idk if somebody already explained but hey ! placenta only develops if a baby is conceived . the period and the bleeding comes from the shedding of the inner lining of the uterus , which thickens in preparation to receive a fertilized egg , and so if the mature egg doesn't get fertilized , the uterus shed that extra layer and go back to its original thickness , the cycle repeats as the egg matures

Okay y'all, the endometrium, or uterian lining, which was formed to provide a sort of bed to the embryo, sheds when the egg, which was in the fallopian tubes, is not fertilized. The hormones shift, and the cervix and uterus contract to rip the endometrium up and dispose of it. And then when not on your period, the egg is releasing from the ovaries and going to the fallopian tube to wait to be fertilized, and the endometrium is building itself up again out of tissue and blood and stuff. THE PLACENTA COMES FROM A FERTILIZED EGG, AND FORMS AFTER CONCEPTION. 😭
