Today we take a look at the latest patch notes for Hearthstone that sees Dr. Boom’s Incredible Inventions added to the game on May 14th, two balance changes to Brann and Saddle Up, the announcement of Whizbang’s Heroes Twist season, a new Arena season, an update on the Weekly Quest situation, a new event, and tons of bug fixes.

Brann should be nerfed to: for the rest of the game your battlecries trigger twice, also replace your hand with 10 injured blademasters.
For the rest of the game, your charge minions have plus 1 attack. Very OP.

This changes nothing imo. Against aggro, Warrior either has the tools early or doesn't, Brann isn't even a factor. In control matchups, the extra 2 cost won't move the needle at all, the game comes down to late game value and the fact that Tho'grun just nukes your deck. You want to nerf Warrior? Put steam cleaner, or a version of it at least, back in standard so there's some form of counterplay beyond playing dirty rat and praying to RNGesus.
nah, warrior can often win aggro by yolo dropping brann on 6, when they couldn't remove the whole board anyway, and play something like brawler on the following turn. after that, the game is solved for them, they either zilliax or excavate to seal the game. without brann active, neither play can just outright win vs deck like zarimi priest. and in control matchup it's also obviously huge that the cost is 2 more, gives other control decks (which there are none tbf) 2 more turns to rat/pressure, something like HL shaman (if it was any good) could be doing stuff like wish upon a twin star and spawning 4/4, 5/5 frogs by that point, making brann much harder to play at 8.

It was an intended bug
My guess is that finding his head counted as you becoming a new hero, which unfreezes you. With this being not intentional.

warrior doesnt change at all tbh. Cuz in control matchups it can even cost 10 mana and it still shits on everything. In aggro matchups warrior doesnt even use brann at all
Yep, even without a Brann the Warrior has to much utility and good value cards he can use. Brann just increased what is already 11/10 to 12/10.
In aggro matches, they use it for Zilliax though.

So it helps the midrange decks that are killing warrior but then start to lose and snowball after bran is played. Gives us 2 more turns to kill them
Brann needed to be reworked, not just bumped up in mana cost. Lazy change from the devs, though can't say i'm surprised with that 🤷♂️

The 2 mana increase might just be there to kill the card for now in order to please the players who are upset with Brann. After some time have passed, maybe Brann would get a rework to make it playable again.

That isn't good enough. It still gives them a bunch of Zilliax, and makes a full board with final excavate. Still gives them 6 TNT, and bring back a ton of zilliax.
What if it said "Your Excavates trigger twice" The whole set is about Excavate, his art is all about finding the treasure, and they could keep it at 6 or even lower depending.
Honestly, at 8 mana brann is still gonna see play and it doesn’t address the issue

It's so problematic it will either see play or it won't, this is no way to actually "balance" it, but I guess it would have been tough to do something for it.
The real take is that Brann isn’t even that problematic on his own. He has one really toxic interaction with boomboss and maybe the ox, the rest of the problem is really just warrior has a ton of good cards that aren’t battlecry minions. Warrior can gain like 10-20 armor before they even hit turn 6 and has tons of great value removal.

Or 'double all excavate battlecries.' which would keep the flavour of Deepminer. I would have included the excavate reward battle cry in there as well. Yes the reward battlecry is rough but I'd take that over three zilliax all day long.
Yeah I wanted to brann do something more unique and flavorfull and i wanted for him to do something like : "Summon a Deep Rock Mine, if your starting deck didn't had duplicate your discover excavate rewards" and DR Mine would be something like Rheastrasza summons "At the start of your turn excavate, your fourth excavate can be reward from ANY class" ofc worded better but basically something that you can put in any deck but works better in highlander (like elise trailblazer)

