I've been wondering about this and I wonder if it's about Cognitive Dissonance. I assume some people voted for him because they genuinely thought it would bring change and be refreshing? Then when everything turned different, instead of changing their views and realizing he was indeed not the promised change, they just find reasons to stick to it even more so they can reduce their cognitive dissonance. Changing views and rethinking is cognitively too demanding, thus people just stick to their beliefs and in fact immerse themselves even more into it by e.g. believing straight up lies (Election was stolen) or finding any forms of justification (He must be God sent) Add media like Fox News and Social Media Platforms like Facebook to that, where people selectively expose themselves to whatever Agenda fits their ideology and boom.. perfect formula for extremism.

I like useful idiots podcast with Matt Taibi and Katie Halper on Rolling Stones podcasts but they too are considered too far left and are moving their show to substack
