Marion was not incompetent at all in the first film. She was kind of a damsel, but she only found trouble due to her proximity to Indy. She was also tough as nails.
Yeah, her only problem is simply that she wasn’t given much to do in the movie. Fairly solid character with very little opportunity to actually contribute. It’s kinda that always-frustrating Dragon Ball Z effect, if you get my meaning. (If not, the gist of what I’m getting at is that a lot of characters in DBZ were very well established as extremely capable, competent, and strong, yet most of these characters were consistently under-utilized and even outright misused for jokes. As someone who loves that legendary old franchise-and indeed, Dragon Ball Z is one of very few anime I even like-this is my main gripe about it. So much wasted potential, so frustrating.)
When you realize Indi's whole life was trying to get his father's acknowledgment, which is why he won't give up the treasures he found. But when his father called him by his name instead of "junior" and tell him to stop, Indi finally stopped and found what he was looking for.
Yeah but that's the name of the dog! 😛
This movie is so well written.
All us Juniors out there felt this movie hard.
His father's approval was Indy's Holy Grail.
Fun fact; Indiana was the name of George Lucas's dog who was a big Alaskan Malamute. (Indiana was also the prototype for Chewbacca). So it was a funny little easter egg thrown in there.
"I named the dog Indiana"
@@JedHead77 Willie was Speilburg's dog and Short Round was the name of the writes dog.
If you watch the scene where young Indy runs home, you'll see a Malamute for just a second.
"I didn't know you could fly a plane." "Fly? Yes. Land? No." Harrison Ford in real life.
Come on! Just cuz he landed on a taxiway that one time!😂
@@GhostWatcher2024And then a golf course.
The part when Indy's father talks about her talking in her sleep, you were not reading too much into it 😅 spot on actually
Best part is that Sean Connery improvised that line
@@christianwise637 Yeah, I was thinking I remember hearing he improved it and they just rolled with it later. Which is hilarious.
Elsa was reincarnated as a disney princess with ice powers where she learned her lesson from this movie and now sings "let it go" to remind her.
Harrison Ford and Sean Connery had amazing father-son chemistry in this movie! I always hoped they would make another with the both of them in it but sadly, it never happened. Fight scenes and car chases were all fun and the tomb raiding was great too!
The funny thing is they were both only twelve years apart in age IRL
I'm glad they didn't make another Indy movie with them. I think this movie was a nice send off, and they should have stopped there. Now, I would have been in favor of a different movie with both of them starring in it. Similar to how they did with Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathau.
What a day for Indiana. His fear of snakes, the whip the scar and the hat all in one day.
Yes, an unusually formative day! 😆
Only one of two movies that explain his chin scar.
A bit of cinematic irony: the gun Donovan shoots Henry with is a Walther PPK, the same gun Sean Connery made famous during his tenure as 007.
To make this even better, Donovan is played by Julian Glover, who had previously played a Bond villain (albeit in a Roger Moore film)
Not quite, it's a Walther P38.
@@JT-nd6qp As an owner of both models, I assure you, it's a PPK
@@benschultz1784My mistake, I saw someone off-screen pointing a P38 at Marcus earlier in the scene and assumed that was Donovan, so I didn't bother to double check. I do know the difference, believe me.
@@JT-nd6qp No problem
Willie was insufferable in TOD yes. But Marion was a badass in Raiders. Not sure where the argument is where the women were useless
"Everybody's lost but me." Back when Elsa COULDN'T 🎵 Let it Go.🎶
Come on. That's not even funny.
@@joakimberg7897 No that was funny, you, are a punt with a c
@@tru3sk1ll You are offended and I got under your skin. Come one, type what you wanted to type. I dare you.
@@joakimberg7897 At least 15 people found his comment funny, while you got not one single thumbs up on your comment. Thats telling.
@@PygmalionFaciebat the likes are from compassion. No one found that funny. And if they did, then they are probably twelve years old.
The Malamute we see at the start of the film is the one Indy is named after & is a nod to George Lucas’s own dog. During the time when Lucas was writing Star Wars, his own Malamute would sit next to him in the front seat of his car whenever they went out for a drive. This hairy co-pilot Lucas had, gave him the inspiration for Chewbacca!! The boat chase, wasn’t actually filmed in Venice. It was shot at Tilbury Docks near London; virtually all the studio shooting for this film….as with the previous two films was carried out at Elstree Studios. Hitler was played by Michael Sheard; older fans will remember him as Mr Bronson in Grange Hill….as well as Admiral Ozzel in The Empire Strikes Back. Heinrich Himmler was played by Ronald Lacey; who previously played Toht in Raiders of The Lost Ark. Walter Donovan was played by another former Empire Strikes Back cast member; Julian Glover was General Veers. Glover was also the voice of Aragog in Harry Potter. However my favourite role of his was as Colonel Breen in Hammer Films excellent ‘Quatermass & The Pit’ from 1967.
