  • I first heard this music when I was 14 years old (this was in 1985 on the 3rd programme of Polish radio), and it is still amazing, magic. Today I'm almost 53 and I still love Marillion.👍😊

  • Why why why is this band not more popular? They are incredible! Misplaced Childhood is an absolute masterpiece!!!!!

    • Possibly because their original singer (Fish) left just as they were getting popular in the US. They did two tours with Rush (Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows) in the US as the opening act, and it got them lots of exposure. MC was huge in Britain.

    • @@christopherharmon2433 Marillion was indeed plagued by the same sort of split that hit a lot of bands at the peak of their success. Loosing their lead singer lost my interest in the future Hogarth edition of the band. Maybe one day I'll try some of those "Fish season end" albums. ;-)

  • Fish’s poetry and vocal emotion are truly breathtaking but he’s just not there without the band. These guys were truly an amazing collection of talent that relied so heavily on the other and made them perhaps the greatest musical storytellers of our time. Like when I’m listening to Rush, I might start the song drumming, then singing, then air guitaring and even a bit of air keyboarding. Every element of this band is just as essential as the next. It took me a bit to warm up to Hogarth but I have to say I do like Marillion now as well. They’re a totally different band with a totally different experience but it feels like they just started a new relationship after being stuck in a very abusive one. I tried Fish without Marillion but there was so much missing.

    @scdrescher1@scdrescher1 Жыл бұрын
    • Sorry but Marillion without Fish are middle of the road, ordinary. There is no passion, no soul in their music. Plenty of people like it so well done to them but for me the worst of Fish post Marillion is way better than the best of Marillion post Fish. Vigil, Weltschmerz, Raingods with Zippos and Internal Exile are up there with the four Marillion / Fish studio albums. Nothing Marillion have made since comes close.

  • To listen to Marillion is to abolish the surge of everyday noises and images to half-open the space of an elsewhere where contingency and representation give way to the immateriality of the sensitive. The expressive power of the sound architecture breaks with any form of transcription of reality to attach itself to the expression of a fabulous universe where the color and the hythm of the compositions constitute an expiration which gives voice to the exaltation

  • I'd never heard of them until I was sat on a bar stool many years ago and my guitarist said "that's fish". I still had to have it explained to me and an hour or so later he asked to sit in with us for a couple of numbers. Next night the same thing. I cannot recall which night it was , but it is documented on the rear sleeve of one of their albums where he explained taking a swim and slicing his foot open in the river and a story about a Moroccan waiter. Good days, really nice guy, the business takes the odd prisoner though as shown by the lead singer of Uriah Heep that lived the other side of the river and used to watch us play in an hotel there at the same time.. If you're reading Fish, it was Skindles Taplow to be precise although everyone considered it Maidenhead and you were the last big name singer to play there following in the footsteps of The Stones, AC/DC, The Stranglers, The Strawbs to name a few

  • The totally missed this band in the 80s, now I have the pleasure of listening, only the first 4 albums. I thought dires Straits was good, but listening to lyrics and the band, I think these guys are no1 for me. They perform like the studio at concerts, very few bands can. Dire Straits mix and performance at concerts was terrible apart from the Hammersmith one which was OK.
