I challenge you to find another artist that has reinvented the influences left by the great guitarists and singer/songwriters of yesteryear and redeveloped them to suit modern blues, rock and pop genres consistently from album to album the way Mayer has. @dr3w7910 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's the subtle things that really make him stand out from other guitarists of his generation. The variation in his licks, the often times exotic scales and modes he uses, his sublime phrasing...I guess what I'm trying to say is that he's one of the all-time greats, but people don't seem to see it. It becomes very obvious in his performances with Keith Urban, who his by no means a bad guitarist. But Mayer is just so much more creative and innovative. Well, haters gonna hate, I guess. We'll probably appreciate him as a blues great a few decades down the road. Till then, spread the word and fight the good fight!

@nuendo249610 жыл бұрын
nuendo2496 The lead guitar goes into playing the riff without changing his sound set up, you can see his reaction as the guitar starts to resonate as he steps on the peddle to save it buts too late. Mayer who hears this happening changes his pick pattern to a strumming riff to smoothly adding an extra two bars to the interlude to the next verse. props to the band to keep up.

Honestly! There is nothing like the pedal Steel in this! DAMN! Just makes every section of the song sing! Even just 'praises' the guitar solo at the end even more!
Anyone else here in 2024 just to witness John Mayer's legendary performance? His mastery of music and guitar is unparalleled. 🎸👏🏻
aint NOBODY in modern music that has as much feel as this fuckin guy.
***** Dude, that kid, Ray Goren, is amazing, i just watched his video with Buddy Guy and Quinn Sullivan, i just felt sorry for Quinn. Ray Goren got me goosebumps at the first lick, amazing, thank you for bringing his name to the coments
John's knowledge of space and time is unbelievable. One of the greatest of this generation in my opinion.
Er Chow Kiat the music lesson reference?
joe bonamassa too !! go check out ! the 2 of there kind
Gary clark jr too check it out the 3 of there kind :)
Dear Rolling Stones, put JM on the top 100 guitarist list already...... smh old music critics....
top 5? top 3? who knows and he continues to evolve. at a certain point there's no point in saying anything more than as good as it can be - and that can be about many players. but I think he's on anyone's list at that point
I can't believe they haven't done that yet. I had it in my head that he'd be there but nope. They're doing him dirty haha
who gives a fuck about rolling stone, they are liberal assholes
*Rolling Stone, not Rolling Stones. For that magazine to acknowledge JM as a top 100 guitarist, it would have to be something more than a horribly mediocre publication, which it is most decidedly not.
I swear to god he's on there?
i love how his rhythm guitarist keeps looking at him like "Fuck yeah man keep going"
They were all just having a friggin blast. AWESOME performance.
Right on!!
Somebody fill me in, who is this guitarist, Nice!!
@@michaelspaniel5185 lol
michael spaniel Zane Carney
swear to god, if john mayer happened to be alive and playing in the 60s-70s playing the same way he does 2000-present he would have been considered a fucking god. he is just victim of this generation lmao. dude is a fuckin beast on guitar no matter what genre he decides to fuck around in.
very accurate. he is the modern clapton or hendrix
does it not make sense to you? the reason he is this good is BECAUSE of people from 60’s and 70’s.... he didn’t innovate his way to this level? enjoy the greatness for what it is.
@@andruwthompson6856 yea that’s true. He’s a modern master
Lol. John look into those legends. Even john admit it. He cant be what he become now without them.
@@daudrumapea9175 Doesn't change the fact that he can handle this style of play like a master. I don't think he's anything less than legends of the past. Every guitarist gets his inspiration from some previous guitarist i suppose, and then adds some of his personal spice to it.
I actually really like the lower vocal line here. It adds something different to the song
I think it's because of the surgery he had on his vocal chords - he's no longer able to hit some of the notes on the songs written prior to the surgery. You'll notice that his backup singers now sing the melody line of studio version of the song, while he adds a lower harmony. You're right - it's nice touch.
@@usnhotcarl YEA HE CHANGED after the surgery and literally not talking for almost a year to heal his cords he said in a interview it was a hard thing to do
Then check out his solo acoustic performance, it has this melody but he sings it better You have it on yt but also on Spotify "village sessions"
@@usnhotcarl also in the record there's a lot of autotune haha
Wrecks it
I am still watching/listening to this performance multiple times a week. It is sublime.
John Mayer is so good. the other guitarist Zane Carney, who is no slouch, can't hide the expression of how much he is digging and is impressed by the solo at the end. And then you see the white hair sound guy or whatever his job is. And he is just so impressed he can't stop himself from smiling. Well done John. Well done.
This is music. Makes you think
Zane Carney is a guitar master as well. His role playing 2nd guitar to John doesn't begin to showcase his talent. Heard him play his own instrumental at a Johnny Lang show and jaws dropped.
The vocal control of Johnny Cash and the guitar-playing chops of Jimmy Hendrix. This man is truly the musical legend of our generation.
Grande sorpresa soprattutto nro pezzi rock blues. Keep on rocking John.
Hendrix was a big innovator and the biggest legend of all legends but I must say Mayer has long surpassed the skill/chops of Jimi. Jimi wasn’t that technically advanced but luckily that’s not what it’s about in music! (Many still have to figure that out)
@@niekvanwensenwhat absolute twoddle
Stupidly underrated performance...that solo at the end is amazing
Nitin Puranik get bent will ya?
I think what he means is that he's gotten a lot of flack especially since entering dead and company being a pip star and that he's really got the goods that's all.i do understand what you are saying however.him and others are rich and famous and talented so don't feel bad for him and that's true too
The obligatory "underrated " comment that's on EVERY music video I've ever seen.
@Nitin Puranik yes!! I'm so sick of it on every video. It's become *the* meaningless cliche of KZhead.
@Nitin Puranik - Completely agree. It is mind-numbing how someone feels the need to make some pointless "Underrated" comment trying to sound intelligent. It's ad naseaum to the extreme.
One of the greatest guitar players of the 21st century. Hands down.
Could not agree more. First ballot.
Who's back here in 2021 still in awe of this unbelievable performance!? Stay safe and healthy everyone!
2024 dude !
This man's solos sing like no other. So many solos are just loud noise without direction. I honestly never understood the point until I heard him solo. His solos are full of soul and actually take you on a journey. Love it. For a real treat, listen to his cover of Jimi Hendrick's All Along the Watchtower. His solo during that song will spoil all the rest. It's downright masterful.
Lollipop Guild I absolutely cannot agree with you more,on everything...
Try Any Given Thursday - Covered In Rain for a journey. That was him when he was barely 25 years old.
Not a solo, but his guitar on Wait Until Tomorrow from the LA show is godly.
John is 1000% a master
Try Magnolia too!
This guy is the MOST listenable artist that has ever lived..... How can you ever get tired of any of his songs. even some of his weak songs grow on you eventually... uncanny!!!
I've watched this at least 1000 times. never gets old
John Belser Music same it’s literally one of his best live performances and given the fact that there is loads of live performances that is saying something.
John Belser Music I’m getting in up there. It’s been at least 80 times in the last 3 months.
Not just me then ? :)
I still can't stop watching this :)