Here's a neat bit of trivia for you: the actor Julian Glover, who plays the prime villain "Donovan," also played the primary villain (Aristotle K.) in the "James Bond" film, "For Your Eyes Only," (although James Bond was played by Roger Moore in the film,) and he played an imperial officer (General Veers) in the second Star Wars film, "The Empire Strikes Back." (edit: "For Your Eyes Only" primary villain name correction.)
Not to mention more recently as Grand Maester Pycelle in Game of Thrones.
He's also been in Doctor Who more than once. First as Richard the Lionheart in the First Doctor story The Crusade. Then as Scaroth in the Fourth Doctor story City of Death. Seeing as Scaroth was an alien who was broken into "splinters" at various times in Earth history, fans have speculated as to whether Richard was a Scaroth splinter.
@@hadoken95 He also was the Giant Spider Aragog in the second Harry Potter film, "The Chamber of Secrets"
Kristatos. Stop getting Bond wrong.
@@Dirkus17 "stop getting Bond wrong"? That statement implies that I've made errors about Bond more than once. That being the case, what else have I gotten wrong about Bond?
Many comments about Marion but noone mentions the fact, that the "grave robber" who gave Indi his hat in 1912, was originally supposed to be Abner Ravenwood, Marions father.
You got all excited for a strong female lead and she ended up being a nazi in the end. This is my favorite Indy movie. I like the relationship between Indy and his dad, the music, the action, and the score. It's a feel good movie for sure.
A fun fact, it´s when young Indy uses the whip and gets a scar himself in the chin. Harrison Ford, in real life, has a scar in the same place, but in his case was due to a car crash when he was young.
The Marion disrespect! Hate to see it Yes it was ink in the eye, you had it right. I’ve never had ink in my eye but I don’t imagine it feels pleasant. And it was squirted in, there’s gonna be a reaction. Important to note: Indy and his dad aren’t immortal now. The immortality effects of the grail stop when you pass the seal in the temple, or maybe when the grail is taken past the seal. “That is the boundary and the price of immortality.” Maybe continued drinking is required. It’s not entirely clear. In the novelization the knight explains he aged a year for every day he didn’t drink, so that’s why he’s older, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he stopped being immortal when not drinking, he just lost youth.
Also a nice detail is after Indy drank from the Holy Grail the blood and his wound on the side of his head healed.
@@Mario_001 yup
I have had ink in the eye and it really stings
Indy Drinking from the Grail also explains how he survives a later event that should've killed him
"Is this guy [Marcus Brody] oblivious?" Yeah, pretty much all the time.
A simple carpenter's cup, yet in the hands of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Prince of Peace, it shines brighter than the purest gold.
I've watched this film so many times over so many years and watched so many reactions of it and it never occurred to me until now. I just had an epiphony. When that nazi is giving that gold to that guy for going through his country and says it's donated by the finest families in Germany...it finally dawned on me. I was like "ohhhh I see" What he meant was, stolen from the finest Jewish families in Germany. Now it all makes sense.
“Elsa…Let it go! Let it go!” 😉❄️
River Phoenix as Young Indie is a total match. 🤍
May he rest in peace.
The scene where he drank the wrong cup scare the heck out of me as he turns old at a accelerated age.
Oh yeah, that scene scared the hell outta me as a kid, when Walter Donovan turns into that skeleton as he dies from drinking from the false grail, and I used to hide my eyes from that scene
Doc Brown!
“No ticket!”
37:44 Yes, that was ink squirted from a fountain pen. The ballpoint pen was still about ten years away from being invented.
Sean Connery's "She talks in her sleep." Was totally improvised, hence Harrison Ford's startled reaction. Yes, Indy's dad did sleep with Isla before Indy met her. 😂😂
What? Sure, Willie, the woman in the second movie was terrible, incompetent and super annoying. But Marion? Marion was a boss! 😁
Yeah that threw me too, pretty much everyone who watches these films unanimously loves Marion as a character, so I'm not sure why Alyce doesn't particularly care for her
@@christianwise637 Maybe opinion, but literally Elsa was the worst IMHO and my most hated.
Willie was the best.
This is one of my favourite reactions I have seen. And the fact you love rats delights me! I love all animals (some at a distance or behind glass), but the rats and dog in this film were adorable.
19:58 Yes that look he gave his dad was when he realized they had both.. Because, well, it's a weird realization to have.
Been looking forward to this! Thanks for the upload!
I'm just like the old knight, I don't like inviting people around to my place as they always create chaos and if they stay for drinks, they never leave. He chose poorly.
