The key to blending acrylic paint on canvas is to water down the paint to a creamy consistency and then use multiple dry wash brushes to smooth out the brushstrokes. This acrylic paint blending tutorial demonstrates and explains the complete process in detail.

    • Hey Greg, just wanted to tell you THANKS for the recommendation for the rechargeable airbrush sprayer. TEMU has a nice green one for 21$! I didn't even realize such a critter even existed!---No noisy air compressor nor aggravating lengthy hose to work around. A huge bonus to my work! Thanks Tons!🤠👍 (edit: Wouldn't mind seeing you do a tutorial on how you mix your non airbrush acrylic paint for different artistic effects)

  • You treated my OCD with kindness. As I watched the video I kept thinking to myself, “Okay I still see a harsh demarcation line between the yellow and what has become orange. Blend a little more here.” And it’s as we were communicating across space and time, because there you went! Absolutely beautiful! Probably not much of a compliment coming from me as I’m not even an artist. But my eyes are happy. 😂 Thank you, thank you!

  • I'm surprised by how much water is used. Word on the street is that too much water may affect the paint binding, so I have always mixed some medium plus water (I do see your opinion in the video that the amount of water you use doesn't affect the binding).

    @cvanscho@cvanscho3 ай бұрын
    • Exactly. What is the problem to people to just use medium?

    • That anti-water lie came from some KZhead video some lady made. She blocked all comments so that people can’t correct her. You can literally use acrylic as a watercolor and the paint will work just fine. You can thin, glaze etc acrylics using water only and it will be JUST FINE

Do you have a similar tutorial showing the blending technique , but using a larger canvas , say 40 x 50 cms and how to keep the paint wet on a larger canvas . It's just that it is easier for me to see on a larger canvas , but can not keep the paint wet . Thanks very much 😊

    @coolinva@coolinva2 ай бұрын
    • To blend small you can use a smaller brush like a round or filbert, get the bristles just wet enough to break up the paint, do circles on the color changes, and continuously wipe the bristles off when they fill w/ paint. Skip the last step and don't go over the area with a dry brush to avoid smearing/streaking. You can blend pretty much anything doing this, even smooth skin tones - kzhead.info/sun/p6hsiKl_mIOtqp8/bejne.html

    @barbiebrowny7003@barbiebrowny700312 күн бұрын
    • Water is going to be best. If your paint is drying too quickly, you can add some slow-dri amzn.to/3GhL5gc to it, but linseed oil is used with oil paints & will not help you here.

      @GregLowmanArt@GregLowmanArt10 күн бұрын
  • Something that has become very useful to me is a spray bottle that is mostly water, with a few drizzles of vegetable glycerin, and about 1/4 full of arcylic paint thinner medium. The liquid is transparently milky white. I can mist it over my palette, I spray it directly into cups, sometimes on to my brush, and rarely, I spray my whole canvas with it. This stops the "dusty" effect when I use too much water on my acrylic paint without me noticing. It keeps the pigments bound, extends the working time, is cheaper than using mediums directly, and somehow ends up working more smooth than water. I tend to do 100 glazes so overwatering arcylic could be a big problem for me. In fact, I would have made this gradient by glazing, and it would have been very frustrating and taken longer. 🤔I should buy a soft large brush, because all my really big brushes are rather stiff and meant for latex wall paint

    @grain9640@grain96404 күн бұрын
  • How do you know when you used to much water? I'm guessing the quality of the paint helps because they probably have better binding than the cheaper ones...idk. I tried painting couple years ago and my pictures kept cracking

    @spencerthu2956@spencerthu29562 ай бұрын
    • Your paint should never crack, even after many years - applying it too thick or using a cheap brand is usually what causes that. A good paint will even allow for watered-down glazes and washes without cracking/peeling. You may want to try one of the paints below and shoot for a creamy consistency like shown in the video: Liquitex - amzn.to/3UX6XVz Winsor & Newton - amzn.to/3Telf2P Golden - amzn.to/3UW5HC4