Holy fucking shit dude. I've watched this at least 100 times, and it gives me chills every time. By far the most transformative performance of this song he's done.
best John mayer solo IMO.

Amazing singer/songwriter. One of the greatest guitarists on he planet. He writes music that compares to the great songs of the late 60's. I hope that continues in the "Born and Raised" music direction.. So refreshing to see genuine genius and talent in this era of so much mediocre music.
+puppiesinspace You are a fucking moron. I challenge you to find another artist that has reinvented the influences left by the great guitarists and singer/songwriters of yesteryear and redeveloped them to suit modern blues, rock and pop genres consistently from album to album the way Mayer has. He is a phenomenal singer/songwriter. I guess that is just incomprehensible for your small mind! How many people walk down the street and hum Nick Drake songs? Probably none, but the man was a genius nonetheless!
Not even going to debate or anything, but why are you so damn salty about this?
Not Salty. I Just cant stand people making uneducated, pig ignorant statements because their small minds can't comprehend the subject!
puppiesinspace I do
puppiesinspace I do too. He is not the best but damn he is good.
2:13 any one notice lead guitarist gets crazy feed back though the guitar and mayer is fast enough to acoustically accompany the mistake. amazing
BaptiseLeGrand not only a great blues player, but a smart pop writer.
BaptiseLeGrand You couldn't have said it any better! I just wish he could be seen by everyone for the great musician that he is.
I didn't see a mistake or Mayer do anything. He's playing with some great musicians. In time he will learn. Any one notice that lead guitar player playing ten times better than Mayer? Yes we all did.
nuendo2496 The lead guitar goes into playing the riff without changing his sound set up, you can see his reaction as the guitar starts to resonate as he steps on the peddle to save it buts too late. Mayer who hears this happening changes his pick pattern to a strumming riff to smoothly adding an extra two bars to the interlude to the next verse. props to the band to keep up.
7:25 old man behind, enjoying the feel

That bass player and drummer is no joke on this song. Their contribution to this performance really stands out, especially during JM’s solo. 🔥
Yep, the drummer is in it up to his neck 👍
Not to mention the piano solo was awesome!
The ability to play the thing that's rolling around inside your head, the way he does, is simply spellbinding.
this must be the auditory definition of nailed it
This is one of his best-that solo is off the charts! As many times as I've watched it; I never want it to end!
Damn! This video drives me nuts! He is the best since Jimmy Hendrix and he has a voice!
john mayer has been one of those few artists you can really appreciate how far along and wide his career has been he's spent plenty of time in that real blues american roots and tradition, all the way up there with pop radio in the 00s and landing somewhere in between since then its great. this song really captures that
Damnit....he is a master guitarist!!!!!
I want somebody who looks at me the same way Zayne looks at John.
Asi Kla, hold on to that someone and never let go, lol
I hope to God that John brings back the old band soon
Pino and steve!
Johns been posting clips on Instagram of him, Pino and Steve in the studio recently
Nothing like a Fender Stratocaster plus. Beautiful gritty lace sensor pickups with the mid control. Highly underrated guitars and pickups. John has always chosen gear that has a distinct tone and this guitar just kills on this jam.
I’m seeing JM in 22 at the Boston Garden.. I hope he’s as wonderful as this ☮️ & 💕
Never take this down. This clip is like a religion to me at this point.
Same
What an awesome performance; what a tight band! Bass player is layin' down a groove mile wide and the drummer hammers it home. John's performance is stunning, especially the flailing fingerwork at the end with the pull-offs...he's turned into a major axe man. This is some of his best work ever.
I have basically no idea what you just said, but I’m quite a fan of this. 😅
This performance gives me Clapton vibes.