Indiana Jones: "I can just reach the artifact!" Howard Hamlin: "Well, maybe there are more important things."
It's waxed paper, similar to what architects use, that Indy used to copy the engraving on the shield. It would've survived his sewer swim but it wouldn't have been still crisp as it was when he took it out again in the hotel room.
It’s honestly amazing that a movie can not only begin an exciting origin story but have such a satisfying ending. And Last Crusade does it with that iconic shot of them riding off into the sunset.
Another fun fact it´s that Sean Connery and Harrison Ford (who played the roles as father and son), have only twelve years of difference among them. Sean had 59 here and Harrison 47 (but Sean looks more older obviously).
Young Indy, at the beginning, it´s played by River Phoenix (the older brother of consecrated actor Joaquin Phoenix). River, unfortunately, died at 23... too much young.
Petra, one of the 7 wonders of the world is close to Egypt, it's east in the country of Jordan.
This one’s my favorite Indy movie too! The father-son story, the religious themes… they really ended on a high note when people thought this would be the last Indiana Jones movie
Even with my disdain of Donovan and Elsa as villains and Indy repeatedly punching the Nazi guy on the tank so many times (literally 5-6 times) with the scene feeling like a Tom & Jerry/Wile E. Coyote Roadrunner cartoon, the funny and emotional moments with Indiana Jones and his father, Henry Jones Sr. were without a doubt the best parts in the film.
While I saw part 4, I've erased it from my memory and 5 I didn't even bother to watch, so as far as I'm concerned there was only ever 3 films in this franchise. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Salah, Indy’s friend in the Fez was helping him in Raiders of the Lost Ark. He is played by a fantastic actor called John Rhys-Davies who played the Dwarf Gimli in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Unfortunately most don't know who the other guy in the Fez @ 32:43 is.
@@iaincowell9747 I remember him from a lot of films and tv. On your prompting I went and had a look at who he is (still going). Very interesting man, thanks for the nudge.
It's too bad they made more after this one. Them riding off into the sunset really was the perfect ending.
The scream at 34:37 that you enjoyed is actually an insanely often used sample, called 'Wilhelm Scream'. there is even a compilation of it on youtube.
I guess everyone has their own opinions, but for me, of the 3 Indiana Jones movies... I still think the 1st is the best! Oh, I loved 2 & 3 as well, but not as much as #1
“Ew! Gotta drink his blood? I will pass!” So, not Catholic, I’m guessing.
YAY! Thank you for making me smile watching it with you on here. This made my day.
Disregard anyone who says not to bother with Crystal Skull. Crystal Skull was what Spielberg envisioned, the first three were inspired by adventure serials from the 30s and 40s. Crystal Skull was envisioned as sci-fi camp from the 50s. It's what he was thinking. So please bother with it.
What you thought was in Egypt is actually Petra, Jordan. This is the real site of the ancient civilization. They have many monuments there, including the one you saw.
The Grail shrine is the Treasury in Petra Jordan.
Great reaction as always! Keep up the good work!
Love when something silly or funny happens and you look at us.
My personal favourite of all the Indiana Jones films. So glad to see your reaction.
I see similarities between Sean Connery's character in this film and Jar Jar Binks in their child-like innocence and clumsiness which always proves fortuitous. Prove me wrong internet!
My favorite bit of trivia is that Harrison Ford fell in love with rats and adopted one from the shoot
I love the hidden detail (shown on re-watching) that Marcus Brody is waving away offers of water, food, desert clothes and survival gear only moments before being abducted to the deep desert.
The reason they had young Indy cut his chin with the whip was to give a reason for Harrison Ford's real scar
Father and son adventure! Couldn’t be any better!
Fun one,Alyska! Thanks for sharing it. 🙂
Time for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny!
Where do we go from here? From Dusk till Dawn - Don't watch the trailers! Die Hard - If you haven't watched it Army of Darkness - Stop motion madness? The Karate Kid - Is Daniel really the good guy?
That is actually how we say goodbye in Germany. Large gatherings frequently end in a brawl.
This is a good reaction. 🎉. I liked the sum up at the end.
Beautifully fun reaction. Thank you.
While I like the character of Elsa in this movie, Marion from Raiders Of The Lost Ark is still my favorite. She and Indy were meant to be, in my humble opinion.
My favourite indy crusade reaction ever Alyska was funny in the reaction and genuine shocked Also some observations Alyska noticed that I hadnt made me feel like I was watching it for the first time Fabulous girl
Won't drink blood even for eternal life? At least we know Alyska isn't a vampire.
It's not - Raiders is. But Crusade is still a very fun film with plenty of iconic moments, and you are entitled to your opinion.