I find it strange that the dev comment says that these decks/cards have cropped up since the last balance changes, when i found it strange that brann was not nerfed and hunter only had a small nerf in the last balance changes. I would say that both these cards was strong before the last balance change and brann warrior was a problem and hunter was a potential/borderline problem.
Yeah... Before the last balance change, Hunter was T1 and Reno Warrior was T1 despite being held back by Plague DK which was T1 just because it killed Warrior and Wheellock. They give them a love tap with 1 mana change to 1 card each... And they continued to be T1 as their direct competitors get DESTROYED. And the devs are surprised? I wonder how they'll respond in the upcoming balance changes when they might actually do something about these decks after they continue to be T1...
Brann was super strong in Badlands.. For fuck sake, Boomboss saw okay even then. Only halted by Plague DK. This shit was the most obvious as fuck outcome. And the fucking fact that they are not even touching Boomboss is actually just retarded. Even more so after all that talk about interactive gameplay. Absolute nonsense, these people are churning out bullshit just to appease their player base and keep them content and buying their portraits. Nothing but pretty buzz-words. It is becoming clearer with every new update from Blizzard. The fucking fact that weeklies are still a mess.. the wildest thing is the player base eating it up and allowing them to get away with it. No spine.
They are either stupid or straight up lying. Like everytime when they say: We are happy with the state of the game BUT.. and then there are a lot of changes.

Brann should've been a 4 mana 2/4 that summons a location with 3 charges if your deck started with no duplicates, and each charge triggers your next battlecry twice. Still incredibly strong, stronger against faster decks, and doesn't insta win against other slow decks. And you can counter it by destroying the location.
There should definitely be minions that create locations, for extra theming.
1. The Brann change feels like a bandaid. Not a fix. But it does slow the card down so I'll take it 2. The Twist season *actually* sounds fun and is probably what the mode should have been from the beginning. Looking forward to playing as a solo adventure boss essentially lol

I hope it's interesting but I've got doubts, pre-built decks, even with cool powerful stuff, will eventually get old for some people, maybe less than a month. Also it's a bit weird that they don't allow any version of that Legendary character to count for having access to them. We all know which Guff a Wild player is mostly likely to have and it isn't that one. I'll be giving it a shot though, I have maybe half those Legendaries so I got some stuff to do for a bit.

I'm really excited for the new twist mode! Finially I have a use for all the bad legendaries I couldn't bring myself to disenchant (Or in the case of Nozdormu, willingly crafted for some reason)
I played a game recently as Warrior against a warrior They used Diry Rat and pulled my Brann and on the following turn I threw down Dirty Rat and hit their Brann too. What resulted was one of the best games of Hearthstone I've played in months with Warrior actually feeling like a real control deck with no nonsense
Brann nerf does very little, still autowin against any control deck. And I suppose you can't expect more than a cost adjustment in smaller, quick changes.

I'm already used to only playing brann after reno, I'm not sure this is a big change, especially because the deck doesn't do much on 8 typically.
I feel that Brann should be reworked into a new version of the OG Rafaam. "Discover a Powerful Artifact" and you get options of some updated versions of the old "Powerful Artifacts" That way it's not some dumb infinite value card, it's not being a complete mess of a design (Making ANY battlecry available to Warrior dangerous) Simply nerfing its cost doesn't do anything if the entire deck is simply revolving around drawing cards and gaining armour until you drop Brann and then drop Boomboss or Azerite Ox. Making it "First battlecry each turn" doesn't do anything because the deck is simply revolving around playing big battlecries like Boomboss, Zilliax, Dr Boom, Azerite Ox anyway. Making it "Your next 3 Battlecries trigger twice" just makes it into bad Shudderblock... We already have Shudderblock.
I don't like the idea of reusing Rafaam's Artifacts for Brann, that would be like having Brann summon improved Boom-Bots. Its just feels wrong. My new idea for a Brann rework is "Battlecry: If your deck started with no duplicates, Discover 2 Epic Excavate treasures. They cost (0)." That way it mixes the theme of Excavate and highlander.
Every other class has some way of ending the game what's the big deal that two control matchups the one with more greed wins?
@@KingOfTheDungle Because warrior isnt the one with more greed? It in fact punishes greedy decks and rewards aggro and tempo. Like, have you ever played a value game against TNTs?

