    @DamielBE@DamielBE24 күн бұрын
    • What do you mean by layering? Regarding the sound design, it's not Blender centric and wan't done in Blender at all. So it's a little out of topic. Sound design is made from the video edit.

  • That was a great breakdown. I was surprised to learn the backgrounds were done after the animation was finished. I also like the thematic colour grading you did, that's a great touch. Good advice about prioritising effects as well. All too often people got lost in details that if they weren't there wouldn't have been missed by anyone, and you can't risk losing the whole shot to take care of that.

  • You did such excellent work on this short! You and Shotty have done a lot to inspire me over the past couple months! The bit where Ton says something like "Why can't we do work like this" - Well, I don't want to dis on what Blender Studio does, the design and animation is often immaculate, but I do feel that a lot of the shorts are...over-produced? Feels like too many cooks in the kitchen sometimes. In your case, you were the one with the vision and had others helping in smaller scale ways which probably helped keep the movie more on track. Good work! Congrats!

    @coyohti@coyohti24 күн бұрын
    • Well, the thing with Blender studio is also development. The shorts are made to improve tools and workflow so they would put way more energy into details and high end production. Honestly, I didn't like Charge that much but Wing it and Sprite frite are incredible.

  • Wow! Very nice! So cool to see a breakdown like this. We don't see it often enough. So do I understand correctly that really all the compositing you do in After Effects was primarily to add contrast, film grain, and a consistent color grade? This is great insight! I always thought there was more to it. Again, not a lot of info out there on this part of the process. Very very nice! I thought I was already subscribed, but your cute robot animation made me double check. Just thought I'd let you know it works. Lol.

    @nathitappan@nathitappan24 күн бұрын
    • Yes, I use to make a lott of compositing with tone of passes and in the end, you loose all lighting information and it looks like mud. With time, I lean toward getting the best out of the 3D render and just color grade my shots and add VFX.

  • Wow! This is incredible, and so inspiring! Thank you so much for continuing to make content like this! a few quick questions: is there a reason that you chose Adobe animate for the hand drawn elements, and not grease pencil? and Adobe After effects, and not the VSE? was it just a preference? Thank you again!

    @hammdesigns1@hammdesigns124 күн бұрын
    • Regarding After effects, it's a matter of experience, I 've been using it for over aa decade and I think it's slightly faster than VSE. regarding Animate, .... it's more straight forward for this kind of VFX. GP is great but is has a big downside, you can't easily make negative shapes and this is quite terrible for 2D VFX.

You think it would be possible to make your storyboard file available for us to look at and study? I'm sure many people, myself included, have many ideas and instead of drawing the storyboard, could use 3d. We could study what were the main poses you blocked out to get the point of the shot across. Also, I'm curious, for the Ape jumping down shot, how did you scale it all? I mean, it see you have cubes stacked (array modifier?). How did you know how many to use? Is the Ape actually moving downwards or it is a cheat by moving the cubes upward before it hits the ground? sorry for all the question 😅

    @Shka_maru@Shka_maru16 күн бұрын
  • I had a question on how you time your animations, I follow your advice about first making the key poses first every 5 frames however when I want to start timing the animation I get a problem. When you use the action editor, moving frames around will only affect that specific rig, and if you have multiple rigs in the same scene all with animations , it becomes difficult to keep track of everything. Is there a way you go about this or should I just stop being lazy😅

    • Because you probably didn't name your bones properly. You have to identify left and right on your rig.

  • Is there any particular reason why did you start with animation and then do the environment around it? Seems counterintuitive

    • Because you can always cheat with the environment. And what matters is what you see. So once you figured your animation and framing, you know how much will be seen on screen. The outdoor lab was made early on and I blicked the corridor too, as it was important in the composition. But these were simple volume.
