  • I'm a fan of the 318 industrial motor. I had a Dodge van with one in it and zero trouble with that motor and it had plenty of power.

  • My chuck n duck has a 383 in it and has no foldable hopper. I use it by myself around the farm. Have not been hurt yet. The most dangerous chipper I ever used was a Sears home chipper. It jammed up, broke in half and spun around on the ground while I ran away at full speed.

  • I got to use one of these old fast chippers when I worked a temp job for a tree cutting firm, and I will tell you, the last thing you want is for your cloths to get caught up in the branches or something. These old machines are much faster than the newer ones. It's amazing how you can take a small log and turn it into small chips in just seconds.

    • The golf course I used to work out had two of these old chippers. Never really had any issues with them other than replacing the belt. Both originally had the 318 Chrysler engines. One of them still has the original engine, but the other one blew up one day for no reason and we couldn’t find a 318 anywhere to replace it so we ended up swapping on a 4-71T Detroit diesel. We ended up having to do a lot of fabrication to make it work and create motor mounts to support the extra weight. But it works quite well and doesn’t quite suck as much fuel as the 318 but they are still both pretty thirsty engines but they get the job done.

  • Started treeremoval in 1992 and bought a 12 inch drum made in 75, have another 1968 model 16inch aswell as 2 disc chippers.. THE beauty of this two old drum chipper... NEITHER HAD ONE WARNING LABEL ....II went and made one for each machine about 5 years ago with my lazer printer.... "WARNING: If you are an idiot stay back 300 feet when this machine is on, 50 feet if machine is off" If you want the REAL history of these chippers and who made the first one....in1949 Asplunadh After his name

  • NICE!! I'm looking into a WC126A diesel. They also came with gas Ford's. Maybe I should look into gas considering parts prices, gotta be easy to find parts for automotive gas engines!

    • Yikes those old gassers were from a time when god gave boomers free gasoline... plus they pump a bunch of carbon monoxide into the area around them and who wants to pay road tax on the fuel lol

    • Yup, found this 3 years later. There is an old Wayne for sale by me now. Engine parts as you said should be no problem. I would think bearings would be sort of universal, no? My buddy had an old unit, he said there was a part that required oil that failed and cost quite a bit, I don't recall his brand.