In fact, I explicitly stated "Updated versions" So while they might loosely be based on the old "Fill the board with stuff", "Buff a minion" and "Deal damage split between enemies" they won't be the old 10 mana versions. They'd be new ones. Ones that fit with current hearthstone and make sense for Brann and Warrior.
@@KingOfTheDungle The issue isn't simply "More greed wins" The issue is that Brann effectively hard counters any other slow deck. Not just edge out control decks, but outright hard counters any slower deck (This includes midrange decks, attrition decks AND control decks) Brann being uncounterable, "For the rest of the game" simply creates too much power, especially with Boomboss as it creates so much disruption that most decks just crumble once it occurs. The fact that even greedy Priest decks can ONLY have a chance if they also steal Brann + Boomboss, even if their deck is naturally greedier (Which it normally is, chock full of thief cards and ways to copy Aman'thul) means that it isn't about a greedier deck winning in control mirrors. It's about Brann being a dumb effect that destroys late game strategies.
With saddle up going up to 4 mana it also no longer gets tutor by the hunter legendary as well

Rarran had a great idea where instead of it just being an aura, you have the ability take up a board space as a dormant minion like the dragon nest so it can at-least be reno'd.
It still feels really bad though because it forces you to play a reno deck as the only way to counter it It’s needs more interaction
They should have made Brann into something like 6 mana, same stats, battlecry: Your next 3 ( or insert number you think is fair ) battlecry minions you play effects trigger twice or something.
The biggest problem is the boomboss brann interaction. Even if it would only say your next battlecry, it would be way too strong.

This sounds like a more interesting option for twist at least. A few fun and different options. Its about time twist is something insanely different from regular hearthstone. With regards to the weekly quests, I hope they give out some free XP to all the players because there will be loads of people who lost out on a lot of xp because of how bad they were

As a mac player, I very happy finally to get access to the shop again. I simply can't play arena right now since I can't buy tickets with coins. Funnily enough, it was also the case for the heroic tavern brawl, meaning that some of the playerbase couldn't spend gold on the one thing designed to funnel gold out of players pockets.
This isn't good enough. Brann can still be played, and half the games they didn't draw him early anyways. Reno still basically locks you out of the game for two turns, hunter will still be OP. Plagues will still be super annoying and reska shouldn't have been printed in the first place, much less have excavate to bring it back and steal your minions all over again.
Reska can be played around so easily (low attack minions making them have to burn a removal on it, deathrattles that summon stuff to make it at least a 50/50, for the tier 4 excavate it has 5 health witch makes it worse, the reborn makes it better, but they still need to kill it first) plagues RNG is the win condition in the control matchup, and that is only a win condition if they went double Green, otherwise in control matchup it is an annoyance at best.
@@AreYouTheBot That doesn't make sense. If you have anything valuable like deathrattles, they can steal it with Reska. Plagues should not be permanent, nor should they be able to disrupt your mana supply.
make it like overwatch, idm if the quest says Play 15 or 20 ranked games. But make wins grant double progress. This encourages people to hop into ranked aswell and make them feel they still get the quest done despite losing.
have to say its probably the first time ever I will play a match in twist even tho I have a huge collection of old/wild cards I never bothered of Twist before

Damn, i think this is the best idea i've seen to balance brann. Still really strong but at least its winnable. What frustrates me the most is the Brann + Boomboss combo. Its insta lose if you have a slower deck. The only counter play is dirty rat but even so its not reliable.

The comment from RidiculousHat a few days ago would also seem to suggest that the implementation of the Quest changes is underway but taking longer to pass than expected. Hopeful that the Quest changes are the tiered sort, that would explain why it took a while for them to do, and would be a very refreshing change.

