  • The time skip definitely confused me a bit as a non-book reader as in the back of my mind, knowing Jessica was pregnant, it means all of this went down within a 9-10 month timeframe which could seem a bit too short for all of this to go down and have enough weight behind it. Paul learning things fast is fine but for us believe the love between Paul and Chani is strong enough as well as Paul’s status as the messiah taking hold this fast can seem a bit unlikely

  • Stillgar is funny in the beginning due to his believes but in the end you see that his character is a tragic one

  • Too many people misunderstood the book, so we do need someone to oppose Paul so the true message of the book, as described by Frank Herbert himself, would be clearer. And out of all the main characters, Chani makes the most sense to do it. I don't know how they can adapt all of Messiah in Part III with this change though. It will take some time for Chani to come around to play the role she needs to play, and it does sound like they intend her to play the same role (Paul said to his mom that he saw Chani would understand eventually).

    • You haven't even opened the fucking book, you are just repeating what other clowns on the internet told you. "Cautionary tale" my ass, Dune is a lot, LOT more than just a warning about false prophets. But hey, gotta defend the new garbage, am I right?

  • The way Dune Part 2 portrayed Chani was an insult. In the books Chani was a fierce warrior, priestess, and the rock that kept Paul grounded. Chani was his confidant, the person he told everything to, the only way Paul was able to experience any emotion was through her. In this movie she is portrayed as a week short sighted fool, not the strong survivor of the desert.

  • Together these 2 films form an admirably, faithful adaptation, which is easily the best yet, but not a perfect one. My biggest criticism is that the story, especially in Part 2, felt rushed compared to the book. I think Dune deserves 3 films, to allow the inclusion of key scenes and properly portray the passage of time. Part 1 was 2hrs 35mins, while Part 2 was 2hrs 45mins, giving a total run time of 5hr 20mins. There was definitely enough source material to make 3 x ~2hrs movies (~6hrs total).

    • Yeah, I get what you mean. For me the problem is with a 3 part splitting is that the middle movie would just be significantly less eventful compared to the other two, which could kill the momentum and the hype for the 3rd one. But maybe we can try it out the next time when we remake it 30 years from now 😆

    • @@Kotiha_Studio If the first film culminates with the Battle of Arrakeen, then there's actually plenty of action to include in the second film. For example: (1) The aftermath of the attack as the remaining Atreides try to find the Fremen while evading Sardaukar in the desert. (This is covered in the book.) (2) Paul's duel with Jamis, but enroute to Sietch Tabr and under shelter of rocks, as in the book. (3) The ongoing Feydakin attacks sabotaging Harkonnen spice mining operations. (4) The plotting between the Baron and Feyd Harkonnen, which was omitted from the film. (5) The infiltration of the Fremen by the Sardaukar and their attempted assassination of Paul, which was also omitted from the film. (6) The eventual destruction of Sietch Tabr, in which Paul and Chani lose their firstborn, portrayed as a climatic battle, would serve as a stinging defeat and a "downer" ending for the second film. The gaps between the films lend themselves to time jumps, so the second film could cover the period between the fall of House Atreides (on Arrakis) and the rise of Paul Maud'dib, several years later. The novel is actually comprised of 3 (not 2) separate books: Dune, Maud'dib and The Prophet, each of which could be adapted into a film, with some events moved around as required, to achieve the desired pacing while ensuring there's enough action. (This was the approach taken by the 2000 TV mini-series adaptation, which had 3 episodes, each named after one of the 3 books in the novel.)

  • Wait, Stilgar the comic relief? Are you seeing this through a post-cinema, internet meme lens? Because in the theater his character was so good that we knew he was serious in how he felt, and his meme worthy "Lisan Al-Gaib" reaction happened during epic moments in the film. The true comic relief has been Gurney Halleck from the first movie, and especially part 2.

  • I’m ok if they left out Alia, Thufir etc. But what they should have filmed was the folding of space of the Heighliners. No need for the appearance of the third-stage navigator, but the folding of space itself is as important to the spice and Arrakis. That is a major point why space travel even exist without AI/ machine computing.

    • This exactly they have failed twice now to portray the navigators, they shouldve had a creepy cameo of guild in flight or redone the scene of navigator speaking to emperor. 7/10

  • I thought Chani should have came around by the end of the film as it just seems immature of her to hate on Paul when she saw everything go down and witnessed that he in fact is the one and all the prophecy stuff isn’t just a story anymore.

    @shaunbang@shaunbangАй бұрын
    • I wouldn’t say it was immarure. She knows the prophecy is just made up to use and manipuate her people, even if it seems like some of the events actually played out the way it was said in it. And now Paul takes them off-planet, into a long and bloody war that has basically nothing to do with the Fremen and restoring Arrakis anymore.

    • I get what you mean. Personally I can pass that as 'artistic liberty', it's the same problem as why main characters rarely wear helmets in battles, because they would just blend in the crowd and it would be really confusing to the audiance to follow the action and recognize who is who. But yes, sometimes it can break the immersion.

      @Kotiha_Studio@Kotiha_StudioАй бұрын
    • @@Kotiha_Studio That's not why they do it and I don't consider it acceptable in fights either. It's not artistic -it's purely commercial. All about brand recognition. They're not worried we'll get the characters confused, just that we'll fail to recognise the *actors*.

    • Well the title says books, and even during the video I mentioned some stuff that will be explored only in later movies down the line, so it’s not really that unexpected, but I’m sorry if I ruined something for you, I will be more clear in future videos. I didn’t think it was a big deal, because one, the movies are already toning down the craziness, so I’m not really expecting anything like this adapted in the later ones, and two, the story itself is structured in a way that it’s not really spoiler or shock value dependent. If I’m remembering correctly, even the books themselves spoil stuff sometimes, like how we first learn about Leto’s death in the notes of Irulan, before it even happens in the story. I’m not sure about that tho, so feel free to correct me. Also, I haven’t read that far either, but I don’t think that’s really what happens, I just saw something similar mentioned in a meme and was like ‘Haha funny Rick&Morty joke go brrr’

  • I can tell from the scale along with Denis Villeneuve's craftsmanship that they needed 3 film to cover the whole book. That may sound like a great idea, but actually ridiculous and not possible. 3 film to cover 1 book with 3 years to make each of them. At this pace, Denis Villeneuve would be just around 100yo when he finishes the entire saga, and this doesn't even include actors aging. Even though I don't know if he is determined to finish the entire series, it's still not a good idea to adapt into 3 films.

    @eprjct@eprjctАй бұрын
    • This was the first book done, the third movie will be about the second book already. :D Not sure if he wants to keep going, as the interest and love for the later books gradually declines from here on. My guess would be that after the next movie they will move away from the book’s canon more, and try to do some spin-off series with different characters and actors.