45:55 That's the kind of nightmare fuel that'll scar someone for life. But not Indy, he's the definition of "nerves of steel" and "seen it all."
Fun fact: Harrison Ford has crashed planes IRL a couple of times. Per google: a helicopter crash landing in 1999, a runway overshoot in 2000, a golf course crash in 2015, a taxiway landing in 2017, and a runway crossing mistake in 2020.
Bloody hell that's a labour of love. The music is great
The final location, where they find the Holy Grail, is the tomb of Al-Khazneh meaning "The Treasury" in Arabic. It's one of many structures carved into and from the pink sandstone of the ancient city of Petra in modern day Jordan.
Hi Alyska hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
40:45 It is, it's called Petra, but its in Jordan
At the end one of the german soldiers really said: Don't move, this is a stickup!
The pen was an old fashioned type where the ink was siphoned into the pen from an ink bottle, rather than a cartridge. By reversing the siphon, the ink can be squirted out.
Yes that's right, planes underneath a Zeppelin was totally a thing. The more you know....
Um the first movie was a strong woman. Did you not notice that? So the 2nd movie switched it up. That was only a small part of the entire plot. But also she became strong by the end. You know, how normal spoiled rich people become after some REAL events happen to them. Literally there is nothing to complain about there
So, what a lot of people miss about the X on the floor is that its almost invisible if you look at it from the side on Ground Level, you would have to be above it to see the Shape.
Glad you enjoyed this journey of Indiana Jones, I think this movie (The Last Crusade) and Raiders Of The Lost Ark are my personal favorites of this franchise, and I also think you should definitely watch Harry Potter and Stranger Things at some point
26:33 Oh look! It's present day America!
Harrison Ford and Sean Connery were such a great duo in this movie! Its a shame that he didnt appear in the 4th movie but was supposed to
Awesome movie in the Indiana Jones series.🇬🇧👋👋🇬🇧
7:54 that is General Veers from The Empire Strikes Back (in command of the giant walkers during the battle of Hoth in the snow), and the Grand Maester from Game of Thrones.
4:16: That was meant to explain Harrison Ford’s real-life scar.
Young Indy became Belloq, just with his idol's leather jacket instead of a tailored suit. A shadowy reflection indeed.
Now Kingdom of the Cristal Skull... 😊
Great reaction alyska now the next movie to react to is the fourth one the crystal skull you will enjoy it I'm glad you liked the third one so much😊
The man who gave Indy his hat is rumored to be Marion’s father
I always love to see you laugh lets me know your a happy person
24:56 You've seen "The Great Escape"?! Oh I love you even more now! ❤
7"01-It's because in real life Ford's been voted People Magazine's "Sexiest man of the year" 3 times Between '80 and '91. Even some of his female co-stars have admitted they crushed on him. I loved how Connery finally put the ghost of James Bond behind him for good in this movie, and their chemistry was great. My biggest laugh was the "No ticket" scene on the blimp!
This movie just goes to whole new level as soon as Sean Connery makes his appearance.
Did you know the plot was likely inspired by a scholar named Otto Rahn and his quest to locate the Holy Grail in the Pyrenees in the late 30's. His benefactor was none other than SS Reichsführer, Heinrich Himmler himself! If someone had told me this I would have never believed him/her if I haden't seen a documentary on the subject.
@UCWE5YsJ3-1JiznhtsCUvz7g Otto's story ended rather tragicly and a bit less exciting. Anyway, on a more cheery topic, I have sevral video suggestions including: "How The Great Mafia War killed Thousands" and "How the Empire turned the People against the Rebels: Star Wars Lore" by the channel: "The Lore Guy". Check these out and consider them.
Beautiful film... full of esoteric and historical messages. The whole saga is beautiful
Another really good Sean Connery adventure movie is The Man Who Would Be King with Michael Caine.
That is one of my favorite movies.
43:36: Happy Leap Year!
Can we just take a minute to appreciate how awesome Alyska is. Her content is always entertaining and full of humor. She's the best at what she does. Thank you, Alyska.
40:50 It's the city of Petra in Jordan. 🙂
And it was voted one of the New 7 Wonders in 2007. Seeing as most of the original 7 are gone now.
@@DocEonChannel Exactly!
Riding off into the sunset, the perfect end to the trilogy... I know you're likely going to watch at least the next one, but just remember this ending.
I still play Call of Duty - World at War......periodically......still enjoy it.........Still a dozen or so servers running for the PC version of the game!!! You are truly a "hoot" to watch!!!
I saw this in the theater with my brothers. We all has a great time. But it's been a long time since I sat through the whole movie.
5:40 It also shows the origin of the scar on Indy's chin.
