  • I haven’t seen any comments on this yet so I just wanted to point out how effective the use of a VA is here! Usually in analog horror series nowadays all the narration is done by text to speech, but the use of a VA (and a good one at that) makes this more immersive than it already is. All the small details you put into this series are noticed and make it even better!

  • I think this video in particular is the perfect representation of the backrooms. It's supposed to be a feeling of unease, tension, and uncanny dread due to liminal space rather than scary monsters and jump scares. I feel like the internet kinda screwed up by latching onto a generic Slenderman type bipedal monster that screams and chases you as "the entity" instead of something far more immaterial and ghost-like. Something whose presence can be felt and has agency of actions, but whose form is rarely physical but is changing and hard to comprehend when it is.

    @davidn4956@davidn4956 Жыл бұрын
    • Have you ever seen the Russian science fiction movie "Solaris"? (It was remade in the US a few years ago, but the original is much better.) You wrote, "...something far more immaterial and ghost-like. Something whose presence can be felt and has agency of actions, but whose form is rarely physical but is changing and hard to comprehend when it is." This is the heart of "Solaris." It's about a group of astronauts who travel to another planet, and what they experience there--a series of ghostlike shifts in perception and apparitions, their own loved dead somehow returned and alive again, and more. These mysterious, frightening events are the work of the planet's living ocean, itself a sentient being which is deliberately influencing their minds. It's incredibly eerie, haunting and fascinating, full of classic "uncanny valley" moments. Based on your comment here, I think you'd like it.

      @denverdubois5835@denverdubois5835 Жыл бұрын
    • So in essence, you want the backrooms ITSELF to be the entity, toying with inhabitants like the time-skip and noises we see here? Because just a constant corridor of "liminal spaces" by itself certainly isn't unsettling that much, just boring. There has to be some threat lol

      @KevinJohnson-cv2no@KevinJohnson-cv2no Жыл бұрын
    • @@KevinJohnson-cv2no yep yep yep. it doesn’t bother me that the entities exist i actually like that but it becomes too much of a focus in some videos, the actual scary part is how unsettling and uncomfortable the whole thing is

    • @@KevinJohnson-cv2no It sounds boring until it happens. In source games (like Garry's Mod), liminal spaces are everywhere. In Garry's Mod specifically, there is a Backrooms map. Although you know you're not alone, you constantly feel stressed out, like something's watching you. Now, imagine that exact feeling, but you _cannot escape it._

      @YokaiX@YokaiX Жыл бұрын
  • Key takeaways: When the guy with the camera enters the narrow hallway it might be a form of "Null zone", because the rest of the team didn't hear/notice him whilst being there. It might very well be that he had already "disappeared" and thus was unable to be noticed. The red wire the rest of the team was carrying dissappeared, perhaps indicating that he was gone for an unditermined amount of time (the team gave up on finding him, and thus went back through the portal. The darker room might indicate the precense of imperfections with the backrooms design (imperfect calcuclations), as the hallway leading to its enterence shrinks in height. The room differs due to having different wallpaper, no lights as well as distorted objects (large and small wheelbarrow). When the individual is in the "theater" area, automated subtitles show "Applause". The individual must have survived getting lost, because the last schematic shows the room he was in as a place for the portal to open up, the "threshold" linking "Standard" with the "complex" (hence the found footage). As he arrives to the door he is heard with a mix of laughing and crying (sign of relief), this together with an alarm activating when he spoke indicates this is a part of protocol to retrieve lost personel.

    @danieleriksson6498@danieleriksson64982 жыл бұрын

  • I have a theory for the room with the tree wallpaper and the wheelbarrows. It may not be a good one. If this whole place was created by something that doesn't quite understand human architecture, could it be whatever "it" is trying to simulate the outdoors? You have a house with "trees" surrounding it( the wallpaper), and fairly normal items you might find in someone's garden, an axe and wheelbarrows. One of the windows in the house was even made of glass. Could be entire wrong but that's how I seen it.

    • I think you're pretty much right. The idea of the Backrooms seems to be a real-life version of copying and pasting models and textures from reality. It's like an A.I. algorithm trying to replicate aspects of our world in this strange other plane of reality.

    • Maze horror has always relied on fear induced by experiencing something close to the uncanny valley. I think the reason something uncanny is frightening is that it presents that a thing is trying to deceive us to let our guard down. The implication of course is horrifying. To put so much effort in deceiving us to make us vulnerable implies that the effort in preying on us must be at least equal to this effort in deceiving us, to make up for it. An infinite uncanny maze, so infinite horrors.

      @manawa3832@manawa3832 Жыл бұрын
    • I think the creepiest part is how uncommon these places are. Similar to the outside area from pitfalls, it's just down a hall while the majority of the place is typical yellow wallpaper backrooms. Like it's a hidden area for experimenting with things you don't quite understand and don't want anyone to see yet.

    • My take is that the room was no clipped from a section of the complex that takes place in the future. In Presentation, async announces that they want to build residential and commercial districts. It could be that they went far into their developments before things go horribly wrong. I could be wrong but we'll definitely get more answers to this mystery.

    • There are several ways I've been breaking this down. Honestly, I saw that video a few weeks ago because it ended up in my feed. I started it, and couldn't look away. I'm still confused about what this is all about, but my guess would be the art of exploiting ones fear. The ending, falling from the sky and almost feeling immanent death after the creature chased you around, was very real feeling. I also think about it from the creature's point of view, having someone, like an alien being show up in your domain, where you are familiar with the layout and are potentially acting out of fear. That's kind of a terrifying thought in itself. But fuck that thing, it's evil and doesn't deserve my sympathy. Plus he kicked me out of a spaceship without a parachute. I'm still salty.

  • 5:31 this right here is perfection. I like how fake it looks and feels, pretty much like a bunch of .jpeg pictures clumped together mixed with somewhat realistic CGI. When the camera pans over to the left is a bunch of .jpeg weird looking ass objects like the wheelbarrow and an axe, then the .jpeg house further ahead to the left, just stamped on a wall... there's just something amusing and odd about fake looking objects like that just lying around. That can only enhance the overall 90s "strangely/oddly real" feeling of it. I wouldn't dare to further elaborate such a particular feeling. I somewhat feel like this whole "fakey" feel of it is kind of missing in Kane's newer videos as they're getting more realistic - that even actual actors are being introduced more and more - of course I don't really mind it, I still find the newer videos amazing, though I must say they're missing this very specific "fakey .jpeg feel" should I call it.

  • This feels like it's straying more and more from the actual Backrooms lore and I think it's way better for it. I feel the tension and suspense in these videos, I feel way more terrified by the concept of this place, than I do by the actual lore of the backrooms, maybe part of it is because of how gamified it all sounds, where everything is categorized by levels, with highly specific and detailed ways to go into other levels, with generic loot and things like that. While most of backrooms content is like "oh yeah be sure to pack a few bottles of Almond Water before going into this level", this series makes it all look way more alien, something eldritch and unknown, instead of just some glitchy game.

It also implies that people have been through the whole thing and mapped it out. It ruins the mystery and mystique of them and makes them FAR less creepy imo. Edit: I also hate how its explained as a glitchy game with "levels". other than how you get there; I think that fits pretty well. I feel like it shouldn't be explained at all and just left as this mysterious, senseless space just outside of reality.
