  • I got a pit bull from the shelter that was supposedly aggressive towards other animals. Her cage had a warning sign which I’m sure would’ve ruined her chances to get adopted. That dog was the nicest dog I’ve ever had. She made friends with all the strangers at the house. My long haired chihuahua on the other hand bit people’s ankles and barked nonstop. BTW that pit bull ended up living with other dogs.

Afterwards owning two wonderful pitbulls, I fell in love with the breed ,they are loving and loyal dogs who want nothing more than to be around their families. • Yup I think it's a lot less aggression and a lot more prey drive, that being said I support the banning of pits, they can be amazing dogs but they are waaay too accessible and way to easily abused. I'd rather they are limited to professional breeders and serious owners rather than any thug or kid with 15$ to spare. They can be great dogs but they are Way too overrepresented and simultaneously under represented I think the breed needs to take a step back for some serious breed control and rebranding.

Most people nowadays can't be bothered to train a Chihuahua much less a 60lb pit, I'd rather we not have them when they'll more than likely end up abused or blamed for owners negligence, they don't have a specific purpose anymore anyway so personally I'd rather they were restricted to serious owners or just done with.

    • I agree on the most part of what you are saying other than needing money to train a pitbull. In my OPINION if an owner isn’t willing to put in the time to train their own dog or realize their dog’s personality and if their dog has a high pray drive. No amount of training from a stranger will help. If you can’t put in the time to watch and take care of a powerful dog like a pitbull or any working dog you just shouldn’t have it.

      @Garvage@Garvage9 ай бұрын
    • The problem is the statistics are not clear whatsoever because the way in which the data is collected is lazy and incomplete at best. If every time a lab mix bit somebody they put it down as a lab their numbers would be completely skewed as well. Not to mention the person that classifies the dog and almost all scenarios is the news reporter who obviously is going to call the dog a pitbull to get more clicks and views. I could go on all day but it is what it is. Almost all dog trainers agree (and they don't agree on much) that pitbulls are misunderstood.

They're owned a tenth of what other dogs are but they are responsible for 60% of bite fatalities. So they're 6 times more likely to kill another animal than any other breed. As big moe said, they're bred to do that. Let's not beat around the bush. They're bred to do it and they're good at it. Plain and simple.

They are one of the most lovable family pets, but as you have said are so full of energy that very few are capable to withstand their stamina to play and run. My first time of meeting a pitbull was in 1986 in my home town when an old friend of mine brought back home his dog Bruno from the States and I was astounded by the dog's playfull and loveble character! • Years ago I started watching that pitbull rescue show on animal planet and seriously considered making the trip down to New Orleans Via Lobos rescue once my old girl passes. But just before COVID an abandoned, aged, arthritic and emaciated pitbulls wandered into my life. Vet thought she was likely abandoned to die in the snow. That dog was skin and bones, and could hardly walk, but when she really wanted to she had the raw power needed to drag me. I had her for 6 months. She was a sweet wonderful dog. I decided for the sake of the dog that I couldn't adopt a pot bull because I don't have the physical strength required to restrain a pit in their prime.

It was from a lab, but in defense of the lab, I had been told not to climb into his car and force my affection on him. He was an old dog and I was 3 and snuck out when my parents weren't looking. I was nearly bitten in the face by a Jack Russell terrier too.

At the time, we had new neighbors who moved in (3 houses down from ours) and who owned a Pitbull mix and it got out from the gate. The Pitbull came towards my husband and began to sniff our dog which was leashed. The neighbor yelled out, he's fine...he won't hurt a fly...the same old pathetic story. I get so angry hearing the same thing from Pitbull owners and their so called lovable pets (who raised/trained them right and in loving homes). My husband was going to pick up Einstein when the Pitbull suddenly sank its teeth into the neck of our fur baby...snapped the leash and took off with our lifeless dog in its mouth. My husband chased the Pitbull down towards the neighbor's house...trying to get our dog, not realizing he was already gone. The Pitbull then turned and attacked my husband (who survived). I will never get over this tragedy and I cannot imagine if I had lost my husband in the attack. I am still haunted by the story of Kirsten Bernard and her 2 young children's death. I don't understand it, never will. How many times, of the same story, does it take for people to get it through their heads about this breed? How many more lives are going to be lost to this breed? Since Feb 2024, Pitbulls have killed 101 Americans in the last 37 months... an average of nearly three a month (ref: Animals-24-7). It makes me sick.

