clips from this version of Anne Of Green Gables and it's sequel brings back really fond memories for me. I got them on video as a Christmas present when I was a kid and would watch them all the time, I think a big part of the reason I loved these movies so much was that I could really relate to Anne as I was a lot like her when I was growing up.

Nate Anderson It’s not just him, it’s how Canadians say it. I am Canadian too and I never even noticed until an American (with whom I work) told me. And I thought “oh yeah! We *do* say it differently.” So interesting. I still don’t get how Americans call the roof, the “ruff”. It’s roooof! Lol

Anne is the QUEEN of grudge holding. In the book this scene happens 3 years after the “Carrots” incident. And she continues to not talk to him/be his friend for another 2 years. That’s FIVE YEARS. It says in the book at she forgave him in her heart when he saved her, but because of her pride she just refused to talk to him. I actually think she liked the rivalry with him. It was easier for her to be his rival who she wouldn’t talk to than to be his friend.
Anne was a world class jerk, and Gilbert had world class patience. Calling her "carrots" was not cool, but he immediately tried to take the blame for her outburst, for crying out loud. She *smashed a slate* over his head, screaming like a banshee at him, and he *still* didn't want her to get in trouble on his account. Pride or no pride, Anne was *horrible* to him, and the fact that Gilbert not only put up with it, but persisted in trying to win her over is a massive testament to his character.
I would’ve gotten over it within that very day.

What makes Anne annoying is the same thing that makes her likeable. She is proud and it is that pride that prevents her from outwardly forgiving Gilbert on the spot here. As much as we all want to say we would act differently, there are plenty of everyday spats and occurrences that we may never apologize for. Also to be fair... she is only about 13 here and she was already a really emotional girl haha. When I was that age and angry or upset about something, I cried and I hated crying in front of people so I would rather seem rude than burst into tears XD

I love this series so much. There isn't another "Anne of Green Gables" that can capture Sullivan's sweet characters from the books. Thank God for Sullivan providing this great mini series.

The Sullivan production is the best by far.

My grade 5 teacher was obsessed with Anne of green gables and had the whole collection on DVD so every Friday towards the end of the day we would watch Anne of green gables and when we finished watching it (it would take a few months since we watched it in parts) we would start over.

I’ve seen many versions of Anne of Green Gables and the 80s version is my one and only favorite. I read all the books as a kid. It’s not that the others weren’t any good, I simply felt the 80s version captured the heart and soul of the novels and characters the best. I include the scenery as a character too. Next to Anne, the scenery is as much a part of the story as she is. Anyone who ever read LM Montgomery’s novels would agree. All the actors were perfectly cast, and let’s be honest, could there ever be a more perfect Gilbert Blythe than Jonathan Crombie?! I don’t think so. RIP Jonathan Crombie the good ones leave us too soon.
My favorite scene of them is the end of the first movie when they're talking and he touches her cheek and calls her carrots. It's like she gets it then, "OH, Gilbert...likes...me" lol
