    • I was listening to the book Great Adaptations and it was talking about 'worm grunting' which is a method used to bring earthworms to the surface. Apparently some box turtles will stomp/shake the ground to do this too!

  • I am currently on advance preparation to breed my Walacean Box Turtles (Cuora Amboinensis Amboinensis) as they enter their adult age. This helps a lot on my research regarding on how to breed box turtles. I don't see the species of turtles I have in the Garden State Tortoise but I guess the breeding would still be somewhat similar as to the breeding of the Eastern Box Turtles. Thanks a lot!

  • Love the baby turtles- just so cute! Best of luck with the Mexican Box Turtle clutches! Anecdote re: size variations- I chose a male Ball Python because I wanted the smaller size- estimated 3.5 ft when full adult- obviously someone forgot to tell my boy who is just a little over two and a half years and already 4ft. My vet is estimating between 4.5 and 5ft once his primary growth is done... from planning on his 36x18x18 being his forever home and then his 4x2x2.. I'm now saving for his 6x3x3 (if he gets bigger than thst he has to start paying rent!)

    @janlvll5486@janlvll5486 Жыл бұрын
    • In the original video about how they got them he explains about how they were poached in Mexico and illegally smuggled into the US. He said they can not be legally returned. Aside from that there are hurdles like they don't know where in Mexico they were taken from. Ideally they would be returned to the same place they hatched. A while back they did a video about eggs rescued off a beach because some people had been messing with them. Once the survivors hatched they were taken back to that same beach to be released. They can't do that with these. There can also be other reasons like getting too dependent on humans for food and such. The longer they are with humans the harder it would be for them to re-adapt to the wild.

  • I know with snake eggs you need to keep them aligned with how they are laid or candle them so the embryo stays on the top. Is that not an issue with turtle eggs? 40 years ago: I live on a farm and we would spread the previous year's horse manure onto the field. I had to go through the pile and remove the turtle eggs so they would not be spread out in the field. Every year I would have dozens of Painted turtles and some spotted turtles. I would simply bring them back to the place the horse manure pile was and set them free. It was probably done all wrong but that's all we knew back then.

  • Hi Chris. My grand daughter and I were exploring in our back yard a few weeks ago and discovered what i believe is a 3 Toed box turtle. We found what appears to be cracks across the top of the shell just over the head. He also had a large protruding lump beside the head with a pea size hole in it. I saw a worm peeking out so I tweezed it out and flushed the wound with peroxide. More grubs presented and I ended up removing over 60 of them from this poor creature. We have him in an outdoor enclosure for now until we know what to do. Please advise.
