On this week's episode of the podcast, freeCodeCamp founder Quincy Larson interviews Kass Moreno, a Senior Front End Developer and CSS Artist.
Kass started learning coding at age 28 and has since built a reputation as one of the most skilled artists who work with CSS.
We talk about:
Her childhood in Mexico and in Texas
Making the hard decision to drop out of architecture school
Her dreadful years working as a salesperson
Learning from freeCodeCamp and doing the 100DaysOfCode challenge
Getting freelance clients and expanding her skills
Her rapid career growth as a developer
Can you guess what bass line I'm playing on my bass during the intro? It's a 1982 pop classic.

  • Thanks you so much for your testimony. And your creations are great 🎉 I'm 50 and just getting my diploma in infography and I'm so proud to have finally found something that I feel really belongs to me. I had a lot of violence in my youth and grow thinking I have no hope and no point to be in this world. Had my children and just surviving but I always knew I dad easy-going with computers and technology but always thinking I'm not capable of anything. I worked hard in manufacture until someone dropped a wooden forklift extension in my head and got crânien trauma. I had to start over again to find in myself what the heck I'm gonna do. After months of recuperation and orientation... I decided to put confidences in myself and go for what really light me up. 4 weeks later I was at infography school for 2 years. I had only 100% in my exam and my last exam is next Tuesday. Can't wait. I think I'll take a web design class too... I love all this. Thanks for your inspiration ❤

  • I'm sort of a smart guy, and adept at db programming in Filemaker Pro. I've made numerous attempts to learn HTML and CSS, and have failed utterly. The idea that Kass Moreno could pull this off is mystifying to me. She has more respect than I have to give (which is all) for her ability and achievement. And kudos to freeCodeCamp for creating and being the inspiration for so many thousands of new software programmers to humanity.