The problem for bran for me was the boomboss legendary. Shuffling the bombs is fine. But the bombs unable to hit themselves is terrible. As soon they play it with the brann, your deck us already thin and drawing one bomb will keep increasing the chances to hit your cards in your deck.
Mac has a bunch of visual bugs too like skins not showing up. the shop has been closed but didn't affect me personally as I was saving my gold for the miniset instead of buying packs
I don't think Brann is the problem tbh, its Boomboss, getting 12 cards destroyed from hand/deck is why you cant out value Brann, that type of disruption is annoying
Correct. If Boomboss did not exist, 6 mana Brann would not even be remotely top tier.
Brann is the main problem. Boomboss is a secondary problem. Brann facilitates several disgustingly powerful battlecry options: - Boomboss. Shuffling in 6 TNT basically deletes your hand hand most of your remaining deck. - Zilliax. 3x 6/5 Taunt, Rush, Divine Shield, Lifesteal mechs - Dr Boom. 4x 6/5 Taunt, Rush, Divine Shield, Lifesteal mechs go smack you in the face - Azerite Ox. 4x Discover 8 cost minion to summon. Will often get bounced back to hand and replayed for more massive boards of 8 drops. On their own, these battlecries aren't too bad. But Brann causes them to be over the top.
@@tarille1043 in my opinion those other battlecries aren’t a problem, sure they can win the game if opponent doesn’t have a board clear in hand but that could be said for many cards in the game, there is no answer for boomboss
Brann fix: for the rest of the game, whenever you gain armor your next battlecry triggers twice. This Kind of requires a hero power, which we saw with the quest, but you can chain battlecries that gain armor. Similar but quite a bit weaker

If it's not Apple it's not a Mac device, Apple makes very sure of that. Yours is most likely Android but I don't actually know. Hope you can get the problem fixed.

I’m surprised Voidtouched Attendant hasn’t been nerfed yet. 1 mana deal 1 extra damage all the time is just too ridiculous.

If the only nerf to warrior is Brann going to a higher cost, then they need to nerf Boomboss. Because aggro, mid range decks can do something against a 8 mana Brann, but control decks would still automatically loose. The Boomboss TNT's should be reworked, their disrruption is insane. Just one battlecry can destroy 9 cards, like wtf. And no, Dirty Rat countering it is not enough, because even if you hit Boomboss, you have still to overvalue warrior.
When Boomboss first came out I thought 'what a cool card, shame it'll never be viable' and now 1/3 games it destroys a 10 cards and an instant concede. I absolutely love disruption but even I will admit it can be crazy.
I just think this makes it so that Brann is a late game card through and through, you only play it against slow decks, you keep it in your hand against any form of aggro. This would make Odyn Warrior probably preferable if the meta is too fast.
For brann. I feel a more flavorful effect would be, “for rest of game your excavates trigger twice” instead of battle cries. It would only trigger when it sees the keyword excavate plus a battlecry. This would not affect the excavate legendary reward or cards that say, “if you excavated x amount of times this game.What do you guys think?
i guess it’s hard to do in coding-terms, but how about being unable to hit enemy hero for like, three turns? You still get the value from double BC, but you don’t end them immediately

Should I disanchant brann? I didn’t disanchant Odin because I like warrior although I wasn’t playing much of reno warrior because I didn’t have boom boss. So should I disanchant brann?
Disenchant brann once the patch goes live. You can always reenchant him later since the disenchant and enchant cost the exact same on nerf patches.
That Twist season sounds so cool, probably the best one so far.
Brann basically got the same treatment as the Theotar nerf. It was widely disliked because the problem wasn't the mana cost, it was the effect. Looks like they learned nothing, or they just don't care about fixing core concepts of cards that makes it so unfun/unfair to play against.
I'd rather always have this Twist style of season, yes it may be behind a pay wall but it's just a Legendary, not the whole Wild collection (with cards that don't even see play in Wild)

The Hunter nerf is not enough unfortunately. To make it balanced they should also nerf Observer of Myths from 1-4 to 2-3 bc Observer into Monkey combination just doesn't give a chance to clear it with a fair cost. Brann - lazy solution but fine for now. For me the perfect nerf would be "Make you battlecry cards in hand trigger twice".
The problem is if they nerf hunter too hard, they can't hide the fact how broken warrior currently is.
Does 2 mana really mean much when warriors have 25 armour by turn 6/7? Maybe? Im just not convinced this will kill highlander warrior
It's incredible how Brann and Helya is pretty much the same type of card, like "drop this on curve and win", but Helya stays untouched since released. Brann was really op at 6, but let's be honest here, how often do you win against DK if they drop Helya on 4?
I think brann should be your excavates trigger twice I feel that's decently strong still and fits the theme. Maybe make it 5 or 4 mana if it still has the highlander requirement.

