In the 90s, a co-worker friend of mine and I were doing some work in Tracy, Ca and decided to travel to Reno, NV for the weekend. I had never been to a casino before but he told me to just double your bet each time you lose when playing roulette. Well, I ended up losing hundreds and so did he. To save money, we slept a few hours in the rental car in some parking lot. The next morning, very early, we walk back in to that casino determined to get our money back and this song was playing as background music. I'll never forget it, and no, we didn't get our money back. We were losers baby.

@@koda4247 you can at least formulate a creative personal story relating to the lyrics with RHCP, this shit is all over the place. Great, but makes absolutely no sense and the singer even said he hates this song because it was supposed to be a b.s. thing that's actually his most acknowledged piece he's ever made. Meaning he accidently did something awesome but can't when he's taking the music seriously and trying to express himself. At absolute most depth, the meaning behind this song is the random words are expressing the worthless loser idea." Nothin matters, f*** it, burn down the trailer park and shave your face with some mace in the dark. I'm depressed and nothing matters." That's pretty much it.
@wesleybastien5968 Жыл бұрын
@@wesleybastien5968 I mean you can relate to that feeling, and the feeling is that the world doesn't make sense, to it comes back full circle and *does* have meaning. Also, it has a *tons* of hidden meanings and metaphors. Beck is a genius, and geniuses tend to put down their most popular work like, all the time. It's hard to face the realization than the easiest thing you made is the most popular, and perhaps the best as well. "Ban all the music with the phony gas chamber Cause one's got a weasel, and the other's got a flag One's on the pole, shove the other in a bag" That's a formidable metaphor for the music industry if you take 2 seconds to really think about it. Also that's again his opinion, the idea that Beck "can't come close" to doing something amazing when he's taking himself seriously is insane, he had one of the greatest career ever lmao that is grotesque self-deprecation or your interpretation of it there is. I think that he wrote it when he *felt* like a loser, which is why he feels that this is not a good song, but it's a great song, because it conveys the feeling perfectly.

I listened to Beck in 1994. I was 20 years old. I was amazed by his music, even though I belong to an Arab country, Morocco. He speaks Arabic, French, and English. I have little respect for this person. His music goes beyond his history by light years.
I think you meant to say you have respect for him. Because saying you have little respect for him is kind of insulting.
well here we are again It's 3 am on a Sunday and I'm on my nightly 90s alt rock binge sigh
there's a hell of a lot worse music out there

day 19 for me - came here too :)
Things are goona change I can feel it.
I’ve listened to this for literally 30 years and I’m still not tired of it.
Totally agree, timeless tune from my teenage years...🤙
Suicide is the leading cause of death among GenX; Beck was up to something. Shoutout to everyone in a hard place, keep fighting.
No not even you missed the point.
Everyone gloats about being a 90's kid. You're not a fucking 90's kid if you don't know who Beck is. This song defined the 90's.
so you're supposed to be aware of songs that got popular when you were a literal baby or about to be born? Whoops sorry call the 90's police I didn't know who he was because I wasn't fucking born yet but that doesn't mean I'm not a 90's kid magically.
HystericSky if you brag about being a nineties baby but where a baby or too little to remember anything from the nineties, than no your not a nineties baby. Wait ten years when everyone becomes nostalgic of the 2000s and claim that decade.
alot of people confuse being a 90's baby for being a 90's kid. I was born in 88. I was what one can consider a 90's kid
Don't forget Oasis, Blur, Pulp all them too
I was born in 87 and never heard of this song or this guy
I remember losing my job moving back in with my parents, popped on the TV and this was the first thing I watched.... I felt so inspired......
Things are gunna get better. I can feel it.
nice
Insightful and maybe prophetic ?,🤔
the song wasn’t meant to be deep but to be fun ramblings how do you feel now
People I'm sure he's got over that by now this was years ago because he's talking about TV!
When you're happy, you feel the song 😃 When you're sad, you feel the lyrics 😢
Oh, how original.
This video deserves millions of likes. Is a milestone in Rock N´Roll. Fantastic. Top of the tops: indie, punk, sludge. That opening guitar riff is immortal , rebel lyrics, anarchist.
When he said "get crazy with the cheese whizz", I felt that.
@Shawn Bdfbnbbbnj Me too. Odd.

I love how back in 1993 beck was 23 singing with the voice of a 45 year old

Alina Khan Is he still alive?
Georgi Vanev yes and still making music at that, he literally just dropped a new single last week! he’s 49 now and his voice has not changed much
Alina Khan Nice, im gonna check it right now
Doesn't sound like a 45 year old at all. Maybe 30 max.

Hmmmm are you 40 or 37? edit: ahhh nevermind depends when you saw it first
Pretty similar, I was 14 and now I'm 41. Beck has aged well.
@@wizardmix I'm 12 lol. This song isn't even bad.
@@imjustbetterthanyou9477 You have the benefit of time travel my friend. When I saw this being nearly the age you are now, that's all there was. You have quite an amazing discography to sift through and most of it is excellent right up to present day -- though a lot of it borrows from earlier masters (but don't we all). Seems like you're into 90s music videos. So what are the favorites you've discovered so far?
"Slacker my ass. I mean, I never had any slack. I was working a $4-an-hour job trying to stay alive. That slacker stuff is for people who have the time to be depressed about everything." -Beck
Ahhh, yes, the $4-something/hour jobs... I remember those all too well. Sadly, we haven't progressed much in society, have we... :/
Baaaaaahahahaha!!! I started out working at $3.35/hr... When I made it to 4 bucks I thought I was on top of the world... Look how far we've come since back in the day... Never slack and keep dreaming big ❤❤❤
I started out at 1.60 an hour. But gas was 28 cents a gallon, and you could buy 5 gallons of gas for one hours pay. Today, one hour of working at minimum wage gets you only about two gallons or less or gas.
How has no slack helped you in life?
Rita Dougherty we havent come far.. the minimum wage is still shitty. In fact it might be worse because the value of the dollar keeps going down while cost of living is more expensive than it’s literally ever been... Boomers...clueless
All these years later and I'm still getting crazy with the cheez wiz.
And the termites, who are choking on the splinters

Oh 90s.... Nostalgia is killing me
Insanely brilliant.
You walked into a casino thinking they were going to give you the money you lost gambling? You understand what gambling is right?

I put “Soy un perdedor” as my yearbook quote because this song was my anthem during high school. After so many years, I’m surprised that I’m not feeling like a loser anymore. Glad I didn’t peak in high school lol
That's cool shhht right there. We might have graduated close to the same year. Right out of high school, I married the girl voted in the year book "Most likely to become a super model". (This was the early '90s, CIndy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymore true supermodels) Note: I'm a dweeby guy, just happened to be in the right place at the right time with the right set of skills in the moment.
Mid-80s = pretty much the same.

@@koda4247 they do have lyrics that make sense
„And my time is a piece of wax falling on a termite That's choking on the splinters“ This is pure poetry! Only to be followed shortly by: „(Get crazy with the cheeze whiz)“ How much better can it get?
Spreken ze Deutches baby?
