For this wood carving, I just used a scrap of walnut that I had laying around.
No fancy rotary carver, just a basic Dremel 1000 with a flex-shaft attachment (a must!) which really helps with maneuvering.
Sanding drum bits to rough out the shape, followed by ball, cylinder, and cone shaped carbide burs for most of the carving. These were given to me, but decent carbide burs can run for $5 a piece or more. For finer details and smoothing out the rough parts I used ball and cone shaped diamond tip burs (very cheap, $2ish from Walmart for 6 of them)
To finish up, I used 220 grit sandpaper on the shark to really smooth him out. Not nearly as much on the water, as I wanted it to remain textured and knew I'd be coating it heavily with the gloss polyurethane.
Covered the water in masking tape, sprayed him with matte poly, took the tape off and brushed on the oil-based (thicker) gloss poly.
All in an on-and-off months work!

Not sure what’s better, your craftsmanship and creativity, or your sense of humor and witty banter. 👍🏼 Nonetheless it’s great!
This is the best example of dremel sculpting I have seen on the youtubes.
This man is a legit genius.
How nice to see some woodwork that doesn't require loads of kit and massive machines in order to produce something amazing. Keep going
Thank you! Gotta use what you have, right? I would prefer a better carver, but this one still definitely gets the job done!
I like your wooden spatula crafts.
God has given this man an incredible gift, this is amazing to see
That was *EPIC*
Great Job ROSS..you got some patience. Can't wait to see what's next
Glad to see safety indication in the vid.
Nice job 😎
I get a lot of joy out of watching other peoples' creativity. Our skills are so incredibly varied!
That was cool. Would like to see more carvings like this.
Thank you! 😊

Great work and a good video cut in combination with the music! 👍👍👍 Take care and stay healthy
Too funny, love the background music!
Love your delivery in the opening; un-sureness presentation, the getting into the art. Too funny
Love it - you nailed it.
Crafty, good looking, and so funny I love the shark
Aw, thank you for the compliments! 😊😊

Thank you!! Lots of background commentary in the one I'm finishing up 😊

Thank you Ed!! 😁
Young master, I’m hoping you’re turning serious coin for your one of a kind art work. Beautifully done.
Thank you so much Stephen! 😊
I think when you posted the picture of the pieces rubber banded together, I guessed it was a fairy house...I was so wrong! Love the shark! My favorite thing is when the varnish goes on and the wood transforms!
Thank you!! Yeah I figured I'd use matte AND gloss to give some contrast 😊
Simply stunning...
Who the hell are the 137 people that gave this a thumbs down? This guy is awesome!!
Wow!! Amazing!
True talent!
Very good work!
Hey Ross, You didn't nail it, you sunk your teeth into it! Love to see a guy rip into his work. Gets the juices flowing. Blood pumping. Nice work! I just started getting into power carving, as I found a source of kiln dried assorted hardwood in the log and really want to carve it, but my Pfeils aren't up to the red oak. So six bucks worth of firewood was the excuse to.... finally buy a Foredom TX, which I've been wanting for about 35 years. Could have bought a bunch of basswood for the price of the Foredom, but it's amazing and I'm getting inspiration from the hardwood, even if the really pretty stuff is like carving concrete with grain. Glad I found your channel. Subbed. Carve on!
Amazing great work
Great work and nice music I love all your work 😎👍🏻👍🏻
His voice is so calming. This is the. Kind of drug that makes me happy

I learned alot in only 11 minutes!thank you so much
Very nice!👍
You sir are incredibly talented. Thank you for the inspiration and this channel!
You can teach anyone to do the work that you did on your carving, but you can not teach the vision that you possess. It is a skill that sets you apart from a lot of artists (yes, woodcarving is an art) and is something to be proud of. Thank you for sharing and awesome work!
Thank you for the kind words Marshall! I agree, and that's what is great about art - no two people will have the same vision 😊
I love the detail. Adding that second row of teeth really made it look more menacing.
Thanks dude! Was very hesitant, but glad I did it!
Loved it.
Loved it!
Super cool and awesome looking
Thank you Michael!! 😊
awesome job
Really cool carving!
Thank you Jolien! 😊 It's about time for another video, should be up this weekend!
Good work👍
I wish you had more videos, but it would take me eons for some of these projects you do. Hope to see an upload soon. 🤘👍
Thanks Brandon! It would definitely be easier and quicker if I weren't filming it lol. But that's half the fun!
This is very inspiring. Minimal tools and a creative mind. Gives that, "anyone can do this" vibe. Perfect for people who can't afford to buy the expensive machines and tools.
Thank you so much! That is my intention, as I've only done a handful of carvings myself. Sometimes even I'm unsure of my own abilities, but we're all capable of accomplishing much more than we think 😉
I definitely like the vids where you commentate more than when you don't. Keep up the great stuff :D
Thank you! Really glad to hear that 😊
I appreciate your craft
I appreciate your support! 😊
Love it! I am in awe of carvers because it takes a definite talent to know what to cut away and what to leave. AWESOME!
Thank you so much, Sue! 😊
Fantastic!
I love this guy's humor. So true and without any annoying scripted shits. Its realistic.
Thank you so much! 😊 It's actually a bit of a challenge adding humor while also being genuine. Still working on my camera presence, but I find it helps to pretend my camera is just a person. Essentially, it is 😉
I absolutely love your work! I cannot get enough of the popsicle jokes
Haha thank you so much, man! 😁
Выглядит круто!
Absolutely love it great work ❤
Thank you Ian!!
As someone who does a lot of work with power tools - the phrase "A dremel's all you need," has become somewhat of a catchphrase for me
Once again....BRILLIANT!!!! Starting a binge-watch now.
That is incredible! Hate think about hours spent & the number of sanding drums you used. Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed day.
