LordHighYoshi It’s not that hard, I did it mostly with the Toad/Toadette and Toad Kart combo. I had the best luck with smaller characters.

This gameplay footage is so unsatisfying. Lol. Crashing over and over and over again, driving off the track, riding directly into obstacles....
And then there's some clips on the ice level and rainbow road where you see perfect S drifts and tiny spacing adjustments on the boosts
And completely missing item boxes.
This video reminds me just how cool the early 2000's were.

This was the first game I ever owned. My parents and even the employee at Frys tried talking me into buying a different game because they thought I would get bored of Mario Kart, but I played it for hours and is still one of my favorite games to this day.
Wasthe game i got for Christmas with the gamecube bundle. I remember being bummed out cause i didnt see a cube shaped wrapped gift.. But lo and behold. It was shaped as a rectangular prism.. Good ol days.. Didnt come with a memory card though 😂

Driving with two people is so cool, especially when it's two characters who you don't see together often. One can hope they bring this back some day...
One of my favourite Double Dash moments was when my family was playing just after we got it in a Versus match, and my eldest sister, in fourth, had just gotten a Blue Shell. As she went to throw it, however, circumstances pushed her into first place, so she wound up accidentally throwing a Blue Shell at herself. But because of how clumped together we were, all of us were hit, so it didn't make much difference in the end.
It's still wild that there's been so many potential crossovers that happen with Mario and Sonic that just...don't happen. I like the Olympic games and Smash and all but these two franchises should pull a 'Mario+Rabbids'
My absolute favorite Mario Kart that feels like it was made with a lot of love, every character has their own unique special items and the music is amazing! I wish they would re-explore the dual racing mechanic and make another.

The best Mario kart. It doesn't over rely on power ups, almost every character has a special item, the weight mechanic is quite in-depth, and the maturation of the drift mechanic.
The Reverse Cup Trophy just reminds me of the official Homestar Runner edit. Also, no mention of DK Jr almost making his comeback in Double Dash?

Here's a piece of trivia you missed for the MKDD Bonus disc: It has connectivity to Fire Emblem for GBA, it unlocks a menu in Fire Emblem that transfer some weapons and items to any main campaign, and it also unlocks the last 4 songs in the Sound Room (some of those songs can only be unlocked this way)
And Mario was planned for All-Stars Racing... oh how the turns have tabled.

The best part about Double Dash was the ability to switch items, enabling you to store items for later use.
We need another MK DD it was such a fun game and having it so characters had special items was awesome.
The GameCube had some of the absolute best Mario games on it. The graphics of Double Dash honestly still look really good by current standards
I remember playing this online using the LAN adapter and a piece of software called Warp Pipe. Worked just fine so I am calling BS that Nintendo couldn't implement it.

Double Dash will always hold a special place in my heart. It just felt so big and exciting and new at the time, since it introduced *so* many new things to the series, with the expanded roster, multiple karts, etc. And, visually, it's still my favorite, with its vibrant visuals and bouncy kart animations. Such a classic.
I still love this game to this day! I actually initially got it for Christmas from my dad and it wasn't initially a game I wanted (Didn't have anything against it or dislike it just wasn't on my radar) I still have it to this day and play it on my 75-in LG tv. My dad bought me the component cables back in the day and I have a generation one GameCube. This game holds up beautifully to this day

I literally lost my mind when I unlocked the golden kart. Also my copy of the game came with a Zelda bonus disc. It included a timed demo of windwaker and full versions of ocarina of time and majora’s mask
Fact for Mario Kart DS: A pink version of the Egg1 kart can be found in Mario Kart DS’s files, which indicates that Birdo was planned to be a driver!

Chasu Swizzlesticks that’s mostly for netplay. using LAN through xlink kai is the closest you can get to true online double dash, but the game will run slow if you are more than 60-70 miles away from the other player. there IS an unclaimed bounty, however, for someone to rewrite the code and fix this issue. currently it’s sitting at $125.

Great episode! I had no idea that reverse races were an idea Nintendo had all the way back in the development days of double dash. I'm glad we're actually able to see that idea come to fruition in Mario Kart Tour. It gives a lot of the tracks a different feel to them.
This for me will always be the jewel of the series, me and a friend played the world tour night after night for almost 3 years straight. We only stopped cause we were afraid to burn out the disc, I still keep it in the shelf as a special ocasion game. No other Mario Kart was this addicting. SILVER PIPE KART FOR LIFE!

You drive backwards the entire track. The same way as usual, but kart in reverse.

@@Merrinen The issue is that some courses like DK Mountain can't actually be driven backwards without significantly modifying the course design.

The gameplay footage reminds me of how hard Double Dash was to control compared to all the other Mario Karts. Coming from 64 to Double Dash, and probably even from 8 Deluxe to DD, it's such a different control style than usual. Having two characters in one kart also throws off the dimensions of the kart, it's not easy to see in front of you when you have a character literally blocking the view of the front of the kart, so it's easy to crash into stuff.
A little disappointed that Donkey Kong Jr being planned before being replaced by Diddy Kong wasn't mentioned (there's images of his model from prototypes too, if I recall!) but still a good video!
DK JR. Was also supposed to appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl too. He recently returned to Mario Kart in Tour.

this was my favorite mario kart, with the wii version being my second favorite. hopefully once the gamecube VC comes in, this will be added with online play.
I am convinced that people are either really great at playing Double Dash or extremely terrible, there is no middle ground.
When I was in elementary school, my older sister brought a boy over and we played this game. He then thrashed us, basically lapping both of us and then he said we were bad and that my pokemon posters on my wall were for losers. My sister stopped talking to him, and to this day I have no idea how he just destroyed us like that. If you see this Will, I took down those posters but still like pokemon.

Most underrated Mario Kart
I would have loved the double jump mechanic. Maybe you could dodge a shell or banana. Heavy carts could jump over some terrain so that they do not lose a ton of speed.

I should have figured that sidecars were an inspiration for “Double Dash”. Just look at the way the second character hangs on and leans into corners: it’s very similar to sidehack racing.

Ah yes. My first video game and first Mario Kart game. Despite the flaws the game has, I still love it to this day. I really wish that Nintendo would bring this concept back. Imagine the kart customization with the double dash mechanics and anti-gravity. I know it’s a bit overkill, but man, that’ll make my day when that happens.
Funnily enough, in the UK/Europe we didn't get the disc with demos, we got the Zelda collector's edition disc with the NES and N64 games on them.
Wish my copy still worked. It, along with a bunch of my gaming stuff, was in a fire; it wasn't burned, but it did spend a prolonged amount of time in very wet conditions. Part of the label on the disc started peeling off and my friend's GameCube doesn't recognize it.
This is by far the best and most skill based Mario kart game
