  • What did you notice between the two set ups and lenses? What one did you like better?

    @thechrishau@thechrishau2 жыл бұрын
    • Highlight roll-off on the cine lens was perhaps a bit better, though not $50k better 😅 With regard to the actual shots, form factor really plagued you, while your friend managed to get more natural shots with more (controlled) motion, ironically enough. He has extremely steady hands, so it won't be the norm. What do you think?

    • Besides the sharpness of the Leica, the colors were totally different - the jacket was very blue-ish with the kit lens but had a much deeper black to it with the Leica. Definitely preferred the Leica overall and bet with a scene with lots of color it would really shine over the kit lens. Love the 20-60 though, I've considered trading up to the 24-70 2.8 but so hard to beat the value!

    • Leica cinema lenses are probably the most overpriced lenses there is. You’ll see more difference with the Cooke S4

      @premiumparis@premiumparis2 жыл бұрын
    • Is there a difference? Yes.. If I was making multi-million dollar projects, the difference is worth the price. When you're doing KZhead or commercials for local companies, not worth it. Additionally the cinema lens needed 2 people to work the camera and huge rig. Even more expense. Definitely overkill for a little gain. You can do lots of professional work with that kit lens, much more efficiently.

Your response would have a bit more impact if you didn't ignore the other part about your own monitor/phone/tablet's accuracy and resolution affecting the final viewing result. • Definitely agree with what you said, can you see a side by side difference? Of course you can, but separate are you going to notice? Not really aside from the obvious stuff like aperture. Now, is it a $100k difference? No, not here on KZhead at least. You can probably see more variance in the edit than here in the ole compressed world of YT! Both sets of clips would be marketable to a wide variety of clients. Add a good gimbal like the RS2 and maybe a Sigma prime which is still at least $48k cheaper than that Leica glass and you have a real solid competitive set-up! Solid vid man!

  • Very interesting. It seems like the kit lens also picks up a bit more blue light in the blacks than the cinema lens, especially in the leather. But there could be other factors at play. This really emphasizes what I tell aspiring photographers/cinematographers looking for their 1st camera- Nowadays there almost isn't any bad choice of camera. Technology does a lot for very little money now, a cameras are just tools, instruments. The question shouldn't be what is "best". Instead ask yourself what camera is right for you and your vision or workflow.

  • Love this video. Personally, I think you could have covered a bit more of the characteristics of the different lenses. The kit lens is very digitally sharp which maybe could have been diminished using a black mist filter of 1/4 to give it a nice rolloff in the contrast to make it softer. On the other hand, this is already part of the expensive lens, so if budget is not a concern by all means, if it is, then filters would go a long way at a way lower price point :) These comparison videos make me confident in the equipment I already have and completely removes the Gear Acquisition Syndrome for me. The difference is the contrast and the detail being delivered to the sensor with the Leica Summilux lens. There is a difference, but you need to determine if the subtle differences are worth $108,000.00 to your production. If you are shooting for Cinema release, then the extra expenses may well be justified ?

  • Chris PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show the side by side comparison for longer than 4 seconds. This is KZhead not tik-tok. Those comparison side by side shots are literally the absolute main draw and reason we watch the video, other than yourself of course. Loving the content and I can completely get on board with the higher energy styled videos you’re putting out but for the love of god slow the most important bits down. I need quadruple the time to mentally process a comparison, 8 seconds per shot for the side by side. I know you show them individually but the most integral part is the side by side and it’s simply not long enough. Otherwise you’re killing it! 👍🏻✌🏻

  • Should've used a gimbal on the Full-frame with the cheaper lens but indeed they look nearly the same but it's because the editing was dumbed down for things to look identical. The real idea would be to see how each look at their absolute best though. Of course, the high-budget premium setups are funded by people who live off hundreds of thousands of dollars on interests a month or more After all their expenses have been paid.

  • For us mortals there is no difference or little, buy you are watching a compressed KZhead video, play it in a cinema and you will see a much bigger difference. Also it is worth mentioning that the price difference comes not only from an optical point of view but also from build quality, precision, durability, workflow etc…

  • I think the 18mm felt less intimate and less dramatic because of it. Preferred the kit lens shots. There. I said it. Pile on. ;-)

  • S5 is like $1500 on sale right now. It's insane how this camera gets slept on. Better everything than an A7iv except AF. For $1000 less.

  • What this comparison really shows is that lighting and composition is more important than your lens. take the kit lens and $500 lights and you would be miles ahead of the whole cine setup without lights

  • 50k $ for what kind of clients? Probably in big teams. As a 1 man show its sometimes so hard to carry all that gear and what for? A $500-1000 contract? Kit lens will do just fine if you have the skills!

  • The kit lens has more compression in the shots. I wish you shot with a 50mm or 85mm I think that would be a better comparison.

    @lifeofDwight@lifeofDwight2 жыл бұрын
    • Compression is a purely perspective based characteristic. It has nothing to do with optic design. Was most likely due to him standing farther back.

  • This is the point in history where glass matters. All full frame cameras are capable. I shoot with a73 and I find I want a new prime versus new body. Stepping up from a6300 made me realize my glass is capable but I want just a touch cleaner. The issue is it’s a big price jump for a touch cleaner. Time to update my prices.
