This vase was inspired by stainglass art and the ocean. This was my first attempt at UV resin use as well.

  • Nice piece. You are right. We are creative. God is creative and we are made in His image. Body soul and spirit. God blessed me with gift of music. I play flute and I know the presence of the Holy Spirit when playing in the praise team. Playing is easy. It flows with very little forced effort. In other words I dont have to focus on myself but on God. It's hard to explain. But the anointing ..... specifically in my case ... for playing the flute to and for God in praise is not entertainment for the church. I direct it to God and it is wonderful to know the pleasure I believe the Lord has to hear the genuine worship of his church. I have been told by a friend that he was in a church in the UK when during praise and worship he could hear the angels singing in the roof area of the church. God bless you brother. Your heavenly Father takes pleasure in your creativity that blesses so many. Great vid. Thanks.

  • I totally agree that creativity is bestowed upon us by our creator. It's nice to hear KZheadr that's not ashamed of his beliefs. I believe when God breathed the spark of life into the dust to create man, that that creative spark gives us the power to be creators ourselves on a much smaller but still Divine level. I love this piece, what a creative way to make a simple vase!!! I love the way you created the resin windows

I so wish that people could just understand all he has for them is love thank you for this channel and for what you do for children God bless you my friend and my brother in Christ!

  • That is a beautiful and interesting piece! I think the reason the UV resin didn't work like you wanted it to is because you have it so opaque. The light has to be able to penetrate the resin to harden it and if you have so much pigment in there that the light can't get all the way through then you're going to get goo 🙁 I don't also recommend letting the light sit on there for at least 2 minutes. I know 30 seconds doesn't sound like a lot but it is. Something else that might be helpful to you is if it's not quite cured, you can just stick it out on your driveway in the sun while you go do something else, and just rotate it every once in awhile and let the sun do it for you as well.

  • Great piece! Here are a couple of things I have found with working with UV Resin. First I found you can pour in layers. Secondly torching the top of a smallnot to thick of a piece will pop most if not all of the air bubbles. Thirdly I run my UV lamps for longer to get a better cure. If I am doing a thick piece I usually pour in layers curing between layers: I pour then I lightly torch over the pour until the visible bubble are gone. I generally use a small kitchen torch but sometimes I use my husbands hand held propane torch. I dont like to use the bigger torch very often because I have small hands and don't feel like I have total control with it. Torching may take two or three passes over the piece (about 2 or 3 seconds). Then I place under my UV lamp for about 4 to 6 minutes. 90 seconds may make the top hard but the under portion is only tacky soft set if the resin is to thick or opaque. When in doubt the longer the lamp is used on it the better. I have found 6 minutes usually cures the piece thourghly. Once I am done with the curing process I let the piece set for about 24 hours to air cure and settle up before I do anything else to the piece. That seems to harden the piece more and makes it less resistant to damage while I finish off the piece. If you have small chips in the resin you can fill the chip with clear resin cure it with your UV lamp, like you normally would, then let it set for 24 hours. At that point you can proceed with your project. Using clear resin lets the original color to come through and will be less noticable of a repair. Also adding alcohol ink as a colorant to your resin keeps the resin more transparent than other pigments. To give resin depth you can add small amounts mica powder or glitter. If not to much is added you still retain the transparent look but have a little bit of shine and interesting depth. Love all your tools... Keep up the good work and good luck on your organizational fund raising. Mary PS... When you encountered the tacky resin in your vase you could of put a small UV lamp inside the vase and moved it about every 3 or 4 minutes to cover all areas of the inside of the vase. Once it was cured you could of continued with finishing the inside with out the problem of uncured resin. I bought a couple of small UV lamps, each for under $10.00 on Amazon, that I use when I have pieces that have odd angles. I can position the small lamps so they hit the odd angle straight on which gives the piece 360 degrees UV light exposure to cure. I think that would have helped you a great deal inside the vase too.

    • Awesome advice! Thank you! Do you have a lamp you recommend? The only thing i could find had a max of 90 sec timer on it...

    • @@artgivinghope I bought JDiction UV lamps they are inexpensive and do little area or pieces just fine. They have 30, 60 and 90 second timers... I use the the 60 second timer 4 to 6 times... It is kinda of pain to reset it for 60 seconds every minute or so but I discovered I don't need to babysit the lamp. I do try and reset it as soon as the lamp turns off but if I don't jump on it right away it is ok. I have a sticky note pad by the lamp and make tick marks for everytime I reset the lamp. This helps me keep track of how many times I reset the timer especially if I am multi tasking. Bottom line is that it is easier to under cure UV resin than to over cure. Hope this helps...

  • One of your best pieces. I learned the hard way with UV a couple of years ago. Had sold back pendants trays and I couldn’t get UV resin to cure, someone suggested it was the resin brand, nope tried others. It was not being able to cure resin from both sides, front and backside. It’s a learning curve. UV resin has its place. It’s remarkable that you were able to accomplish what you did. Ty for helping children.

  • That’s beautiful! You did great finishing that with uncured UV, that can be a sticky mess. It reminds me of a wicked glass I used occasionally, it left very sharp burs after cutting it. I was a stained glass artisan in SL. I did a replacement window for the chapel on the Temple grounds. Just the round window in the middle, unfortunately we couldn’t repair the original. We were lucky enough to get the glass to match all the others so, it’s not noticeable. Great job on your piece and helping OUR.

  • I love your art, you have such creativity. UV resin can be layered, so you can make it deeper by doing multiple layers. The light has to penetrate to set, so your bottoms were gooey because the blue was so dark and there was no light coming from the sides like in a semi opaque mold. I would have started with a thin, clear layer and then built colors on top of it to build depth. You probably already know that resin pigments are very strong, using less pigment would also let the light penetrate all the way through. I hope you use it again! And I’m thankful for the chance to share info because I always learn something from you. It’s like sharing! Thanks for sharing your beautiful work, and for all you do for children.