But, I also know ANY of them, at any point, can decide they don't want to be around other dogs. I've had plenty that lived their entire lives with other dogs & did absolutely fine ! But, have also had others that were raised indoors, socialized daily, trained, and still matured & couldn't be around other dogs anymore. I've had pits that wouldn't even fight back if another dog attacked & have had pits that would go after anything on 4legs just because they could see it .. Even some of my pits that grew up with peaceful, friendly, old dogs and got along with everyone, still woke up one day & just couldn't be around the other dogs anymore.. no other dogs did anything to them, nothing changed, the dog just matured & it's genetics took over. Yes, sometimes you can work with the dog & bring them out of it again, but not always.. The bloodlines matter too

The moment i got my first pit after research and prep, i brought my sweet girl home. She was terrified of my bearded dragon and little kitten, but absolutely adored the children of my appartment. I always educate those willing to approach us and let them give her a treat to learn that pits aren't as what media portrays. 💚 Of a lot of the dogs I've trained(im not a professional its my own personal dogs) from pit to Chihuahua i adore the pit the most!

  • I’ve wanted to try and own another dawg, but pit bulls are just too great of a breed. Both my daughters were brought home to different pits and both times were such an amazing experience. First daughter my dawg was twirling around in circles with excitement, told him to calm down and he sat right down wanting to see her, I lowered her down and he kept looking to me to make sure everything was okay, liked at her feet and looked that it was okay, set her in her crib and he licked the side of the crib and laid right down by the crib and didn’t move! 2nd daughter we had a 8 week old puppy and she laid right down around her head, didn’t try to lick and just stayed by the baby! At 8 weeks she already knew that was her baby and she took the best care of her for her whole life. Truly amazing animals and ESPECIALLY with kids

  • Thank you for the tip on giving meds. I never heard the one of blowing on the nose until they lick. I have a pittie named Milo. He is exactly like Apollo, just a big goofball. He loves everything except the neighbor kid. 6 yr. Old that has never been disciplined loves to hit dogs with whatever is in his hand. I was working on my motor today, and this kid was around. Milo tries to avoid him, which is unusual for Milo. Next thing I hear is that milo gives a warning bark, and this kid is poking him in the mouth with a dust pan. So i had to stop it and bring milo inside. The parents won't hear anything negative about their kid. So i just said that he is no longer aloud to come over or be around milo. And of course, im the bad guy. But im not going to let it get worse. I dont know what else to do. Thanks, though your videos have been a huge help in raising Milo.

  • We first fostered our pittie almost two months ago and ended up adopting her because she ‘adopted’ us first. We couldn’t giver her up because we just fell in love with her. She gets just as excited and is as loving as Apollo. (She has the nickname Thumper because of how hard her tails wag.) Right now she doesn’t do well with other animals but we are in the process of training her with the basics and she has made progress where she won’t just run to chase a cat and if we are on walks, she will walk away and still heel with me. She’s about 2, so we are not sure of her past and previous owners, but I know how loving and special she is. She is great with my two kids and LOVES to snuggle. If she could, she would snuggle with us, on top of us, beside us on the couch all day. It’s a bummer how this breed has such a divisive viewpoint and opinion with the masses, but I will advocate for them. These pups can be so misunderstood. I appreciate your videos and have been learning and trying to apply a lot of great stuff. Many thanks and thumbs up my friend! 👍🏼👍🏼

    • Not liking other dogs, isn't any sort of issue really.. it's completely normal, natural and something I actually expect from a true pitbull.. I've had plenty of pitbulls that couldn't be around other dogs. They were still AMAZING dogs! Dogs are pack oriented anyways, your family is their pack, strange dogs aren't !! As long as my dogs are human friendly & respect MY other animals, that's all I need.. If they hate the neighbors poodle, that's totally fine, they have no reason to be friends with it! Just have to be responsible and make sure they can't leave your property to attack another animal and keep them on lead & under control on walks.

I have also lived with pits for 30 years and they are good dogs, not my breed, and I no longer live with them but I think you are spot on with these dogs. I do think they tend to be more prone to scrapping because terriers are more fiesty, and I can tell my dog Dobermann to step away from a potentially aggressive situation with another dog easier than any of the pits in my past. Other than that I think you were fair, funny and spot on. Thanks

  • Thanks for this. Our apartment neighbors have two, and I think they probably aren't bad dogs, but they are completely untrained and poorly controlled. So much lunging, barking, growling whenever I need to pass them in the breezeway. The kids are usually the ones bringing them out of the house for walks, so I figure if something happens, I'm probably going to need to be the one to try to help the situation. But I'm a disabled lady, so this would be a challenging kind of dog to subdue in any meaningful way. So far, they've each gotten away from their people and rushed me, but thankfully I caught their heads and it's been a mooostly friendly encounter both times, but that seemed to be a choice the dogs made about two thirds of the way over to me. Thanks for the info about their face and head anatomy. I don't have a ton of experience with Pitbulls outside of these two, so that was helpful. I love big dogs, but training is so important!!!