What if Brann was "Your next 5 battlecries trigger twice" then it could be less about getting him as early as possible and more about when you want to use him as a finisher. This could bring him to 3 mana too probably.

that would change nothing. All the good battlecries that warrior want to abuse are 8+ mana (and the 4 mana legendary treasure)
i think the mana nerf for brann is a good quick fix ; sure it doesn't adress the fundamental issue but it makes boomboss and zilliax delayed by one turn in a lot of circumstances
As much as I hate Brann, I don't think this is the way to go. They should've at least tried making his battlecry put a location/permanent on the board so that he actually has counterplay like the other highlander cards.
Hoping the Brann nerf was a quick way to get players to get the mini-set and playing again before they rework him properly in the next patch. Honestly wasnt too excited for this mini-set coz Brann is just so toxic. But hopefully the majority will test out the mech style warrior. I certainly will be :)

brann 8mana+ back to previous battlecry he had, so u could shuffle some copies to prevent him from triggering, same goes for reno

I think they address the wrong issue, most player just hated boom boss that blow card, in synergies with bran prior, it can blow potentially 18 card,, now they make it 8 mana? Maybe see play in wild idk but in standard nope😂

Brann should be nerfed to "..summon a location.." and when used then your battle cries trigger twice. A bit questionable what would the number of uses. This way you have more flexibility in terms of counter plays. If they've used location on this turn, they most probably would not play Tho'grun or the Azerite Ox on the next turn. Reno would be the counter from control decks. Aggro decks can win anyways against Brann warrior. Alternatively to location it can be summon an "azurite mine" or something, similar to Rheastrasza's nest, which can also be removed by Reno. Aaand the 8 mana change imo does nothing..
Putting Bran on 8 doesn't do much, vs Aggro you never play him on turn 6 or at all. In Control matchups, sure, you drop him 2 turns later (if you draw him), you have less mana flexibility and you can't chain Bran into Tho'grun and insta win games (Which I think is the most impactful change) but other than that, this does not solve the issue. The card needs to be reworked so you either can counter play it (Make the battlecry a location that triggers all battlecries twice IN THAT TURN) or you have to think when yo play it (make it so the effect only lasts X ammoun of turns)
I saw the 8 mana Brann coming. At 8, he's still great, but not unreasonable. IMO, the murdered card is Saddle Up. 4 mana slow down the deck by a lot.
Good. These changes are supposed to be slight number changes to slip in with the miniset before they do the actual large balance changes after the miniset drops. Hunter is much stronger than Warrior at the moment, so thank God that they at least did one change.

With brann the 8 cost I think is good what they should have also done is make it the next 2-3 battle cry cards you play trigger twice instead of for the rest of the game.

Brann should not be nerfed. But boom boss should be nerfed to “whenever it attacks and kills a minion, shuffle 3 TNTs into your opponent’s deck”, so that it doesn’t interact with Brann.
Effect will never go off.
Or just make it a deathrattle. Still repeatable that way if you resummon him somehow, but there's at least some opportunity to counter it unless the warrior spends cards to destroy his own boomboss the same turn he summons it.

@@shiqiu6942 Make it 7 mana then and that problem won't exist. The nerf from battlecry to deathrattle is probably worth 1 mana.

The brann nerf hits warrior 3x. Don't forget that now the 10 mana ignis weapon might summon a Brann, lol, and the OX might summon a brann too. lol
