  • You folks at Battleship Cove did an excellent job with all of the vessels you have undertaken to restore. That PT boat is an excellent exhibit. I am glad it is kept indoors.

  • Always been fascinated with the PT's since I was little which is a long time ago. Was there 20 years mainly to see the boats. Enjoyed my visit there and if I didn't live so far away l would definitely come back. Look forward to the next video take care.

  • Elco actually built 399 pt boats in total. The PT boat training center was in Melville RI next to the Newport naval facility. My uncle served on PT 380 RON 28 he was involved in many rescue missions of downed pilots and also helped with operations for the Alamo Scouts.

  • Hi Tom, Hope all is well with you and Battleship Cove . Enjoyed your video on PT 617 and hope to tour it when I next visit. Also plan to complete the " Firepower Tour " with John Scholes. Is the engine room open to visitors on PT 617 ? I would like to see those big Packard engines. Thanks for the video. Phil.

  • Hey Tom thanks for making the video! The torpedo tubes on PT boats were intended not for the Mark 14 submarine torpedo but the Old WW1 surface ship Mark 8 torpedo. It would have been a waste to give a Mk14 to a PT boat! A sub had a much better likelihood of getting a hit than a PT. See the director they were using? very primitive in comparison. The Navy agreed only to supply the obsolete Mk8 which was available in large numbers to be used on PT boats until they came up with using the Mk13 aircraft torpedo instead. A Mk14 was simply too scarce and valuable to waste on a lowly PT boat. I am happy you made all this effort to make these wonderful videos! Keep up the good work! Jerry G PT658 crew Portland OR