I have had yard accidents where I lost both dogs. You have to understand that they are NOT a Pack Animal. I'm not talking about the 80 KG, Blue Mastiff looking dogs. I'm talking about a 17kg athelete who do not like other Animals period. That being said, I have never seen a more versatile, clever and more loyal dogs in my life ever. You have to understand, this not a dog you take to dogpark and not expect an accident. There instincts are built for Humans not other animals. To make them get along with other dogs is not in there nature PERIOD. Once you accept that and Deal with them accordingly, you will NEVER find a better breed to own. It's in my blood. Using an ecollar has really helped to control his arousal when we come across potential prey. Is this something that he could be trained out of over time? Also, when he plays, he's a body slammer, which many other dogs don't enjoy, so I can't do dog parks or open play day care. He's not aggressive at all. He just plays rough. Is there a way to better socialize him, so he doesn't bowl others dogs over?

  • Well, ive definitely encountered very well behaved pitbulls, but the most ive seen in person are aggressive with strangers. Probably because most of my life Ive lived in not so great areas in terms of crime rate. The problem I have with people being allowed to have pitbulls is that we are all trusting the owners to train them well, to not let them turn aggressive, and then, we are trusting them to keep the aggressive ones on a leash. I see all these comments of people with the best behaved pitbulls, but the majority of the ones I see in person outside being walked by their owners are always pulling on the leash, while barking and growling at other people and dogs. Too many people want pitbulls just because they look badass. They have no interest in caring for the dog, and giving it all the training, time and attention it needs. Also, just because a pitbull never attacks you or a member of your family, doesnt mean that it wont attack a stranger. Then theres also the pibulls that have never attacked another person or animal, but, when their owners are not present, they behave completely different. Thats when you hear the owners "hes never done something like this before." And its true, its never done it before, but pitbulls are gonna be aggressive by nature if youre not working on them to be nice dogs.

    • I can respect your experience but have to push back on the idea of "people being allowed to have pit bulls," as I live in a low crime area and experience everything you mention on a daily basis - with *small* dogs. There are neighbors down the street who have a Pomeranian that bit my daughter two summers back, and the owner's oy response was, "Yeah, she does that." I have a Great Pyrenees and a red nose pitbull, the latter of whom needs at least 2 good, long (45 minute plus) walks a day, so I routinely encounter other dogs on a daily basis. There are exactly two small breed owners in my town who take their dog's behavior seriously. One owns a perfectly behaved chihuahua mix. The other has some kind of little mop of a black dog that doesn't listen when she tells him to stop barking and lunging, but at least she tells him and hauls him away. Every other small dog owner in my town just lets their small dog go berserk when they see either of my dogs. Since the Pyr is a livestock guard dog, it kicks her guarding instinct into high gear, and when she bellows back *I* am suddenly the jerk. I have this problem on a literal daily basis. I've gotten an ecollar to keep my pittie focused on me, which has done wonders in getting him not to worry about the yippy little dog across the street who wants to pick a fight, and even adjusted the time I take my pittie on walks and the routes we take, but because I live in a small town, there's no way to completely avoid the numerous badly behaved small dogs where I live. There's even a guy who walks his two small dogs while wearing a headset and singing as he completely ignores his dogs snarling and barking at every other dog they encounter. While I absolutely agree with you that too many people want put bulls because of the perception that they're aggressive and mean (that was definitely the case with the family who had my pittie before we took him), there are also too many people who get small dogs because they think it absolves them of having to train the little shits.

      @meredithcarroll6209@meredithcarroll6209 Жыл бұрын
    • I do not agree, I have a pit mix, he is good with people, great with kids, he really loves them but he simply doesn't like other dogs. We socialized him a lot starting from 2 months and worked a lot with dog trainers, it's the breed, some Pitts can be good with other dogs some just can't, that doesn't mean he is bad dog or that I am a bad owner, we tried everything for him regarding dog socialization. With people? he could kill them with the tail or with kisses... Robbers, 50% he will bark but probably he won't attack and 50% he will bring them the ball.

  • I lost my pitbull 3 months ago. I had him since I was 19, and he passed as I’m 34 at the age of 15 years and 4 months. Best dog ever on and off leash, despite being 46lbs, maybe 18 inches tall he had a very high prey drive, at 7 months old I ran to separate him as he was barking at a huge possum, and when I got close he jumped over him, grabbed him, shook him and immobilized him. I had a issue when he as 7 months old of he attacking our elder chihuahua for food but never happened again. They are great family dogs and are super eager to please but we have to talk about how they are escape artist and need to be properly contained and they are typically human friendly but as mentioned in the video can easily Chase and kill a neigborhood cat. Mine was great off leash, he trusted me 100% and I trusted him 100% and never doubted him so I never had an issue with him. But dogs are dogs and things happen. In our yard as I wasn’t home, he killed multiple of our neighbors chickens when they’d jump over, he’s gotten a few cats, he got a small coyote who was escaping with a neighbors chicken, a raccoon, multiple possums and birds! They have a high drive! Luckily he’s always trusted me and listened to me as I remember a few years back as my neighbors daughter screamed and yelled Gordo no, I ran out in my boxers in a panic and say my dog had their cat and shaking him but when I yelled STOP he let dog and the cat in a Second jumped over our fence and survived! My dog always listened to me and would come with a simple Whistle because I fully trusted him and knew he’d come. My dad is very old School and aggressive so when he’d yell at the dog my dog would just look at him confused and not listen. My mom is very nervous and anxious and had no control that to simply to stop him from barking she’d call him in and give him a hotdog or turkey meat. I’d get bothered because I would tell her she’s rewarding him for behavior she doesn’t approve of and she’d say “he doesn’t listen to me” well you have no confidence and think he’s aggressive cuz he’s a pitbull. These are amazing family dogs but need a firm loving owner and they will easily submit too and be eager to please and learn! But I would hike 3-4 times a week with my dog for miles, after the gym we’d go on 3-5 mile daily walks, these dogs have a lot of energy and will need to learn how not to jump on you as they get super excited and despite being medium sized dogs are very heavy and muscular, so they need their energy drained daily, they also aren’t for lazy or busy families as they need significantly more exercise than other dogs, they are as energetic as a Husky or Doberman tbh.

It's genetic, because it was offspring of one particular stud. Saying "just because a pittbull does more damage" is non-sense, because the amount of damage done in a dog attack is exactly the issue. More than half of all lethal dog attacks in the US are by pittbul type breeds. The other hundreds of breeds cause less than half of lethal attacks and there was probably NEVER a lethal dog attack committed by a Chihuahua.

The pits were not being properly restrained and ran over. Thank goodness they were able to protect their dog both times. I had a pit try and get on my deck (in my back yard) to attack one of my dogs. Many Pit owners are irresponsible from my experience. Sorry if it makes people mad, but it is true. Restrain your dogs! Personally, it s not worth the risk to own a a pitbull. • He’s as wiggly as my lab was lol. That jaw opening trick is how I did it with my dogs, when my lab was a pup also and in his chewing phase that was how I taught him not to chew on things he shouldn’t and not to be mouthy with people, only took once for each because he was so smart.

  • I was laughing from the beginning, although 10 first seconds raised my eyebrows, won’t lie). We have a rescue 7yo pittie mix, adopted. He was an absolute mess in the beginning. He’s still a handful. However, he absolutely adores kids. Any and all of them. Loyal beyond what words can describe. Yet cats and rats are enemies for life, bunnies = snacks, so walks can be challenging. Still won’t trade him for all treasures in the world)

  • I knew you were kidding with that intro, I have a lab/pitt/husky mix and he is the sweetest most cuddly thing and the esay dog to train I have EVER had and I've had a lot of dogs. I recently got a lab/husky mix puppy and he is the WILDEST dog I have ever had, if it wasn't for my lab/pitt/husky mix it would be HELL having that puupy he helps trains this pup so it's not just me doing all yhe work! He is the best dog I have ever had! And it's all thanks to the pitt in him.

  • Couple things remember about Fitness. They are terriers look up breed traits for terriers. They are high energy, athletic dogs that can be pretty stubborn. They need a firm, consistent training and ways to get that high energy health and they will be great Dogs

  • My daughter has a Pit/GSD cross ( looks like a black Pit) and an American Bulldog. We used to take our 10 lb. Papillon cross to her house with no problem. Her dogs were big lap dogs. There was a Lab that just about took my hand off that was visiting next door.
